ARRIVE
ON
TIME
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO KEEP STUDENTS SAFE AT
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL The safety of our students is our top priority. Arrival and dismissal are
busy times at our school. We need to work together with parents/
guardians and childcare providers to make sure students are safe.
Here are key points to be aware of when planning pick up and/or drop off
of students:
Supervision starts fifteen (15) minutes before bell time and ends
fifteen (15) minutes after bell time. School staff will contact the
parent/guardian, followed by emergency contact, for any student who is
not picked up within this time. If late pickup happens often, additional
support services may be involved.
If parents/guardians arrange for other people to pick up their children,
like a private childcare provider, the parent/guardian is responsible to
ensure the alternate person/program is picking up on time.
Designated bus loading zones are out-of-bounds during arrival and
dismissal times, with the only exception being Simcoe County Student
Transportation Consortium buses. Private childcare providers will be
asked not to use these areas. Parents are also not allowed to drop off or
pick up in the bus zones.
Once buses have departed and the loading zone has been opened up
by school staff, vehicle traffic may begin to flow through the area to pick
students up. Traffic must be in constant flow in this area at all times,
meaning no unattended parked vehicles in this area.
Unattended vehicles must be parked in an approved parking space,
outside of the kiss and ride area, with the engine turned
off.
A full description of the Supervision, Arrival and
Dismissal Procedures is available at www.scdsb.on.ca –
Parents – Safe and Healthy Schools – Procedures.
SOME GENTLE REMINDERS……….. ARRIVE ON TIME/ABSENCES
It is very important to your child’s learning experiences and achievement that he/she arrives at school on
time. This means lining up with their class when the bell goes. All students are expected to be at school prior
to the first warning bell at 8:53am, the final bell rings at 8:55am. Please ensure a call is made to our
Safe Arrival line 705-445-0811 ext. 1 when your child will be absent, including a reason for absence.
Try to schedule appointments during one of our two breaks or before/after school.
Should parents/visitors need to enter the school, they MUST sign in at the
office. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
School News
PEANUT/NUT FREE SCHOOL We have students in our school this year with a severe allergy to peanuts and nuts. In order to reduce the
risk of accidental exposure, we respectfully ask that families cooperate by not sending peanut or
nut-containing products to school. Students who bring products with peanuts/nuts in them will be asked to not
eat these products or will eat in a designated spot, which will be properly cleaned after eating. All parents
should remember this when sending in food for class celebrations. WE ARE STRIVING TO BECOME
PEANUT/NUT FREE! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the office. Your
co-operation and understanding of this matter is greatly appreciated.
SUB AND PIZZA DAYS Orders for Sub’s (Tuesday’s) and Pizza (Thursday’s) will be sent home
and posted on-line through our web page and emailed. You can also
pick up a paper copy at the school office. Orders must be received by
the dead line, no exceptions. Extra’s will not be sold on the day of and
must be pre-ordered. Visit our web page at adm.scdsb.on.ca
SAFE ARRIVAL - FOR ATTENDANCE
When you child is going to be absent or late you MUST call the school’s SAFE ARRIVAL line 705-445-0811
ext 1. This must be done even if you’ve given the teacher a note regarding the absence, so the office is
aware of the absence. There could be a supply teacher in, not knowing of a previous note. **If you have
opted out of receiving Safe Arrival calls from the office please disregard the above.
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE 2016-2017 Student injuries at school, during school events, and extra-curricular activities (athletics, clubs, and out-of-
province/out-of-country trips) are not covered by the Board or its insurance company. While every precaution
is taken to provide a safe learning environment, accidents can and do happen. It is essential that all students
participating in extra-curricular activities have adequate insurance coverage for all instances of injury. The
Simcoe County District School Board has selected the “insure my kids” program through Old Republic
Canada as an option for students/parents/guardians to consider with regards to purchasing student accident
insurance coverage for the upcoming school year. The coverage is for 24 hours a day. This insurance offers
a variety of plans and benefits at reasonable annual prices. Coverage can be purchased online at
www.insuremykids.com. Please watch for your student accident insurance package along with a letter about
requirements for extra-curricular activities and out-of-province or out-of-country trips.
