Physical Characteristics Of An Aerosol
• Droplet size is the most important factor in the
delivery of the aerosolized drug to the lungs.
• Size of the aerosol droplets is generally
characterized by mass median aerodynamic
diameter (MMAD).
• The size of droplet is not larger than 5µ .23/04/2010

Tamaka Shwasa
• Life threatening disease.
• Affects large population.
• Often results in emergencies.

Role of Aerosols • In ayurveda main concept drug are categorised
on basis of Rasa,Guna,Virya,Vipaka and prabhava.
• It is entirely different from Concept of chemical constituents
• Based on the extract (water or alcohol soluble)• If properly given it shows good therapeutic
effect.• Smaller dose with minimum adverse effect

Research work • On some of the medicinal plants .
• Nicotiana tabacum linn
• Tulasi
• Rota capsule and oral spray from water soluble extract
• Shown results in minute doses
• Due to properties of Nicotiana tabacum linn it can act
fast while giving through inhalation

The devices available
for generation of
aerosols can be
broadly divided into
three categories:
metered dose
inhaler (MDI), dry

and nebulizer.

Conclusion
• Aerosols have the potential to enhance the
potency of Ayurvedic medications.
• Research being carried out to develop aerosols
most suited to Ayurvedic drugs.
