As part of our comprehensive visitor marketing campaign we will be producing two printed visitor brochures – one in November 2019 and one in March 2020, which will show prospective visitors what will be happening at the show. It will also include:

> the current exhibitor list and floor plan (March issue only)

> details of show features, product launches, news and show offers

> timetables for the sessions in the content programme across the show

The newsletters will be posted to our database of approximately 10,000, including for the March issue 2020 pre-registered visitors.

In addition, we will print 4,000 copies of the event guide which will be available for visitors to pick up on arrival at Sign & Digital UK, helping them to navigate the show and find the suppliers and show features they particularly want to see. It is a valuable reference tool before, during and after the show. The event Guide will also be downloadable via our website, post show.

By advertising in the newsletters and/or event guide, your company will reach people from across the industry, maximising your brand exposure before the show opens and offering a great way to increase your credibility and visibility at the show.

There are a variety of full colour advertising slots available – please see the rate card for sizes and pricing.

Getting into Wide-Format Printing

SIGN & DIGITAL UK EXPLAINS THREE WF PRINTING

from around the sector that can testify to the dangers of this approach. This is specifically because once delivered, there is often very little if no basic technical support, and when your machine breaks down unexpectedly, you will be left high and dry.

Looking at the more technical aspects, aside from having the capabilities to print on flexible and rigid media, fielding the capacity to print white ink would be a key advantage if your budget can stretch to it. This is specifically because it allows you to print onto substrates that are transparent, textured, metallic, or have a saturated base colour. Additionally, whether you are investing in a basic 1.6m wide roll-to-roll device or a 5m wide hybrid system, then looking to manufacturers who have made their systems user-friendly in terms of set-up and maintenance will be a distinct advantage in the early stages of your business growth. As today’s print buyer is increasingly well-educated, being able to deliver your products quickly and to their precise standards day in, day out, is the most sure-fire route to long-term success.

An additional and critical element to think about is the overall ‘cost of ownership’ of a machine. This is specifically in relation to inks, as some manufacturers take a more ‘gas guzzling’ approach than others to achieve the same level of image quality. Factoring

in how much it will cost each month to produce your print products in terms of ink consumption is fundamental to long-term profitability.

An important consideration is that the customer that buys posters from you for their staffroom could benefit from a canvas print for their boardroom, a one-off pop-up display for their entrance that contains marketing literature, or a window graphic for their reception area. Equally, the shopping mall you are supplying banners to may also require floor graphics for their walkways or food halls, stickers for children’s play areas or two-way graphics for their glass doors.

To take advantage of both these higher value products where demand is growing and indeed traditional applications, then making your own business a canvas for creativity is an important way to demonstrate this value to customers.

Use the technology you have invested in to its maximum and curate a wide portfolio of different applications and making it as visible as you can. Print your own business cards, decorate your workshop with vinyl wall art, print off branded decals with your customer ’s artwork on as a give-away, brand your own vans with graphics, and even use your printers transfer printing capabilities to brand your soft furnishings.

What’s New for 2019ANTALIS SHOWCASES NEW PRODUCTSThis stand this year features various elements made from our new product Xanita Board, exclusively supplied by Antalis in the UK. This innovative and sustainable fibreboard is manufactured using fibres recovered from recycled cardboard boxes. Xanita Board’s robust specification makes it strong and versatile yet boasts being a quarter of the weight of an equivalent thickness MDF. This makes it a viable alternative for a wealth of sectors, whether for decorative and structural purposes, including retail (e.g. for POS), exhibitions and events (e.g. for stand build), hospitality (e.g. for pop-up advertising) and interior design (e.g. for furniture).

Antalis are also launching the new Coala Textiles range, a collection of printable textiles for signage

and decoration and a further environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional PVC. Together with the existing Coala Walldesign range, the complete portfolio of textiles and wallcoverings will enable commercial printers looking for diversification avenues to capitalise on this ongoing opportunity in the interior design market.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to navigate through our new online tool, the Antalis Product Selector, which will enable customers to easily navigate our wide range of visual communication media. Users will be able to choose a sector and see how a space can be visually transformed using a wide range of substrate solutions for specific applications.

with an RRP of just £2,999, making it an extremely attractive entry level machine.

These are just two brand names that you might already be familiar with, but there are others. For example, HP is already an active player in 3D printing, and in 2018 Xerox announced that it too has plans to develop a 3D printing solution. It is highly likely that within the next decade we will see other familiar printing industry brand names entering the 3D printing market. So, if this is the 3D printing market as it currently stands, what about the really big stuff? How do we get to the African elephant bursting out through a wall? This is where the 3D printing manufacturer Massivit comes in. Formed in 2013 Massivit commenced development of a large format 3D printer with the retail and exhibition industries in mind. Since launching its 1800 3D Printer in 2016, they have secured customers via its worldwide distributor network which includes CMYUK here in the UK.The Massivit 3D printer offers something different and new for this sector. Large format 1:1 scale 3D printing now allows retailers to create vibrant, eye-catching

window displays, point of purchase (POP) stands, visual merchandising and exhibitions elements, and even bespoke retail pop-up outlets. This includes the giant elephant bursting out of the building, which was printed by West Midlands-based sign and display company Andesign to showcase the company’s 3D printing capabilities.

What technological advances come next is anybody’s guess, but for large format 3D printing to truly come of age in the sign and display sector there needs to be full scale, full colour printing with a minimum of post print finishing. Whether this comes from Mimaki, who could probably upscale its current chassis to accommodate large format full colour 3D printing, or a company such as Massivit which could utilise a similar material technology to enable it to deliver full colour printing - who knows?

What you can be certain of is that the next decade is most certainly going to bring about a revolution in 3D printing along the lines that we cannot begin to imagine today.
