By Richard S. Kahn T he first question I am always asked when someone finds out that I am a travel writer is “Where should I go on my next vacation?” The question that usually follows is “What’s hot right now?” Since I have a long-time, ongoing love affair with the Caribbean, it is not hard for me to answer both questions with one word – the Caribbean. (Yes, I know, it’s two words.) If you have never been to the Caribbean, it is a must vacation. The Caribbean is the leading warm weather destination in the world and the Caribbean people welcome visitors with a rich warm smile that rivals the sun that shines so abundantly on its beaches. If you have been there before, even many times before, there is always another island destination to explore and experience and you can even go back to those that you have visited before and you will find new hotels, attractions and restaurants to enjoy. If you are a couple looking for a romantic escape there is no place on earth that offers a more romantic setting with unbelievable sunsets from your beachfront accommodations. If you are a family traveling with children you will find hotels across the region that provide activities for the kids so that parents can escape and enjoy their vacation time. Many hotels also have innovative programs which enable parents to enjoy quality time with their children in fun and interesting activities. If you are an active person or couple and want to explore the land, do get off the beach and you will discover there are treasures to be found in the mountains, rivers and waterfalls in many of the islands. In addition, just off the beach there is an entire world underneath the Caribbean Sea for exploration and enjoyment by both expe- rienced scuba divers as well as the novice snorkeler. The colors of the fish and coral will leave indelible prints on your mind for a long time to come. And, if you really need to get T he Caribbean is not only the leading warm weather destination in the world, it is right now the leading region for value vacations. There are many destin- ations and hundreds of hotels that are ready to welcome you, your family and friends with the warm sun and even warmer smiles that will make you forget everything else. This may be the peak winter season, but there is room at the inn and available accommodations in many of the most sought after hotels and resorts across the Caribbean, even on some of the most popular islands in the region. And peak winter season prices have never been lower. Some destinations have created island-wide promotions like the U.S. Virgin Islands which provides low rates in many of the hotels plus discounts in restaurants, attractions and even the popular shops in Charlotte Amalie. Resorts across the Caribbean are not holding back on the discounts either with many, including the popular Sandals chain, cutting rates as much as 55 percent. Others are giving away one, two or even three nights free depending on how many nights you book at their hotel. Still other resorts are providing a wide variety of free value-added ingredients from special dinners, continental breakfasts, sightseeing tours and even spa treatments to really get you relaxed. Right now, the bottom line is that the Caribbean is providing a lot more vacation for the dollar and that makes a Caribbean peak season vacation a real value that should not be passed up. Throughout the following pages you will find a number of articles outlining the variety of value-added promotions for families, honeymooners, spa goers, scuba divers and others. We expect many more to be issued in the coming weeks and will be reporting these online at www.CaribbeanVacationNews.com as they are issued.
