• Apply to K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research for admission through the Online Admission Form available on our website http://simsr.somaiya.edu. Candidate can apply for all the PGDM programmes (except PGDM Executive) using a single form. A student can opt for all the five programmes viz.,

1. PGDM 2. PGDM (INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS) 3. PGDM (RETAIL MANAGEMENT) 4. PGDM (FINANCIAL SERVICES) 5. PGDM (COMMUNICATIONS)

3. Ensure that you mark your preference correctly. Your selection/wait listing for a

programme during the counseling session will be guided by the preference opted for. Note: As the admission would be granted only during the counseling session it is important to note that a candidate will be considered for counseling (selection/wait listing) only if he/she has applied for that particular programme and has given the preference number/s to the programme applied for. Please refer to the counseling process for further details. The counseling process is explained in detail in a separate section.

4. Application Form Fees • The form fees for Application under Foreign National/NRI, CIWGC(Children of those

parents are working in Gulf Countries)and PIO category to the PGDM programme is Rs 2550/-

• A candidate can opt for any one programme with an online application form fee of Rs.2050/-.

• A candidate can opt for any two programmes with an online application form fee of Rs.2550/-.

• A candidate can opt for three or more programmes (upto all five programmes) with an online application form fee of Rs.3050/-.



• Application Form Fees can be remitted through Debit Card / Credit Card (with no extra Cost) / Demand Draft in favor of “K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research” payable at Mumbai / Receipt of IMS Learning Center (wherever applicable)

• The application form fees is neither refundable nor transferable Note: • Last date for filling of online application form is 15th Feb 2014. • Only the complete application forms will be considered for short listing in the stage 2. • A System generated automated email will be sent to ( your email mentioned in

your application form) you on the successful SUBMITION of the Application Form

• The Institute will not acknowledge the receipt of the application form. Once the application form number (unique) gets generated, it can be safely assumed that the form has been accepted. Please note the application for further communications with the Institute.

• The applicants are advised to fill in the form well in advance and avoid last minute rush.

• Candidates are advised to make payment through Debit Card / Credit Card (With no extra Cost). Such applicants are not required to send any document/s in physical format except the Qualifying Examination Admit card clearly mentioning your Somaiya application No in the right Top of it .

• Incase, the payment for form fees is made through Demand draft, the candidate has to obtain the print copy of filled form and sent it along with the DD, Qualifying Examinations Admit Card to :-

• The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of test score in the following Qualifying/Admission Test: CAT 2013, CMAT Sept 2013 / Feb 2014, GMAT [Scores of last 2 years: Jan’2012 to Jan’2014—valid only for candidates applying under Foreign National and PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) categories].

• The Institute reserves the right to use relevant work experience and / or past academic record and/or outstanding achievements score as the additional parameter for short listing candidates for the stage 3 of the admission process.

• The names of short listed candidates for stage 3, along with date, time and venue will be published on the website on or before 17th March 2014 by 7.00 p.m. The above can be



accessed on our website http://simsr.somaiya.edu. Also, each of the short listed candidates for stage 3 will be intimated through email.

• All the shortlisted candidates are required to confirm their participation for Stage 3 through email to the institute.

S T A G E 3: (Written Case Analysis and Personal Interview) • This stage may include extempore presentation as well. • The third stage of the selection process will be conducted at Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata,

Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi and Shillong. • The Institute reserves the right to add/change/drop any of these venues, which will be

intimated through notice on our website. • All the candidates reporting for stage 3 are required to submit their Student

profile(Downloaded from the Website) and the Statement of Purpose [Hand written] during the process

• The candidates are advised to carry the originals for verification and submit copies of their Academic Transcripts/Work Experience Certificate(s)/Outstanding Achievements (if any) during the stage 3 process.

S T A G E 4: (Declaration of merit position/rank for each of the candidate) • All the candidates who appear for stage 3 of the admission process will be ranked. • The merit position/rank will be on the basis of cumulative performance in all of the specified

parameters. • The respective weightage(s) for the parameters are given in the Table/s below. • The Institute reserves the right to fix the minimum qualifying marks for each of these

parameters and/or change the parameters and their weightage.

S T A G E 5: (The Counseling Process) • The eligible candidates will be called for counseling at different time slots depending on the

rank, intake of the programme and the availability of seats. The status will be updated on website at the end each day of counseling.

T H E CO U N S E L I N G P R O C E D U R E

1. All Candidates called for counseling are expected to reach the venue 30 minutes before the schedule slot. The venue will be

1. Centralized Counseling (Single window) will be organized for selection of seats to PGDM, PGDM-IB, PGDM-RM, PGDM-FS and PGDM – COMM programmes. The schedule for the counseling sessions will be announced after completion of stage 3 of admission process.

2. The Institute will continuously update the status in the counseling room and on the website at the end of each day of counseling.

3. Candidates are advised to check for updates with respect to availability of seat in each of the programmes on the website www.simsr.somaiya.edu before reporting to the counseling session.