SCHOOL BUSES ARE JUST FOR TO/FROM HOME This is a gentle reminder that students are not permitted to use the school buses in the same way as town buses, e.g. getting off at another stop for social events, appointments, club meetings, etc… For the safety of students, the SCSTC will arrange for alternate address transportation under the following conditions: A parent/guardian must apply for use of an alternate address on an annual basis through their student’s
school. The student’s primary address is eligible for transportation. (See SCSTC policy TE01 for definition of
primary address and eligibility). The proposed alternate address is also eligible for transportation – to the same school, within the same
school boundary. The alternate address must be accommodated with an existing bus stop on an existing bus route
servicing the school. No new stops or routes will be created for alternate addresses. A student can have only one alternate address. For further information please visit simcoecountyschoolbus.ca →Policies → Transportation Eligibility → TE10.pdf
BUS CANCELLATION INFORMATION IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER Winter is just around the corner in Simcoe County, and with it
comes the possibility of severe weather, challenging winter
driving conditions and, as a result, possible bus and school
event cancellations.
All information regarding cancelled buses in Simcoe County is
posted on the Simcoe County Student Transportation
Consortium’s bus information website at
www.simcoecountyschoolbus.ca. Our school is in the
WEST ZONE. When buses are cancelled, please remember that schools are still open (unless otherwise
noted) for student learning.
The Consortium, in conjunction with bus operators, will make the decision to cancel school buses before 6
a.m. and as such, will make every effort to post announcements between 6 and 7 a.m. Parents should also
note that inclement weather cancellations are effective for the whole day and buses cancelled in the morning
will not run at the end of the day.
You can also subscribe to receive bus delay notifications here: https://scstc.ca/Subscriptions and you can
follow the Consortium on Twitter @SCSTC_SchoolBus.

PAY FOR FIELD TRIPS, LUNCH DAYS ETC. ON-LINE
The SchoolCash Online program is available at our school, offering parents the option to
pay online for lunch days (pizza only) and other items. Parents who sign up will receive a
notification when a new item becomes available for purchase. Items are personalized to
each student. Parents use a secure online account to process payments, and can either
make a one-time payment for each item as it occurs, or load money to carry a balance in
the online account to make payments in the future. To create an online account, go to
simcoecounty.schoolcashonline.com. Please contact the school office with any questions.
MOBILITY PARKING
PICTURE RE-TAKE DAY Retakes are Friday, November 4th. More information will be sent home closer to the date. Students are reminded to NOT WEAR GREEN for picture day as it blends in with the green screen background.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL Students are not to bring medications (prescription or over the counter) to school
unless there is a plan for administering the medication. A Student Medical Form
must be filled out by the parent and a family doctor. All medications must be
stored in the office unless a consultation with the Principal and Parent/Guardian
has determined that the medication may be retained in the possession of a
student (i.e.. Asthma inhalers, Epi-Pens). The Principal may administer
prescription medication upon written request of Parents/Guardians and without a
completed Student Medical Form, for a maximum of two weeks. Please do not
send over the counter medications with your child such as Tylenol or Advil. These
are medications and can seriously harm another child if not stored according to
SCDSB procedures. If your child requires these on a regular basis, a Student Medical Form needs to be filled
out and signed by your family doctor. Thank you for your consideration regarding medications.
Just a reminder to our parents that only those with a permit can use the handicapped parking areas in our parking lot.
NO DOGS ALLOWED Although we love our furry four legged friends, our community is reminded that dogs are not allowed on school property at any time. Students have slipped in “dog droppings” and have had to call parents for new clothes. This poses a health risk to our students and an inconvenience to our families when they have had to leave work to bring new clothes and our students lose valuable instructional time.
