REPORTS

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
As President of Golf Manitoba, I am pleased to report on our activities for the past year. 2012 marked the 10th anniversary of the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame and Museum. Golf Manitoba, the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Manitoba and the Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association jointly operate the Golf Hall of Fame and Museum. The Hall now has 49 honoured members with the 2012 members being inducted at a ceremony held at McPhillips Station Casino on September 24. The 2012 inductees were Tanys Aspevig, Steve Bannatyne, Joyce Collier, Dale Goehring and Glen Hnatiuk. To celebrate the 10 th anniversary, a luncheon was held which many of the Hall’s honoured members attended. Since its inception, Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame and Museum has received tremendous support from Manitoba Lotteries. That support is greatly appreciated. Golf Manitoba administers the Manitoba Golf Scholarship Fund Inc., a registered charity with objective of providing financial assistance to young golfers pursuing post-secondary education in Canada. The 2012 recipients were Bryce Barr (Southwood), Erik Christianson (Breezy Bend), Brodie Gobin (Portage), Scott Mazur (Elmhurst), David Nelson (Southwood), Bret Thompson (Southwood) and Lucas Wazney (Elmhurst) who received the Dr. Daya Gupta Scholarship for the highest academic standing. Congratulations to all the recipients. The National Golf in Schools (NGIS) program, which introduces golf to children in elementary schools, has had tremendous growth with over 100 schools in Manitoba registered for the program (60 schools were registered in 2011). Golf Manitoba encourages and challenges our member clubs to adopt a local school and provide that school with a NGIS kit, an investment of $475 to help grow the game in Manitoba and North West Ontario. Golf Manitoba grass roots development programs, the CN Future Links and NGIS clinics, had 5751 children participate in 2012, a record number of participants. This fall, a high school component has been added to the NGIS. This will provide the opportunity to introduce even more kids to our great game. Golf becoming an Olympic sport at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil will have a far reaching impact. Here in Manitoba and Canada golf is now included in all summer Games. As a result, Golf Manitoba player development initiatives now include training squads in preparation for the Games. The 2012 Power Smart Manitoba Games in Swan River were a huge success for the participants and our regional coach initiative. We look forward to continued success as our 2013 Canada Games training squad takes shape. Our member clubs have been informed in a joint letter from Golf Manitoba and Golf Canada of the 2013 dues as follows: Golf Canada/Golf Manitoba annual adult membership fee for 2013: $25.00 ($13.00 Golf Manitoba, $12.00 Golf Canada) Golf Canada/Golf Manitoba annual junior membership fee for 2013: $18.50 ($11.00 Golf Manitoba, $7.50 Golf Canada) Membership dues allow Golf Manitoba and Golf Canada to provide the programs and services needed to grow the game in our province for the benefit of all golfers. They help support such things as:
Golf in Schools presented by Callaway
CN Future Links
Regional, provincial, university and national teams
- 4 -
Golf Fore the Cure presented by Subaru
Regional, provincial competitions
Rules and handicap seminars
Coaching, training and certification
Government advocacy and awareness Golf Manitoba would not be able to put on the programs and tournaments that we do without our dedicated volunteers who faithfully give their time and effort. Congratulations to Rudy Boivin who received the Distinguished Service Award at last year’s Awards Dinner held at Southwood Golf and Country Club. Thanks to all our volunteers for your help and congratulations to those receiving long service awards. I would like to extend my thanks to the Golf Manitoba Board members for their hard work and dedication this past year. Special thanks to our Committee Chairs and committee members for your efforts and council to ensure the smooth running of our organization. The committee reports are included in this annual report. Please refer to them for details of their activities. I want to express my appreciation to the Golf Manitoba staff, including Dave Comaskey, John Lamarche, Garth Goodbrandson, Lisa Andersen, Carol Muzychka, Lorne How and the summer interns for their work and assistance this past year. Respectfully Submitted, Rob MacDonald President

