The ADP BeliefEstablished in 1997, Admiralty Primary

School has gone from strength to strength to provide our pupils with a quality

education centred on developing their potential to the fullest and enabling them to succeed in an unpredictable future. Leveraging on the capabilities of information and communication technology, we have transformed the way teaching and learning is conducted through the use of digital mediums to provide deep learning opportunities. There are many school-based programmes that encourage value-based learning to provide a holistic education beyond the academic subjects.

Admiralty Primary School has received many awards in our short history, including the Outstanding Development Award (National Education) and the Development Award (Character Development). In recognition of our excellent national education efforts, the school was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew National Education Award.

English Language Fiesta and Mother Tongue Language Fortnight

Achieving Academic Excellence

English Language Fiesta

The English Language (EL) Fiesta is a week-long celebration of the language in Admiralty Primary School. Activities during the EL Fiesta are conducted via meaningful

platforms that underscore the importance of having good language proficiency. Our pupils take centre stage during break periods to participate in language-based games, quizzes, and even perform poetry recitals for their peers.

In alignment with the Speak Good English Movement, our pupils are consistently reminded to speak and write in Standard English to be universally understood. This refines their ability to express themselves coherently, as well as boost their confidence and mastery in using the English Language.

Mother Tongue Language Fortnight

The Mother Tongue Language (MTL) Fortnight is a funded MOE initiative to develop an appreciation for a rich Mother Tongue culture within our pupils. Our

pupils participate in craft activities such as making hongbao decorations for Chinese New Year and kites for the Qing Ming Festival. Assembly programmes conducted during festivals like Hari Raya and Deepavali also bring across the significance of the respective celebrations, accentuating the importance of multiracial harmony in Singapore.

A quality academic experience is key for our pupils. With the inherent belief that all children can succeed, Admiralty Primary School caters to a diverse range of learning needs through our instructional programmes that are anchored in habits of thinking and learning. In addition, inculcating a spirit of lifelong and self-directed learning is crucial to prepare our pupils for the world beyond our school.

Math and Science Carnival

iPad ClassesOne unique feature of Admiralty Primary

School is our iPad classes. Since 2014, nearly half of our Primary 3 and 4 pupils

bring their personal iPad to school to augment teaching and learning.

In line with MOE’s 21st century competencies, self-directed learning is emphasized daily in the iPad classes. The pupils expand their knowledge beyond what they already know and explore a variety of possibilities in presenting their work. Through online platforms, teachers monitor the pupils’ work and progress, as well as provide timely feedback and comments.

Collaborative work is also made easier with the iPads. The pupils work together on digital platforms to create their own video clips and share photo-stories about their learning. As a result, the pupils are more deeply engaged and show a keener interest in daily lessons.

Our annual Math and Science Carnival provides a platform to promote experiential learning and deeply engage our pupils in authentic real-life applications

of the subjects. The Carnival is a much anticipated event for our pupils where they learn about exciting concepts beyond the curriculum presented by their peers who invest months

of research and preparation. External organisations are also invited to set up exhibits for further learning, ranging from energy conservation to the flora and fauna native to Singapore. Collectively, these activities promote self-directed exploration in the areas of Math and Science, and enrich our pupils’ awareness of how they are applied in the world.

Environmental Education Talent DevelopmentOur Environmental Education (EE) instils a deeper

appreciation and awareness of the environment in our pupils. This is achieved through the structured

infusion of EE into the school curriculum. Through carefully scaffolded sessions, the skills and knowledge acquired are translated into actions through various environmental projects and outreach programmes such as our weekly recycling campaign. Our Green ambassadors also carry out recess activities such as recycling crafts and quizzes to share recycling tips and environmental values with their peers.

In alignment with our eco-friendly stance, Admiralty Primary School is one of the 10 primary and secondary schools that has a food waste digester acquired through our collaboration with the North-West CDC to convert food waste into useful biofertilizers. These efforts aim to shape our pupils’ attitude towards caring for the environment by developing green habits and transforming it into a school-wide culture.

