Administration Report
Welcome back to school! I hope you enjoyed time with your families during the Thanksgiving break. December is a busy time for learning at OCEAA. We also have two important parent involvement activities this month that you should be aware of: Parent School Climate Survey We are conducting a parent survey to help us continue developing long and short term plans for OCEAA. Please take time to complete the survey online. Our goal is 100% participation and your support is greatly appreciated! If you do not have internet access at home, Mr. Felix will be available on December 9th and 16th from 8:00am-8:45am and 2:00pm-2:30pm to help you in the computer lab. We also have a limited number of paper copies available in the office of the main building. Please return completed paper copies of the survey to the main office receptionist, Ms. Rosalinda Vargas. School Site Council Orientation meetings were held on Monday, December 7th, and the next step is voting. Please return your ballot to the BALLOT BOX in the front office (Main campus or Annex) by December 16th, 2015. The results will be tallied on December 17th. Thank you for all the support you provide our school community! Your involvement is very important to OCEAA’s future success. ~ Kristin Collins - Director

Parent School Climate Survey, 2015-2016 The purpose of this survey is to obtain parent perceptions of student behavior and attitudes, school programs and policies, and the overall school climate as they relate to student well-being and learning. It deals with such issues as truancy, safety, harassment, substance use, school connectedness, and learning supports. The survey is a companion to the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), and the California School Climate Survey (CSCS) for staff. Instructions for Accessing the Survey 1. If you have more than one child at this school, please complete one survey for each child. 2. Access the login page for the survey using the following URL: URL: http://surveys.wested.org/csps/YD933DG?lang=en 3. Use the following school code and click the Take Survey button: School Code (case sensitive): GQ93MA 4. If you do not have internet access at home, Mr. Felix will be available on December 9th and 16th from 8:00am - 8:45am and 2:00pm - 2:30pm to help you in the computer lab.
California Healthy Kids Survey
Students in 5th-8th grades are being asked to be a part of our school’s California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), sponsored by the California Department of Education. This is a very important survey that will help promote better health and well-being among our youth, improve the school learning environment, and combat problems such as drug abuse and violence. Your child does not have to take the survey. Participation is voluntary and requires your permission.
Survey Content: The survey gathers information on developmental supports provided to youth; school connectedness and barriers to learning, as well as behaviors such as physical activity and nutritional habits; alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; and school safety.
You may examine the questionnaire in the school office, on our website or click the links below:

Facilities Update
Construction at the TK/Kindergarten Annex is nearly complete. You may have noticed the new purple shade canopy that has recently been placed in the playground. The canopy was the last item needed to receive the final Occupancy Permit from the City of Santa Ana, which had already been approved.
OCEAA will build a new play structure and pour rubber on the black top around the structure to keep our little ORCAS safe. The new play structure is scheduled to go up during Winter Break.
We are looking forward to seeing all our TK and Kinder students enjoying their completed playground when we come back in January!
What a fantastic Fall Festival! Princesses, pirates, dinosaurs and dancing skeletons - just a few of the truly amazing array of costumes we saw attend our 11th Annual Fall Festival on Friday October 30th. Everyone came to eat, play, dance and have fun, and everyone did just that! Congratulations to all the winners of the games, the Costume Parade and the Cake Walk and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible. A special thank you to Chef Sean & his staff who, as usual, prepared a delicious dinner and to the FSO Leadership Team who organized the event.
Events like these cannot be done
without a massive effort so to
everyone who donated to the
Cake Walk, worked a booth, set
up before the event, cleaned up
after the event, helped with a
costume or did any one of the
thousand other things needed
the make a successful Fall
Festival - we thank you!

Arts Update
Students are busy studying art in their art classes. They are dancing/singing/painting and acting. We are so glad to provide our students with this time to be creative. Our goal is to have them continue to grow in the arts becoming creative and critical thinkers. You can see examples of student artwork around the school or ask your child what they are working on in their music class and they may sing you a song!
Our Rhythms of the World show was a success!
We had a great turn out and students from Kinder, 1st,
6th, 7th and 8th performed. It was a spectacular night of
music and dance. Our students are true performers and we
are so proud. Thank you to all teachers, staff and
volunteers who helped to make this event possible. All
proceeds will benefit the 6th grade Outdoor Science School
field trip. Way to go OCEAA!
DVDs of the show are available for order in the Front Office
and pictures are available for viewing and purchase online

Rhythms of the World
Students were invited to showcase their artwork at Main
Place Mall in Orange as a part of their Día de los
Muertos/Halloween event. It was a great opportunity to
share our student work with the community.
Thank you to one of our wonderful community
supporters Yenny Bernal, for assisting us with this event!

We are so grateful to our friends at Starbucks for allowing OCEAA to showcase our amazing student art every month during Downtown Santa Ana's First Saturday Art Walk. Please stop by to view the art and let Starbucks know you appreciate their support.
OCEAA Student Art Exhibit at Starbucks ~ 1st Saturday Art Walk
Students created artwork and made an altar that was dedicated to our Artist of the Year, Pablo Picasso. It was a beautiful community event, and quite exciting during the evening when the entire crowd stopped to watch the mysterious light in the sky - later to be revealed as a Navy missile test! Were you there? Did you see it?
Thank you to all of our student artists and volunteers and who took part! We could not participate in any of these wonderful community events without your support. If
you would like to participate in future community art events, please contact our Arts Coordinator Mrs. Erica Vicario:[email protected].

Arts Update continued...
Attention all art minded parents!
We are in need of a volunteer to help coordinate our monthly
Starbucks exhibit - it's the fun part too!
Our teachers and Arts Coordinator Mrs. Erica Vicario will
gather all the artwork every month and we need YOU to get it
to and from Starbucks...and of
course the fun part, set up the
display! Generally we will have
some of the artists' parents
helping every month as well
so the job is not too big.
Set-up is very flexible - it can
be done 1-2 days before and
art can usually be left up for
the week or so after.
This monthly Starbucks Art Exhibit during Downtown Santa Ana's
1st Saturday Art Walk is a wonderful opportunity for our community to see what OCEAA is all
about and also for our students to get a taste of what it's like to have their art on public exhibit -
to be an actual 'exhibiting artist'.
We don't want to lose this
opportunity but the only way we
can continue to do it is with help -
we need your help!
Please contact Mrs. Erica Vicario;
[email protected] if you would like to help or if you have any questions.

We are still in need of
computer savvy English reading/
writing help in the Library to
in-put books on the computer. If
this is something you would like
