Carbide tooling is harder, and more resistant to heat than traditional high speed tooling. Each of these properties allow for higher feed rates, and maximum spindle RPM - saving valuable time in the drilling process and reducing production costs per ton of fabricated steel.

SIEMENS SMART SPINDLE MOTORSPowerful spindle motors and precision electronic feedback is the backbone of any modern carbide drilling system.

Peddinghaus’ Smart Spindle Motors use innovative Siemens technology to monitor spindle RPMs using linear feedback, allowing the machine to achieve speeds and feeds exactly as required.

WHY SMART SPINDLE TECHNOLOGY?Smart spindle eliminates the unnecessary drilling of “air” while guaranteeing each hole is drilled completely through material.

With Smart Spindle Technology you will see a dramatic increase in the number of holes that can be drilled in a given amount of time.

THE SMART SPINDLE DRILLING PROCESS#1 - The spindle rapidly approaches material.

#2 - If the machine does not already know tool length it will do an initial probe to determine this dimension

#3 - After finding tool length the tool will retract and spin. Instantly it knows how much torque is required to rotate the tool when not drilling material

#4 - The machine enters drilling feeds and speeds and begins drilling the hole. 90% through the theoretical material thickness the smart spindle motor begins monitoring torque.

#5 - When torque required to spin the tool drops to that of drilling air, the machine detects breakthrough.

#6 - The tool is rapidly retracted and advances to the next hole in a pattern.
