Where are they in their development?
•Is this their first time getting involved? Or did they play a sport, get involved in high school, or work in the community?
•What leadership opportunities have they experienced? Where they captain of the team? An FFA officer? Where they involved in student government?
•Be Inquisitive: What do they want from their experience?• Where have they been?• Where are they now?• Where do THEY want to go?
** Whether you have 5 students or 50, each one is at a different point along the development spectrum.
Provide Structure
What do I mean by structure?• Hosting retreats
• Retreats are in essence, “focused time on task”• Encouraging meaningful conversation
• Honesty IS STILL the best policy• Social gatherings
• Provide an engaging environment• Goal setting
• For the individual student, for the organization…GOALS are good
• Challenge courses & Teambuilding Activities• Push both individuals and “teams” to problem solve in
“adverse” situations and also provide parallels to be drawn between activities within an organization and on the individual level
