GROUP SIZEThere is no definition of what a ‘small group’ is so we clearly stateon each of our tours what the maximum group size is. Someoperators consider 40 as a small group. An even more importantissue around group size is the minimum group size for the safari todepart. Normally hidden in the small print, most companies statethat a minimum number of people are required for the safari tooperate but normally do not state what that number is. In somecases it can be up to 10.

We guarantee our small group safaris will operate with a minimumof 2 guests, so you can book with confidence, knowing your safariwill not be cancelled at the last minute leaving you with non-refundable airfares.

SMALL GROUP TOURSWithin our group of brands we have been operating small grouptours to exotic lands for over 35 years. It is this wealth ofknowledge that is brought together in designing our small grouptours and is the core of what we specialise in.

WHY SMALL GROUP?• Fewer people to move around so less time wasted waiting.

• No need for cumbersome head pieces to enable you to hearwhat the guide and escort are saying.

• More access to the guides and escort so you can ask yourquestions or just have a chat.

• More flexibility so improving your enjoyment.

PITFALLS TO WATCH FOR• What you consider as small group is not necessarily what you

will get. If not specifically stated it can be up to 40. We have amaximum group size clearly stated on each of the small grouptours we offer.

• Even more importantly, if they do not openly state it, in the smallprint you will find that the tour will not operate without a minimumnumber of people, sometimes as many as 10. If they cancel thetour they do not accept liability for costs you incur such as non-refundable airfares you may have booked.

We guarantee the departures will not be cancelled due to lownumbers, so if there are 2 (or more) guests booked you can bookwith confidence knowing that your small group safari will depart.

CONCEPTWith over 35 years of experience organising small group tours andour in-depth knowledge of Africa from regular annual visits, we aimto offer you the very best experience available at an all-inclusiveprice.

Why should you have to choose between options? If it is worthdoing we include it! Most meals are also included so the price youpay is pretty much your total cost (assuming you opt in for thefixed airfare package). Naturally purchases of a personal natureare not included.

AGEThere are no age limitations for the tours. As they are not ‘partytours’ and as they require a reasonable level of fitness andmobility, we have found that most guests are aged 35 years andabove and are reasonably active and mobile.

FITNESSBy the nature of the places visited a reasonable amount of mobilityand fitness are required. Having said this, you are not expected tobe able to run a marathon either. If you can climb several flights ofstairs and walk up to 2 kms over uneven ground, at a normal pace, unaided then you should be fine.

Each safari is different and the above is a guide for the moredemanding parts of some tours. You normally have the option ofnot doing the walks if you do not want to.

ESCORTS & COMPONENTSThe different components of each safari are escorted by differentAfrican guides, sometimes assisted by local guides. Thesedifferent components are noted in the itinerary meaning it ispossible the African escort and some of your fellow travellers couldchange throughout the safari.

(BLD)Day 7 Masai Mara - Serengeti National ParkRather than driving all the way back to Nairobiand then crossing into Tanzania before driving allthe way back to the Serengeti over three days andmany bumpy roads, we cross into Tanzania via aborder crossing near Lake Victoria, beforecontinuing to our lodge in Serengeti NationalPark. We complete the trip in one day. (BLD)

On June to Sept departures one night is taken out ofSerengeti and added to Maasai Mara. It is possible toend or start the safari today. Adjusted cost applies.

East Africa is synonymous with the ‘African Safari’. The migration ofmainly wildebeest, zebra and gazelle moves through the Masai Mara inKenya and the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzaniaso no matter what time of the year they will be somewhere within thiscomplex. The migration is never an exact science, as it depends on the rainsbut generally speaking it is in the Masai Mara in July, in the Serengeti in September / October and in the Ndutu Area around March, when thewildebeest calve. This safari is designed to almost guarantee seeing themigration somewhere as we cover all the reserves where the migrationpasses through along with other places of interest such as the Aberdare,Lake Nakuru, Tarangire and Amboseli National Parks. Our most popularsafari and for good reason.

Asyou fly over the Delta you witness the convolutedwaterways and the ever-changing colours. (D)There is an infinite variety of lodges all offering adifferent experience but basically they can bedivided into 3 categories: those that are mainlyland based; those that vary between land andwater depending on the season; and finally, thosethat have permanent water where the activitiesare water based. The land based activities areusually conducted by open safari vehicle and tendto see more “big game” but lack the mokoro andboat experiences. The mixed lodges normally givethe best mix of activities but this varies by seasonand by year, so it is very difficult to be at a specificlodge when the conditions are perfect for bothwater and land activities. The water based lodgesgive a very ‘Okavango Delta experience’, glidingsilently through the flowing channels. Normallythe viewing is of small creatures like frogs andbirds but it is all about the total experience. Our advice, if your budget allows, is to visit aminimum of two different lodges, each for aminimum of two nights. We would select onewater based and one land based. Flights are veryexpensive so this is a more expensive way ofvisiting but it is a very rewarding one and one werecommend. If your time or budget is limited, wesuggest selecting one of the combined water andland lodges and if possible spending 3 nights.

Day 2 Okavango DeltaDepending on the lodge selected, activities onoffer may include mokoro trips with game walks, bush walks, sunset motorboat cruises, fishing(seasonal) or game drives both during the day andsometimes at night. (BLD)Day 3 Okavango Delta - Linyanti, Moremi or

Chobe National Park lodgeLater today you are taken by light aircraft fromthe Okavango Delta to your next lodge, either inLinyanti, Moremi or Chobe National Park. (BLD)Here we would suggest a more land-based lodgethat offers game drives, etc to add to your “biggame” list of wildlife experiences in the OkavangoDelta. Some of the animals to be seen in the Deltaare only found there. Just because you are doinggame drives at lodges in other parts of Africa doesnot necessarily mean you should not do themhere, as the experience will probably be verydifferent to that in the Delta and elsewhere.Day 4 LodgeYou spend a final full day exploring the area insearch of the varied wildlife that call the regionhome. (BLD)Day 5 Lodge - Kasane or MaunThis morning you fly by light aircraft to eitherKasane or Maun Airport, depending on what youare doing next. (B)We have extensive experience in the area and so arewell placed to suggest where to go and at what timeto meet you viewing and budget expectations.