HANDICAP & COURSE RATING COMMITTEE REPORT The handicap & course rating committee had another busy year. 2012 was the beginning of another cycle for the course rating system which is updated every four years. In order to keep up to date with these changes, Barbara Hamill attended a Golf Canada seminar in Toronto. I attended the Golf Canada seminar in Toronto as well as the United States Golf Association seminar in Chicago. A training session was conducted at the Southwood Golf & Country Club in June for Golf Manitoba course raters to bring them up to date with the changes to the course rating system. To maintain valid course and slope ratings, golf courses are required to be re–rated at least every 10 years or when significant changes are made. A total of 21 course ratings were completed in 2012. These included 14 re-ratings, 5 for additional tees and changes, and 2 temporary ratings due to construction completed during the summer. Women’s ratings included Beausejour, Breezy Bend, Glendale, Grand Pines, Hecla, Maplewood, River Oaks, South Interlake, Southwood, Whitewater and Windsor. Men’s ratings included Beausejour, Breezy Bend, Glendale, Grand Pines, Hecla, Maplewood, River Oaks, South Interlake, Southwood and Windsor. Golf Manitoba continues to conduct Handicap Education Seminars for representatives from our member clubs. In 2012, a provincial seminar was held at the Sport for Life Centre where the Golf Manitoba office is located in April. The license agreement with the USGA requires that each club have at least one representative certified. These representatives will then be used as a resource for inquiries at the club level. If your club has not sent an individual, please do so and if you have already sent someone, we would encourage you to send others to be educated on the details of the handicap system. We would also encourage clubs to organize seminars specifically for your members and Golf Manitoba will come to your club to assist. Thank you to all our volunteers for their efforts through out the year. Looking forward to another busy summer for all our men’s and women’s rating teams next year as well as continuing to educate Manitoba and North West Ontario golfers on the parameters of the handicap system. Respectfully Submitted, Brian Gilhuly Handicap & Course Rating Committee Chair

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE REPORT On behalf of the Golf Manitoba Marketing and Communications Committee, I am pleased to provide an update on the 2012 activities. Our mandate has continued throughout the past year as we remain dedicated to enhancing both the level of communication and marketability of Golf Manitoba. From a communications perspective, we have diversified our communication tools over the past year with our contact database, our newsletter, Blue Golf messaging as well as moving into the social media age with creating a presence and providing updates on Twitter and Facebook. From a marketing standpoint, Golf Manitoba along with other provincial sport organizations remains somewhat challenged to be able to generate viable and sustainable sponsorship arrangements to greatly impact our bottom line. In today’s world, funding decisions have to be made and as such, Golf Manitoba has placed an emphasis on development programs, which may be ideally suited to generating interest at some levels for potential corporate support. As we work through some of those potential opportunities associated with the development of the game, we have been left in a position of providing limited funding to certain areas that may have received greater levels of funding years ago. We certainly recognize that the responsibility of servicing our existing sponsors and securing new sponsors have become as important as ever. As we move forward, we will investigate all options to enhance our ability to increase our off-course revenue stream. We will continue to look for opportunities to work with Golf Canada regarding potential opportunities for the involvement of national sponsors at the local level. We would like to recognize the support shown by corporate leaders and supporters of amateur golf in Manitoba and North West Ontario such as Nott Autocorp, Titleist & Foot Joy Canada & The Golf Dome, as well as Sport Manitoba and Golf Canada. Thank you to committee members Don MacDonald, Rudy Boivin, Trish Jordan and Gord Boultbee for their continued volunteer efforts. Thank you to Dave Comaskey and our professional staff for making things happen. Respectfully Submitted, Kevin O’Donovan Marketing & Communications Committee Chair

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT The 2012 golf year is coming to a close and hopefully it was a good year for everyone on the course. Membership in Golf Manitoba has approximately 13,500 members with approximately 100 clubs. These membership numbers are very similar to those from 2011. Our continued focus in 2012 was to promote the advantages of membership to all member and non-member clubs. Golf Manitoba Executive Director Dave Comaskey and Blair Armitage, Golf Canada’s Regional Director of Membership Development in Western Canada, visited many clubs this spring to discuss membership and the benefits of belonging to Golf Manitoba and Golf Canada. Visiting member clubs and non member clubs is important in getting the word out about the value of being a member. Once again the dues did not change in 2012 and all members can partake in all services provided by Golf Manitoba and Golf Canada. In 2013 the dues will be increased by $4.00 ($2.00 to Golf Manitoba and $2.00 to Golf Canada) to meet the increasing costs Golf Canada and Golf Manitoba incur. Membership provides members with a number of programs and services including:
1. Course and Slope Rating Courses are rated on a 10 year cycle with new courses rated every year until they are 10 years old.