For our higher performing pupils, we value-add to their learning by challenging them to stretch themselves beyond the national curriculum content. These components are integrated within the daily

curriculum. For English, our pupils are exposed to children’s literature to develop their skills for literary appreciation, and also hone their skills in storytelling, journalism, debating, and creative writing. In Mathematics, non-routine questions are posed to develop these pupils’ critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. To foster a scientific mindset, our pupils undergo modules focusing on scientific inquiry, innovative and design thinking, and conduct individual research studies as part of their learning.

Co-Curricular Activities

As part of our pupils’ holistic development, Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) offer an authentic platform to develop

competencies in areas outside of the classroom. We believe that every child should have a hobby, and through the range of CCAs we offer, we aim to engage them in meaningful hobbies and develop their passion in their respective CCAs. We have consistently performed well in various national level competitions, earning a plethora of awards, including top placings in the national school competitions for Wushu, Certificates of Distinctions for our Performing Arts CCAs during the Singapore Youth Festival competitions, as well as the Gold awards for both our Uniformed Groups.

Admiralty Primary School Prospectus

The MOSAICThe MOSAIC is a bi-annual in-house production showcasing

our talents in the Performing Arts, Wushu and Rope-skipping CCAs. Held at the The Republic Cultural Centre

at Republic Polytechnic, the MOSAIC is a showcase piece for our pupils to demonstrate their skills that they have painstakingly honed during their CCA sessions. Each CCA puts up a performance as a part of a musical written and choreographed by our teachers. In addition, charity sales are organised by the Visual Arts Club selling pieces of our pupils’ artworks, with all proceeds benefiting pupils at the Rainbow Centre.

Performance CharacterBe a Hardworking Tortoise! Be a Humble Hare!

Adapting the well-known fable of The Tortoise and the Hare, we teach performance character through our in-house developed Totti and Hoppi animation series. With these characters framed within a perspective-taking model, we engage our pupils in cultivating critical values and attitudes

using a common language to express their understanding. Modules include lessons on how the brain works ways to embrace challenges, effort leading to mastery and learning from the success of others.

Learning for Life ProgrammeWhile moral character is foundational, character education must also develop performance character to promote academic learning and foster an ethic of excellence. The Learning for Life Programmes provide students with real-life experiences to develop character and values, cultivate positive attitudes and strengthen their social skills. Here at Admiralty Primary School, we teach them the skills to raise their confidence to pursue work excellence and stress the importance of lifelong learning.

The World as Our Classroom!Overseas Learning Journey

The cultural experiences and values of our children shape the way they grow up and understand the world around them. Admiralty Primary School places a great emphasis on our cross-cultural

programmes (CCP) to prepare our pupils to be meaningfully engaged in Singapore’s diverse cultural communities.

A key facet of our CCP is the annual Overseas Learning Journeys (OLJs) that our Primary 5 pupils have the opportunity to participate in. Started in 2011, the OLJs offer an authentic immersive experience in a new culture for our students to develop self-confidence and independence away from home. The interactions with other people from diverse backgrounds shape their awareness and understanding of cross-cultural differences.

Admiralty Primary School also believes in the importance of providing our pupils the rare opportunity to play host to foreign delegations. With the belief that every child is a leader, our pupils from Primary 4 to Primary 6 have the experience of being a host to a foreign student in their class. As a buddy, our pupils display qualities of amiability, confidence and compassion, exuding enthusiasm to conduct themselves well to ensure that the visiting students will leave with fond memories of their immersion in our school.

Community PartnershipsThe community is a platform for authentic learning and we

believe that it develops social empathy and responsibility in our pupils. Through our partnership with community

stakeholders, our pupils participate in community projects such as the Share-a-Pot at Kampung Admiralty outreach for senior citizens and are involved in public performances. Admiralty Primary School has been presented with the Outstanding Partnership Awards from both the North-West CDC and the People’s Association for five consecutive years in recognition of our partnership efforts.

Primary One Registration ExerciseFor Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident children, the Primary One Registration Exercise is conducted from July to August every year. To better secure a place for your child in Admiralty Primary School, we strongly encourage interested parents to partner with the school as a Parent Volunteer while your child is still in Kindergarten 1.
