Student ServicesSchool Health staff continue to be a vital support to the Caroline County Health Department vaccination clinics on non-student days. Their contributions to CCPS and the local COVID response is allowing Caroline County to readily vaccinate residents.
The CCPS Community Equity Committee met February 9th with over 40 participants. Middle and High School members of Student Voice joined the discussion to share their perspectives of education in a virtual environment.
High School athletics started the Fall season on February 13. First competitions begin on March 5.
High School and 8th grade counselors are working through student schedule requests for the 2021-2022 school year. They have adapted well to the challenges of a virtual environment while working to meet the needs of students and families.
Secondary band and choral students participated in a workshop entitled “The Journey of African American Song,” led by Salisbury University professor Dr. James Wesley Wright. The workshop explored the influence of African American spirituals through a cultural, social and historical lens.
● Advancing as Culturally Responsive Educators - Two training sessions completed. Staff is the importance of personal perspective and learning more about the cultural perspectives of others.
Special Programs
Our Early Intervention Specialists using new dolls with joint articulations
to help coach parents in-person or virtual services.
Family Support Service partnered with several supporting agencies to put together Virtual Parent Training Modules on
various topics.
A training series for special education teacher with tips for providing Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) in the virtual,
in-person, and hybrid models.
EL teachers collaborated with health and science teachers to provide professional development that focused on best
practices for our multilingual students.
Food Services● All cafeterias are covered for in school and virtual learning.
■ Shore Gourmet was awarded Innovation Award for 2020 by the Caroline Chamber of Commerce. This was for adapting to the pandemic by meeting the needs of the community with ready-made meals. Meals are made with as much locally sourced produce as possible, and distributed using a curbside pick up model.
● Food Service Supervisor presented on the George Washington University panel on Obesity in Children and the work done to provide Caroline children with healthier options during lunchtime.
● Currently working with 4H on a farm-to-school education grant.
● Virtual learner parents may pick up meals for the week from the school near to them. We are delivering approximately 800 backpacks and 4000 dinners on Wednesday to our highest need students.
Mid Shore Community Foundation awarded a COVID relief grant to help cover the expenses not reimbursed by the Federal government. This allows us to continue to provide healthy frozen meals and fresh fruit and vegetables to students.