2. Handicap Factor
The course and slope factor are used to determine a players Handicap Factor which allows golfers to compete regardless of ability.
3. Golf Canada Score Centre
Provided by Golf Canada this online service allows tracking of handicaps and handicap factors. Golf Canada provides many member services for individuals and clubs.
4. Rules of Golf Allows members to be kept informed and up dated on new rules, as well as holding clinics for officials and members.
5. Player Development A number of clinics/camps are conducted by Golf Professional Garth Goodbrandson for golfers of different skill levels and for clubs who do not have a CPGA Professional.
6. National Golf in Schools Program
Launched in 2009 to grow the game of golf, this program is for elementary school aged children to learn the game of golf. We have over 60 schools involved and it is just getting bigger.
7. Scholarships The Golf Manitoba Scholarship Fund and the Golf Canada Foundation offer scholarships to students with academic excellence and have participated in the golf community and are pursuing post secondary studies at a Canadian educational institution.
- 8 -
8. Fundraising Member clubs can apply to Golf Manitoba and provide 7 volunteers to work a 3 hour Bingo and receive $750.00.
9. Golf Canada Golf Card This card provides many benefits from hotel rates to insurance.
10. Information Newsletters and publications are available for all members and cover a variety of topics.
11. Regional Coaches In 2012 Golf Manitoba hired professionals in all 8 regions of the province to develop young golfers as well as prepare them for the Power Smart Games held in Swan River, Manitoba in July 2012. Golf Manitoba is also training young golfers for the Summer Games to be hosted in Quebec in 2013.
12. Women’s Golf Golf Manitoba has approval for a $15,000.00 grant from Golf Canada to support Women’s programs that have an impact on Women’s golf in Manitoba and NW Ontario.
For more information on what Golf Manitoba offers you the golfer and other benefits contact our office or go to our website www.golfmanitoba.mb.ca. I want to thank Dave Comaskey and staff for their work on membership this year and I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue promoting the many benefits that Golf Manitoba offers through this program to members and non-members alike. OFFICIALS COMMITTEE REPORT It has once again been a long and busy schedule of tournaments and rules clinics this year. The weather has been incredible and relatively bug free. To those tournament officials on scene; Lisa, Lorne and Aynsley, many thanks to you for your assistance, patience and professionalism throughout the year. To the office staff (Carol, Garth, John and Evelyn), thank you for your tireless work. Special thanks to Dave Comaskey for his leadership and help in the past year. To those of you who marked courses and prepared Supplementary Local Rules for our events, my sincere thanks. To my fellow committee members (Betty Grant, Lou Spado, Louise Daymond, Don MacDonald), I say thank you and I hope that we will continue to work together in the same co-operative manner. We also continued rules clinics during the winter that were well attended by players and officials and potential officials. We took our winter clinics to the clubs (St. Boniface, Rossmere, Breezy Bend, and St. Charles) this past winter and saw an increase in attendance primarily due to local members from each club. These clinics will be offered again in the coming winter and spring. Golf Canada has a program for developing Rules officials. Levels 1 through 4 have been developed to make it easier for someone to learn more about the Rules of Golf or even become a rules official. The progression is as follows:
1 Levels One and Two are offered on-line through the Golf Canada website 2. Level 3 is conducted by the provincial golf associations 3. Level 4 is the National clinic run by Golf Canada
It goes without saying that the strength of Golf Manitoba, aside from the staff members, is in the volunteers, who readily give up their time to ensure that the golfers of Manitoba and North West Ontario have a positive, pleasant experience participating in our competitions. Lastly, my thanks to those who participated in another successful season. Respectfully Submitted, Bob Fallis Officials Committee Chair

