ADVANCING AFFORDABLE, RELIABLE, LOW-CARBON POWER FOR MINESThe global mining sector is now fully engaged in a major energy transformation focused on reducing power use and costs, integrating renewables, and lowering carbon emissions. This transformation is being driven by rising and volatile energy costs, increased power security concerns, shareholder and regulatory pressures to decarbonize, the falling cost of alternative energy and the tie between sustainable energy and social license to operate. The last 18 months has witnessed the highest number of new alternative energy project announcements for mines with around a dozen projects publicly announced and several more advancing.

Mines are also revamping their broader corporate strategies to center on lowering carbon emissions, integrating alternative energy, and, in some cases, decarbonizing the commodities they sell. This heightened activity has opened a window of opportunity for partnering and leading on these projects as they start to become “business as usual” for the mining sector.

Now in its 6th year, the Energy and Mines World Congress is the global meeting place for senior mining, alternative energy, government and finance experts exploring cost-effective, reliable, and low-carbon energy for mines. Join us and become part of mining’s energy transformation.

WORLD CLASS AGENDAEnergy and Mines spends months speaking with the mining and renewables communities to understand the most critical areas of interest, the latest case studies and the key people to invite. An agenda is created that reflects the key concerns in the marketplace and showcases new and innovative examples of alternative energy use in the mining sector.

BREAKFASTS, LUNCHES, BREAKS, RECEPTIONS AND DINNERThe World Congress features formal and informal occasions to meet and network with prospective clients. The functions can be hosted and sponsored by companies to provide the opportunity for brand awareness and thought leadership. Successful sponsor led functions in the past have included the gala dinner, a mine and VIP reception, breakfast briefings, boardroom meetings, hosted luncheons and branded breaks.

EXHIBITION FLOORThe Toronto Hilton Convention Suite is a self-contained network of rooms and meeting spaces at the heart of which is the exhibit area. The exhibit is located outside the main conference, lunch and meeting rooms. It is the location for registration, breaks, lunches and the drinks reception.

ONE-TO-ONE MEETINGS SERVICEFor our major sponsors we arranged private, one-to-one meetings with key mining contacts. The meetings take place in relaxed, private, catered meeting spaces that enable dialogue and interaction between potential project partners. This is a key feature for our leading sponsors as it provides direct access to key mine decision-makers.

EVENT APPThe World Congress is enhanced by a networking app that allows participants to interactand connect with each other, the sponsors and the speakers. The app also facilitates the real-time sharing of thoughts, ideas and experiences. At the last World Congress, over 1,800 messages were sent and received among the attendees.

ELECTRIFYING THE MINING SECTOR

1:40 Session 8: Electrifying the Mining Sector

11:50 Panel Discussion: Hydrogen for Mines: Strategic and Technological Innovations What are the key drivers for mines to explore hydrogen applications? What are the latest technological advances in hydrogen that are most relevant for mining applications? What are the main barriers preventing widespread adoption of hydrogen? How are mines and other key stakeholders working to address these hurdles? How do the economics for hydrogen compare to other energy investments? How does hydrogen fit with renewable integration for mines? What are recent examples from mining and other industries investing in hydrogen? What are the next steps in testing and implementing hydrogen for mines?

Electrifying underground mining operations can cut overall energy costs by up to 40-50% as well as dramatically reduce a site’s greenhouse gas footprint.
