I am very pleased to be able to contribute to the first Directory of Manufacturing Capability in
North Wales. We are rightfully proud of the wide range of quality manufacturing that the region
can offer and we have identified this sector as a key asset in delivering our regional economic
growth plan.
With more than one hundred companies, over 20, 000 jobs, two universities, two of the best
further education colleges in the UK, three enterprise zones and easy access to two international
airports, North Wales has become a manufacturing powerhouse.
Aircraft have been built here since the 1930s
and North Wales is now one of the UK’s most
important regions for aerospace. We can now
add to that major capabilities in the automotive
sector, opto-electronics, geological research,
telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, paper and
packaging and green energy.
Given that North Wales can offer some of the finest
coast and countryside in the UK, it is easy to see
why the region has attracted so many world class
companies.
Airbus UK alone has invested a staggering £2
billion into its plant in the region in the last
ten years.
North Wales is a region that prides itself on its
partnership working. The local authorities, the
private sector, Welsh Government and higher and
further education are all part of a collaborative
approach to supporting and growing our economy,
an approach that has been in place for many years.
We are very ambitious for our region, we want to
see more investment in high value manufacturing
and for North Wales to be recognised on an
international scale.
Deeside Enterprise Zone is Wales’ preferred
location for advanced manufacturing and we
hope we will be the home for a new university
linked Advanced Manufacturng Centre. We are
developing a skills pipeline, bringing together
employers with our schools, colleges and
universities. We already produce large numbers
of engineering apprentices, we want to produce
many more.
This directory will introduce you to the range
and scope of engineering excellence across the

About us: A2B Plastics is an injection moulding company based in Colwyn Bay
North Wales. There has been a moulding company on this site since 1958. A2B was
formed in 2006 from an MBO. We have 18 machines ranging from 15 to 500 ton.
We employee 16 staff and we have the capability to operate on 24 hour/7days a
week production pattern if needed. We have our own tool making facilities so we
can offer the full package from concept to production. We manufacture plastic
box moulded cases with foam inserts as long as being a trade parts for electrical,

About us: Adept is a small manufacturing company producing Diamond and CBN
grinding wheels and cutting tools. The directors have many years experience in this
field exceeding 30 years. Capabilities: The customer market is diverse comprising
the aerospace and automotive sectors through to small cottage industries. We
therefore, need to be flexible and reactive both commercially and technically and
we pride ourselves in treating all customers with the same respect. Diamond tools
are used in the manufacture of non ferrous materials such as ceramics, composites,
glass as well as the non ferrous metals. CBN is used to grind hard steel in the range
of 35 Rockwell. We also have developed bespoke tooling such friction grip tools
for the automotive OEM’s and shoe heel grips being used on snow boots.