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE REPORT
2012 was a very exciting year for Golf Manitoba’s Player Development programs. For the third straight year, Golf Manitoba increased the number of children who were exposed to the game through participation in our programs. Over 6000 children participated in the camps and clinics offered by Golf Manitoba. Player Development Intern Aynsley O’Donovan and PGA of Canada Professional Glen Sirkis, were the key instructors. A big thank you to both Aynsley and Glen who did such a great job introducing golf in such a fun and positive manner. As always, a great big thank you to Garth Goodbrandson for his commitment, enthusiasm, and skill in leading Golf Manitoba’s Player Development programs. In the past three years, golf has been a first time sport in the 2009 Canada Games and at the 2011 Western Canada Games. The athletes involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves and they will be able to look back at their experience as a terrific life long memory. The “Games” experience has proven to be very positive for young athletes across Canada. In 2012 Golf Manitoba continued its efforts to grow the game and give athletes opportunities and lasting memories to young players by introducing an expanded Powersmart Manitoba Games program for athletes ages 15 and under. As part of the Program, in December of 2010, eight regional Golf Professionals were hired by Golf Manitoba to develop a Regional Training Squad that consisted of mental game training, nutrition and team practice sessions. Regional Coaches were: Dean North Central Greg Love Eastman Darren McMillan Interlake Rance Stangeland Norman Clint Weir Parkland Dave Scinocca Westman Tom Kinsman Winnipeg Gold Ed Boge Winnipeg Blue Over seventy young boys and girls participated in the regional training squads to prepare for the 2012 Power Smart Manitoba Games. Following a 36 hole regional qualifier, 32 boys and 19 girls competed both individually and as a team for their respective region in Swan River. The girl’s team event was a top two score count format. The results were: Team Gold Medal Winnipeg Gold (Veronica Vetesnik, Katie McGlenen, Camryn Roadley) Silver medal Winnipeg Blue (Marissa Naylor, Liana Bao, Byrnn Todd, Haley Shanks) Bronze Medal Interlake (McKyla Poponick, Karly McMillan, Dana Hallson, Lily Hoydalo) Individual Gold Medal Veronica Vetesnik (Winnipeg Gold) 79-83-162 Silver Medal Liana Bao (Winnipeg Blue) 80-88-168 Bronze Medal Camryn Roadley (Winnipeg Gold) 85-83-168
- 11 -
The boy’s event was a top three of four score count format. The results were: Team Gold Medal Interlake (Nathan Wright, Josh Hofer, Mason Foreman, Auzzie Loewen) Silver Medal Winnipeg Blue (Scott Lemon, Tim Brabant, Chad Boyle, Cameron McIntyre) Bronze Medal Westman (Zac Whitecloud, Austin Dobrescu, Kolby Day, Tanner Kyle) Individual Gold Medal Kirk Markowski (Eastman) 75-73-148 Silver Medal Josh Neufeld (Central) 75-75-150 Bronze Medal Scott Lemon (Winnipeg Blue) 77-74-151 For the second time, golf will be one of seventeen sports competing in the 2013 Canada Games. Golf Manitoba began training programs for the Canada Games Training Squad over the winter of 2012. Training Squad members received a Golf Dome membership, a Functional Movement Screening, weekly team practices throughout the spring/summer months and they also participated on the Mundie Putter or Nassau team. The training squad will continue to prepare throughout the winter, spring and summer before qualifying for the three person team. Respectfully Submitted,
Graham Robson Player Development Committee Chair

TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE REPORT 2012 was another great year for golf in Manitoba, with the weather cooperating for most of July and August, although there were a few soggy tournaments in the spring that created a few challenges. Highlights of the 2012 golf season:
Golf Manitoba conducted 15 championships and 4 qualifiers this year. There were approximately 1150 participants in 2012, which is up from 1100 participants in 2011, and the same in 2010.
