The AEMT has representation on several standards making bodies, committees, working groups, and maintenance teams.

Through the above channels it is possible for the AEMT to contribute and influence the standard making process.
Currently two Explosive Atmospheres Codes of Practice are in the Draft for Public Comment (DPC) stage.
IEC 60079-14, Edition 5, Electrical installations, design, selection and erection. IEC 60079-17, Edition 5, Electrical installations inspection and maintenance.
The AEMT has until 31 October, 2012, to formulate any comments and submit them to BSI as part of a UK response.
The two draft documents have been placed in the Members Area of the AEMT web-site www.aemt.co.uk under IEC/TC2, IEC/TC31, IECEx Standards Work.

EX COURSE DATES Hazardous area site work: Module 5 on is essential for those carrying out site work such as the removal, reinstallation, inspection and maintenance of hazardous area equipment. The course fills a niche for those working in a hazardous area, who may not be 17th edition electricians. It provides the training for BS EN 60079 17 on mainte-nance and inspection, as well as elements of 60079 14 for the installation of equip-ment. Great care is taken in the repair of Ex equipment, which can be of little value if the same degree of competence is not employed, when refitting the equipment on site. This level of competence is now required by the above standards Please contact Jane as soon as possible if you require Hazardous Area Training. The refresher courses are suitable for any person, who has attended the original Module 1 course and has current experience of repairing flameproof motors. Both Module 2 and the Refresher Courses incorporate an assessment of the delegate’s competence and practical ability, when it comes to repairing Hazardous Area Equipment. A “Responsible Person” (i.e. the manager responsible for Ex repairs) should also attend the Hands-on course, to fully understand the responsibilities and procedures required to ensure that safety is not compromised.

Our company specialises in the repair of hazardous area machines; holding the IEC Ex Repair Licence, repairing motors to IEC 60079-19:2010 The successful candidate should have: A good knowledge of repairing ex machines Experience with working on AC/DC Motors up to ten tonnes in weight Proven and previous experience of working in a similar role and should have undergone an apprenticeship; have the ability to lead a team and good communication skills. The Works Manager is expected to work within the team and be “hands on” when required. Knowledge of the computer software package EMIR would be an advantage, but full training would be given. This position reports to the Managing Director. Because we have to handle electric motor breakdown situations, and aid our engineering customers to re-duce their expensive downtime, there is an element of pressure within the winding shop. As such, our work force is called upon to respond quickly. Occasionally this incurs out of hours working.
