Essence of Morning Devotion
Christ Jesus was made the High Priest not in the order of Aaron, who
was appointed by man into the High Priest position. Order refers to type,
ranking. Jews had been also influenced by much Greek mindset and
traditions, thereby quite unable to discern the work of God, used to view
the future based on his past, somewhat indisposed to what was new, so
they rejected Jesus and even the work of the Holy Spirit. Change begins
with renewal of one’s mind, should we fail to discern it, meaning we are
still moving in our old wineskin, thus restraining our stature from a
breakthrough, enhancement and renewal. When we choose to follow
upwards, our lives will also develop upwards, thus able to look at things
from a Leader’s perspective, developing a leader’s mindset and horizon,
thus causing our thinking and approaches to grow into maturity. The
Jewish people looked at Jesus liked the masses, stunting their ability to
understand that Jesus was one who surpassed angels, Aaron, the nor-
mal human High Priest, that Jesus was the Son of man, but also a King
and an eternal High Priest, is the Son of God, one appointed to be the
eternal High Priest.
Aaron the High Priest was chosen by God, but based on the order of
man. Today all our pastors and co-workers are also chosen of the LORD,
yet they are also limited, requiring them to seek divine forgiveness indi-
vidually. (Heb. 5:1-3). There a person is made honorable by reason of
his/her being chosen by God, as opposed to be chosen due to his/her
honor. Aaron was originally lowly and humble, but was later made hon-
orable due to God choosing him to be the priest, being a vessel in God’s
hand. Therefore, he must do all things according to God’s will. Let us
respond to God by reaffirming our position of being chosen by God as an
honorable vessel. Selection is God’s sovereign will, the fact that we can
respond is because the LORD has enabled us to respond. Each calling is
God’s prompting in our hearts.
The identity of Jesus is different from that of Aaron, because Jesus was
appointed in the order of Melchizedek, possessing the honorable roles of
both son and King (Heb. 5:5-6).But though Jesus was made thee eternal
and honorable High Priest, yet He humbled himself and submitted to
God’s will, suffered upon the cross to achieve redemption. We, as part
of the community chosen of God to be raised up, are we willing to emu-
late the LORD Jesus, put ourselves on the altar, pay the price, and not
afraid of difficulties? Jesus also learnt to be humble and obedient
through his suffering.
Brothers and sisters, those who are willing to grow unto maturity as
Christians, are those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to
discern both good and evil by emulating the Lord Jesus Christ.■
1. Faith and Obedience (James 2:20-22) Faith is believing before seeing; obedience is the action of response in faith towards God. Abraham set a good example for us. He used his act of obedience to express his faith towards God. Therefore, God called him righteous.
2. Obedience and Inspiration A) Differences between King Saul and King David
Saul and David were both personally called by God, anointed by Samuel as king and filled by the Spirit. However, the different choices they made brought different endings.
3. Saul Chose to Disobey A) Fear Leads to Disobedience (1 Samuel 13:11-13)
Saul was fearful of men and environment more than God. Hence he could not obey Samuel’s words and chose to perform the offer-ing himself. Fear opposes faith. Fear hinders us from obeying God and our authority.
B. Inferiority Leads to Disobedience (1 Samuel 10:20-23) When Samuel gathered the Israelites to appoint Saul as king, Saul was hiding in the baggage. Although he was outstanding, his inferi-ority caused him to hide himself.
C. Jealousy Leads to Disobedience (1 Samuel 18:7-9) David defeated Goliath and was admired by the people. Saul be-came envious. Even though he knew God will appoint David as king, he chose to have David killed and thus went against God’s will.
4. Choose Obedience to Please God A. David Chose to Obey the Authority (1 Samuel 19: 8-10)
Although David was hunted by Saul for several times, he did not take revenge against Saul. Instead, he chose to submit under Saul’s authority and serve him.
B. Obedience under God’s Sovereignty (1 Samuel 24:4-6, 26:10-11) David respects God’s authority. He did not do things according to the will of man. He has self control and put God’s will above his own interest. As he was running for his life from Saul, God molded his faith and high level of obedience. God forged a close relation-ship with David and prepared him to be a good king.
C. Pleases God (Acts 13:22) David became a man after God’s heart because he obeyed the Lord in everything.
5. Obedience Leads to Blessing A. God Anointed David as King (2 Samuel 7:8)
David has the anointing of a king. He was promoted from a small shepherd to the great king of Jerusalem.
B. God Gives David Rest (2 Samuel 7:11) David’s obedience brought blessing to others as together they en-tered into God’s rest and protection.
C. God be with David (2 Samuel 7:9) God personally honored David. God covered David as He cut off all the enemies before him and made his name great.
D. Throne be Established Forever (2 Samuel 7:16) God promised that David’s descendants will sit on the throne forev-
er. With this, Jesus Christ our redeemer came from David’s linage.

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need “ (Heb 4:15-16) .