Increasing participation in events continues to be a main objective of Golf Manitoba’s tournament committee. This year several changes were implemented to help achieve this objective; they include:
o The Women’s City and District Championship offered a non - competitive flight for players who may want to experience a competitive event without having their scores posted.
o The Women’s Amateur and Men’s Mid Amateur Championships were combined.
o The Senior Men and Women’s Championships were combined and skill events offered during the tournament.
These changes saw modest improvements in participation and will continue to be monitored for results.
For the fourth year running, we are very pleased and fortunate to have Nott Autocorp as the Title Sponsor for the Men’s Amateur Championship. This year the Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Championship was played at the Glendale Golf & Country Club with 120 competitors participating.
The change in policy implemented last year to allow the use of motorized golf carts in all competitions (except Juniors) continued to be well received by competitors and welcomed by the tournament host clubs this year. Golf Manitoba’s Pace - of - Play program continued to ensure that tournaments are conducted with a comfortable and reasonable pace of play of just over 4 and a half hours.
Our wonderful volunteers were present at all Golf Manitoba events filling approximately 340 positions throughout the year including rules officials, starters, scorers, timers, course markers, and score board markers. Our volunteers, clearly, make our events run like a well - oiled machine.
To our host clubs - thank you for hosting Golf Manitoba events and supporting competitive golf in Manitoba and North Western Ontario.
Also, I would like to thank the 2012 tournament committee members of Louise Daymond, Barry Hooke, Michelle Lee, Carol Martel and staff members Dave Comaskey (Executive Director), Lisa Andersen (Director of Competitions) and Lorne How (Tournament Administrator) who work so tirelessly and enthusiastically to continue improving Golf Manitoba events for our members.
Golf Manitoba will continue to work toward offering as many options as possible in order to increase the participation and the growth of golf in our province. Your constructive comments and feedback are always appreciated. Respectfully Submitted, Tammy Gibson Tournament Committee Chair

TREASURER’S REPORT
As required by the by-laws of Golf Manitoba Inc., the financial statements for the year ended March 31, 2012 are presented to the members in the annual report. I am pleased to report that Golf Manitoba recorded a net profit for the fiscal year of $4,071 compared to a net loss of $7,944 in 2011. Revenues for the year decreased by approximately $31,000. Several contributing factors:
Increases Decreases
Golf Canada Women’s Grant
Increase in Fees for Games Training squads (Manitoba and Canada)
Membership Fees
Tournament Entry Fees
Development Grants and sponsorship
Membership revenues were approximately $13,000 lower than the previous year. Membership numbers and the contributing revenues have been a focus of the board of directors and further information regarding strategic initiatives are included in the Membership report. Expenses for the year decreased by approximately $43,000. Several contributing factors:
Decreases Increases
Administration Expenses
Teams
Tournament Expenses
Clinics and Camps
Programs and services provided to the golfing community by Golf Manitoba were moderated by the revenues received, directly and indirectly, to fund such programs and/or services. Our administration staff exercised their best efforts to ensure that the integrity of the program and/or service was maintained at the highest level possible within the available resources. I would like to thank our administration staff for the continued effort and diligence. Respectfully Submitted, Vince Mariani Treasurer

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE REPORT Each season, Golf Manitoba conducts a number of events, in Winnipeg and across the province. Without our core of dedicated volunteers, we would be hard pressed to fill such an impressive schedule. A one day tournament requires a minimum of 5 trained volunteers, working alongside our Director of Competitions and our great team of administrative staff. Add the terrific volunteers from the host club and you have at least 10-15 people working extremely hard to ensure that Golf Manitoba events are run in a professional, efficient manner and that they are conducted with integrity and sportsmanship. Forty-five days of competitive events translates into over 2600 volunteer hours! That doesn't include the hours that went into rating the course at some point (by volunteers), marking the course for tournament play (by volunteers), or the take down when the last putt has dropped and scorecard is signed. Tournaments