4. In case if there are no vacant seats left in any of the programmes, the Institute will not continue with the counseling session/s. The number of seats available in each of the programmes are (PGDM -120; PGDM-IB: 60, PGDM-RM:60, PGDM-FS: 60 and PGDM-COM: 60).

5. Candidates should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility requirements mentioned in the admission brochure before they report for counseling. Only the candidates whose ranks are included in the counseling schedule are required to attend the counseling.

6. The mode of payment will be through EASY PAY option. (The details will be made available later)

7. The presence of the candidate at the counseling is mandatory. In case, due to unavoidable circumstances(s) a candidate is not able to report to counseling session, he/she may authorize another individual to represent him/her at the counseling. This representative must carry the authorization letter and bring all the documents. Absence of the candidate or his/her representative at the indicated venue, reporting time and date will result in the instant forfeiture of any claim for a seat.

8. However, if the candidate who has applied for only one programme and is assured of selection to the programme on the basis of his/her rank/merit position, he/she may be granted exemption towards physical presence for the counseling session provided he/she remits the fees on or before the start of the counseling session/s. Such candidates will receive the letter/email to this effect separately.

9. The admission granted will be provisional and subject to the verification of originals. 10. Only the candidate/representative will be allowed into the counseling hall. They will be

called in the order of their ranks and offered the seats available at that point of time. They are permitted to choose any of the programmes that they have applied for (if seats are available) during their turn.



11. The choice of programme made by the candidate / representative is final and binding and cannot be altered later under any circumstances.

T H E WAI T L I S T I NG P R O C E DU R E

1. WAIT LIST (For the candidates who applied only for one programme) i. The candidate depending upon the merit position/rank will be counseled individually

ii. If the candidate who has applied for only one programme and could not get admission to the programme, he/she will be automatically placed in wait list. They will be informed of the selection as and when vacancy arises. The movement from wait list to select list will be strictly on the basis of merit position/rank.

iii. The details about the remittance of provisional fees/mode will be specified later.

Illustration CASE 1: Candidate applying only for one programme (Say, PGDM (RETAIL MANAGEMENT). The application form will contain

The candidate will be considered only for PGDM (RETAIL MANAGEMENT) during the counseling session. The admission will be subject to merit position and availability of seat in this programme

Scenario 1: Based on the merit position, seat is available in PGDM (Retail Management) programme; he/she will be granted admission to the programme during the counseling session. In case if the candidates merit position/rank is high and he/she is assured of selection, such candidates may be granted exemption to the counseling process. However, the admission would be confirmed only after the payment of fees within the specified period. (The mode of payment and time line will be specified in a letter of admission)

Scenario 2: Incase the seat gets filled i.e., seats in PGDM (Retail Management) gets filled, all the candidates who have applied only for this programme gets waitlisted (irrespective of his/her presence in the counseling session). Such candidates on selection will be intimated accordingly. However, the admission would be confirmed only after the payment of fees within the specified period. (The mode of payment and time line will be specified in a letter of admission)

2. WAIT LIST (For the candidates who applied for exactly two programmes)



i. All the candidates have to report for the counseling process. The candidates not reporting to counseling session will forfeit their claim for admission (selection/wait listing process).

ii. The details about the remittance of provisional fees/mode will be specified later iii. The candidate depending upon the merit position/rank will be counseled individually iv. The candidate will have to secure admission to the programme available at the time

of counseling. For the other programme he/she will be wait listed. The candidate can choose to opt out of the wait list process.

v. In case, the candidate do not accept the seat to the programme available at the time of counseling, he/she will be put on wait list of the other programme.

vi. In case the seats to both the programme which the candidate has applied for gets filled, the candidate shall be placed in the wait list of both the programmes in the order of preference indicated at the time of filling the application form.

vii. The movement from wait list position to the selection will be on the basis of preference and within preference the SIMSR Rank obtained by the candidate.

Scenario 2: The seat in the PGDM (Communications) programme is not available. However, seat is available in PGDM (Retail Management), he/she will be granted admission to PGDM (Retail Management) and also will be put into the wait list of PGDM (Communication). The candidate can choose to opt out of wait list process, if so desired. In case, the candidates choose NOT to take admission in PGDM (Retail Management) (programme with preference 2) – he/she shall still be put in the wait list of PGDM (Communication). However, such candidates will not have any claim to the PGDM (Retail Management) programme later on. Scenario 3: The seats are not available in either of the two programmes applied to. The candidate will be put in the wait list to the programme in the order of preference specified. Programme Preference

vi. In case the seats to all the three programmes which the candidate has applied for gets filled, the candidate shall be placed in the wait list of all three programmes in the order of preference indicated at the time of filling the application form.

vii. The movement from wait list position to the selection will be on the basis of preference and within preference the merit position.

The candidate may be allowed to opt out of the wait list process during the counseling, if so desired. Scenario 4: The seat in the PGDM programme, PGDM (International Business) as well as PGDM (Financial Services) is not available.
