More Winter RemindersAs Autumn settles in, and we look toward winter on the horizon, here are a couple reminders when coming to ADRS.

• Please make sure all winter essentials like coats, mittens, gloves, scarves, and hats have the participant’s names on the inside.

• Sometimes the weather may be too bad for us to open. Check our Weather line at 303.235.6916, to make sure we are open on those classic Colorado weather days.

• With the cold weather arriving, it tends to bring germs with it. If your loved one has an illness that is or may be contagious, please keep them home, so as not to expose other medically frail individuals at the program. Participants that have a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, a green or yellow nasal discharge, or excessive sneezing and/or coughing should stay home. If these symptoms develop at the program, a family member will be called to take the participant home immediately. Since we are a socialsetting, germs can travel very quickly in ourenvironment. Help us preserve everyone’shealth by keeping any questionablegerms home.

• Please have your walkwaysshoveled and clear for those whouse Trour ansporta Stion ervice. They will not pick you up if yourwalkway isn’t clear.

With our warmest holiday greetings, we welcome everyone to the last month of this amazing year!

There’s a lot going on this month here at SRC, and we hope that you will all join us for the fun and festivities. Kicking off the month, we will be holding a Sadie Hawkins dance on Wednesday, December 13th. Some of our favorite youth volunteers from McClain High School will be here, so make sure to dress up and come on down!

This month looks to be our craftiest yet, as the Magpies get to work on all things holiday. We’ll be making a Scandinavian Straw Star on Friday, December 1st, creating decorative crosses on Tuesday, December 5th, making a Hanukkah Dreidel pocket craft on Tuesday, December 12th, and KISSmas trees on Thursday, December 21st. In keeping with exploring and celebrating all holidays, we’ll also make our very own Mkeka (or Kwanzaa Mat), on Thursday, December 28th.

The whippoorwills will be learning about Hanukkah this year by playing the Dreidel Game on Tuesday, December 12th. We’ll also be trying out some new games this

month, with the The Price is Right on Wednesday, December 13th, the fast paced “Heads or Tails” on Friday, December 22nd, and What’s in the Balloon on Friday, December 29th?

There will also be a scavenger hunt for our Vets' Club on Friday, December 29th that you won’t want to miss. Vets will also be exploring the importance of tattoos in the service, so don’t be shocked if your guys come home with some new ink on Friday, December 1st! These amazing folks have also requested to make tie blankets for the homeless and children’s shelters this year, so if you have any blanket material you don’t know what to do with, bring it on in and we’ll put it to good use.

Our newest activity, Weird Science, got off to a great start last month, with our participants learning why leaves change color in the fall and how to “see” sound. This sparked some amazing intellectual conversations and we are so excited to see everyone rolling up their sleeves and getting into all the great ways science plays a part in our every-day lives. This month we’ll be checking out light refraction and surface tension, not to mention building a hovercraft! Don’t miss out on this great new activity, every Tuesday.

Fun with food will be making some sweet treats every Thursday this month, while the Mocktails and Museums discussion group will kick back with a smooth drink (non-alcoholic of course) and a critical eye while we discuss the works of the “greats”: Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, and Renoir.

Our Men’s Club will be getting into the swing of things as they help us to build bird-houses for our feathered friends in the garden, as well as a “Little Free Library” box. We will be accepting donations of tin cans as well as scrap wood for these projects, so if you have any lying around, please bring them in!

And no December would be complete without our annual visit from Santa! Bring your loved one in on Wednesday, December 20th to have their photo taken with the one and only Jolly St. Nick! Santa will be arriving around 10am, so be sure to get here early so you don’t miss out.

We can’t wait for all the fun to begin!

Please don’t forget to call and reserve your loved one’s spot on an outing early, as slots fill up fast! Each participant may sign up for two outings every month, and request to be placed on the back-up list for others. If there is a fee involved, please be sure to bring payment in as soon as possible.

So much to do before the year ends, and we can’t wait to get started! We hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday. Now let the fun begin!

She will be talking about “Self Care through the Holiday Madness” . The class with feature focused discussion on how to stay calm and present during this challenging time of "The Holidays." Some mediation and a writing technique (Captured Moment) will help remind us of a happy holiday experience and give us something on which to focus when things get too hectic.

A Day of Team Building and

Learning

As you know, we closed early one day in November for staff development and CPR/First Aide Training. Here are all of your Adult Day Staff after a long night of team building and learning.

Another Way to Help Seniors in the Community

Did you know there’s a simple way to help SRC receive more donations without giving any money yourself? When you shop through Amazon Smile, 0.5% of your purchase total will be donated to SRC. Just go to Smile.Amazon.com and select Seniors’ Resource Center as your charity. It’s the same layout as the everyday Amazon.com, just through a different web address. You can still use your prime membership, and the prices of the items are exactly the same. Every time you shop through Smile.Amazon.com, part of your purchase goes to helping more seniors live independently and helping more caregivers receive much needed support. It’s a no brainer; shop for the holidays through Amazon Smile and provide a donation at no extra cost to you.
