Affiliate Chair Renee Mitchell intro-

duces LA Philharmonic Director of

Community and Government Affairs

Leni Boorstin at a recent Presidents

and Coordinators Board meeting.

Leni Boorstin is one member of the

LA Philharmonic staff who will speak

at the Membership Symposium.

Listening intently to a Strategic Plan presentation at a Presidents and

Coordinators board meeting, the attendees had an opportunity to offer

their own ideas for incorporation into the Plan. During the two-year

development process, the Presidents took the messages to their Com-

mittees’ boards. The members suggestions were incorporated into the

Strategic Plan, which is now finalized.

Pianist Andre Watts began his career in a storybook fashion more

than 45 years ago. When he was 16 years old, Conductor Leonard

Bernstein chose him to make his debut with the New York Philhar-

monic in their Young People’s Concerts, which was broadcast

nationwide on CBS-TV.

Esa-Pekka Salonen is the recipient

of the Siena Prize in 1993; the Royal

Philharmonic Society’s Opera Award

in 1995 and their Conductor Award

in 1997, a French government award

in 1998, and Musical America

magazine named Esa-Pekka Salonen

2006 Musician of the Year.

ference with the National

Performing Arts Convention,

which brought together over

3,600 delegates from the

performing arts world for a
