What Is Aerospace Engineering?

• Aerospace engineering is the branch of engineering focused on the design, construction, and testing of aircraft and spacecraft.

• Applies the fascinating science behind the forces of nature and the physical properties of aircraft, rockets, and spacecraft.

• Broken into two major overlapping disciplines: – Aeronautical engineering (for vehicles that stay within Earth’s atmosphere) – Astronautical engineering (for vehicles that travel beyond Earth’s atmosphere).

What Do Aerospace Engineers Do?

• Design, develop, test, and build aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and missiles

• But that is not all:– Study how wind affects a tall skyscraper– Design high-performance cars, boats, trains, and submarines– Travel to other planets

How Do You Become an Aerospace Engineer?

• Get good grades• Take your math and science classes in high school• Choose a college with an accredited engineering degree

program (ie. ABET)• Become involved with local engineering chapters like