are not the only way to volunteer with Golf Manitoba. Volunteers serve on the Board of Directors and on committees who meet during the winter to help set the program for the coming seasons or provide training and seminars on rules and handicaps. Volunteers take turns helping out at bingos, and take part in seminars and clinics. Golf Manitoba looks forward to meeting with its volunteers twice a year: at the spring officials meeting, then again in the fall at the Volunteer Appreciation day. Our thanks to Glendale Golf and Country Club for hosting our initial get together this spring. This year we were able to take our discussion of course marking out onto the practice hole, and our volunteers gained a new perspective on the role that course marking volunteers play in a successful event. We are pleased to have some new volunteers join us from Winkler, and their services were put to good use in events in Morden, Carman and Portage. Our appreciation goes to Teulon Golf & Country Club for hosting this season's volunteer windup and dinner. The Distinguished Service Award is given annually to a volunteer who has gone above and beyond what it takes to be great volunteer. Last year's recipient was Rudy Boivin, a former president of the Manitoba Golf Association, has served on the Manitoba Sports Federation, Manitoba Golf Scholarship Fund Board, and the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame Board of Directors and current volunteer on the Marketing and Communications Committee. We are looking forward to revealing this year's recipient at the Annual General Meeting and Awards Night at the Glendale Golf & Country Club. Thank you to all our volunteers - whether it was your first year or your 20th, we are happy to have you and look forward to seeing you again in the spring! Respectfully Submitted, Louise Daymond Volunteer Committee Chair

GOLF CANADA PROVINCIAL COUNCIL REPORT
The 12 member Provincial Council consists of an appointee from each Provincial Golf Association, a chair person and a Golf Canada staff member. It was my pleasure to again represent Golf Manitoba on Golf Canada Provincial Council. The Mandate of the Provincial Council is: “As the interface between Golf Canada and the Provincial Golf Associations, the Provincial Council shall review key governance, strategic and policy issues and communicate any such issues to the Golf Canada Board of Directors that may impact the working relationship between Golf Canada and the Provincial Golf Associations.” Last year we met during the Golf Canada AGM and had three conference call meetings. Our focus for the next year will be on: 1) Improving Communications
The Provincial Golf Associations and Golf Canada share the same goal, namely To Grow the Game of Golf. To help us achieve this goal we share successful activities and discuss our challenges. To measure results, we have adopted a set of weighted Key Performance Indicators which are up dated before each meeting.
2) Club Visitation/ Membership Strategy
Three years ago Golf Canada initiated a club visitation/membership drive to create awareness about the purpose and value of a Golf Manitoba/Golf Canada membership. Blair Armitage, Golf Canada Regional Director of Membership for Western Canada and Dave Comaskey, Golf Manitoba Executive Director visited a number of golf clubs again this year.
3) Current State of Golf in Canada
The Canadian Golf Consumer Behaviour Study was conducted in order to help the Canadian golf industry to better understand the current state of golf in Canada as well as the factors that influence the behavior of consumers as they relate to golf. The study was conducted on behalf of the National Allied Golf Association by NAVICOM.
The purpose of conducting the Canadian Golf Consumer Behaviour Study was to gather insights and intelligence that can enable NAGA to better understand consumer behaviour characteristics in Canadian golf; uncover actions which offer an opportunity to sustain the game in Canada; and improve on factors that impact consumer behaviour as it relates to golf in Canada. Conclusions: In order to drive engagement and subsequent increases in rounds played and dollars spent on lessons, equipment, apparel, accessories and in the club house, it is essential to have more golfers statistically associate with the benefits of golf. The Canadian golf industry must work together to find innovative ways to show golfers that the game and everything attached to the game is; fun, enjoyable, social, challenging but winnable, inspiring, prideful and lead edge. The game needs more engaged/loyal consumers – arguably more than it needs new participants. From a consumer behavior perspective, success means getting golfers more engaged by playing more, following more, supporting more and spending more. The degree to which that measure goes up has all sorts of impact. The more engaged golfers are, the more they will spend.

Complete details of the study are on www.golfcanada.ca under Professional Tours/Golf News. While the Provincial Golf Associations and Golf Canada rely heavily on volunteers to run their programs, there are increasing expenses associated with operations. Hence we rely on membership dues, sponsorships, grants and fund raising activities to finance our programs. Respectfully Submitted, Harvey Goehring Member Golf Canada Provincial Council

MANITOBA GOLF HALL OF FAME & MUSEUM INC. REPORT The Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame is a partnership amongst Golf Manitoba, the Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association and the PGA of Manitoba. On September 24, 2012, the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame celebrated its 10th Annual Induction Ceremony with the induction of five new members:
Tannys Aspevig
Steve Bannatyne
Joyce Collier
Dale Goehring
Glen Hnatiuk There are now a total of 49 honoured members in the categories of golfer, both amateur and professional, superintendent and builder. Our website: www.manitobagolfhallofame.com has been enhanced over the past year and we will continue to improve the historical information about golf in Manitoba that can be found on the website. A permanent display of Manitoba golf memorabilia is now featured in the Upper Deck Lounge in McPhillips Station Casino. The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame has also advised us that it will be making a drawer available for golf in the new Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Gallery. We intend to devote considerable energy to researching the history of Manitoba golf, especially from the first half of the last century, to ensure that all worthy individuals are considered for inclusion in the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame. If you feel that someone should be considered for induction into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame, you are encouraged to submit a nomination form which can be found on the website. We continue to promote the benefits of golf clubs preserving and documenting their own histories and are always available for any assistance that we can offer in this regard. We wish to thank Manitoba Lotteries Corporation and McPhillips Station Casino for once again being the presenting sponsor for the Induction Ceremony and also for sponsoring a special 10th Anniversary Luncheon for all of the Honoured Members. They do an exceptional job of hosting events for us. We also express our thanks to Golf Manitoba and its staff for providing ongoing administrative support to the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame. MANITOBA GOLF SCHOLARSHIP FUND REPORT The Fund’s mandate is to provide scholarships to young golfers for the advancement and furtherance of their education at a Canadian post-secondary educational institution through the receipt, investment, accumulation and disbursement of funds for that purpose. Scholarships are awarded to golfers who are members of golf clubs which are members of Golf Manitoba, and who submit applications which meet established criteria. The Manitoba Golf Scholarship Fund’s policy is to build our capital through contributions received and to provide annual scholarships from the interest earned on the accumulated capital. The Fund has increased from the initial capital of $6,000 to a current balance exceeding $150,000. The Fund’s capital continues to grow, based upon the generosity of golf club and individual donors. During the current year, due to the generosity of Dr. Daya Gupta’s contribution of $10,000 in 2006 and combined with earnings from the capital base, the Fund awarded a total of $7,500 to the following individuals: Lucas Wazney of Elmhurst was named the winner of the $1,500 Dr. Daya Gupta Award for the second year running with the highest scholastic standing of all this year’s applicants. Lucas is enrolled in the faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba with plans of graduating in 2013. The six winners of $1,000 scholarships were:
Bryce Barr, Southwood;
Erik Christianson, Breezy Bend;
Brodie Gobin, Portage;
Scott Mazur, Elmhurst;
David Nelson, Southwood;
Bret Thompson, Southwood;
Since 1986 the fund has awarded 149 scholarships worth a total of $150,500. The Manitoba Golf Scholarship Fund is managed by an 8 member volunteer Board of Directors, with administrative support provided by Golf Manitoba. Information on the scholarship fund can be found on Golf Manitoba’s website at golfmanitoba.mb.ca. Respectfully Submitted, Dennis Langrell President

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT
The 2012 golf season has been memorable from a number of standpoints. We’ve had very good weather which always allows for more games of golf to be played as well as provides golf clubs a very good opportunity to have a successful year; we’ve continued to grow our programming to assist in training our young golfers in all regions of the province and we’ve seen outstanding golf in our provincial championships and crowned many well deserving champions.
Our partner national organization, Golf Canada, annually provides grants to the provincial associations to assist with the delivery of our joint programming. This year, Golf Manitoba was fortunate to receive a $15000 grant to be directly used in the development of junior girl’s golf. This funding was used to assist with the regional training squads preparing for the Power Smart Manitoba Games and the Canada Games Training Squad / Nassau League Team. The training for the 2013 Canada Games included a membership at The Golf Dome, fitness assessments, nutrition counseling, mental game preparation, weekly practices and weekly competition in the Nassau League. The Regional Training Squads preparing for the Manitoba Games received weekly practices and coaching, nutrition counseling and mental game preparation, As a result of the successes in these programs, Golf Manitoba is planning to continue the Regional Training Squads in “off Games” years. We are hopeful that we can continue to provide coaching and guidance to our young athletes in all regions of the province.
The Manitoba Games have evolved significantly from a wide age range and any one can participate to this year’s format of 15 years and younger and regional teams determined from a 36 hole qualifier. The current format will increase the number of young golfers playing competitively as well as provide them with a foundation to hopefully play the game for their entire lives. Golf Manitoba feels very privileged to now be a participating sport in all levels of Games. The development opportunities for our athletes now has the potential for introduction to Games experience with the Manitoba Games to hopefully someday having a Manitoban compete in golf at the Olympics.
The business of golf continues to change dramatically. As the old saying goes, “doing more with less” is a reality for our organization. In the last five years, the following are some examples of significant changes have occurred:
We’ve increased the number of young people who are being exposed to the game of golf through the CN Future Links program from around 1000 to close to 6000
We’ve assisted with the introduction and implementation of the National Golf in Schools Program targeted at grades 1 to 6. There are now over 100 schools in Manitoba involved in this program
We’ve become a participating sport in the Western Canada and Canada Summer Games
We’ve reduced our staff size by one and a half full time positions
We’ve seen a reduction in funding at a number of levels (membership, Sport MB, Golf Canada)
Golf Manitoba is fortunate to have partnerships that assist with the delivery of our programs. In the ever changing world we are living in, we would not be able to grow and develop our programs in the manner we do. Golf Canada, Sport Manitoba, The Golf Dome, Nott Autocorp and Acushnet Canada have been very supportive of Golf Manitoba and I thank them for the partnerships we have established.
I would like to thank the Board, volunteers and staff of Golf Manitoba for their professionalism and dedication. This truly is a group of people who are passionate about the game and trying to make it better for the future.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dave Comaskey Executive Director

Golf Manitoba Volunteer Recognition
2011 Distinguished Service Award
Rudy Boivin of the Southwood Golf & Country Club was the fifth recipient of the annual Golf Manitoba Distinguished Service Award. Rudy began volunteering with the Manitoba Golf Association in 1980. He is a founding member of the MGA Golf Annual Magazine (now the Golf Manitoba Journal) and from 1980 to 1982 was Chair of the Advertising Committee for that magazine.
In 1982, he became a starter and scorer at MGA events and remains committed to that volunteer role today with Golf Manitoba.
In 1983 he joined the MGA Board of Directors and was the Chair of the Tournament Committee in 1986/87 and the President in 1988. He also served as the Non-Playing Captain for the Willingdon Cup Team in 1985, 1986 & 1987. From 1989 to 1994 he was nominated by the Manitoba Golf Association for the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Sport Federation, elected for 3 terms and Chair of Marketing Committee for four years. He is a current member of the Marketing & Communications Committee of Golf Manitoba. He served on the Manitoba Golf Scholarship Fund Board of Directors from 1990 to 2010 and was President of that organization from 1999 to 2005. He was also a member of the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame Board of Directors from 2002 to 2007. Rudy Boivin has been a member at the Southwood Golf & Country Club since 1966. He served on the Board of Directors from 1971 to 1978, was Member of the Year in 1976, President in 1977, Club Captain from 1990 to 1993 and honored in 2003 as a Life Member. His devotion to amateur golf is extremely evident as he continues to be involved in committees and tournament activity after 31 years of dedicated service. “Rudy Boivin has shown true passion for both the Manitoba Golf Association and Golf Manitoba” said Rob MacDonald, President of Golf Manitoba. “His long term commitment is a true asset to our Association and we are pleased to recognize him with the Distinguished Service Award”.
