2004 Dj Tira formed Durbans Finest together with Dj Sox a DJduo which threw parties around the city of durban making surethere is entertainment galore come weekend or during festiveseason.

We offered entertainment to big events event like the July

handicap, after parties of big football matches and we madesure the vibe is alive for a young person.

For our business to be organised we had to register a companyto manage artists, do events and later record album artists

Then Afrotainment was born. Soon after that, everyone started saying mawufuna ubumnandi

Woze Durban. While performing around Durban, Dj Tiradiscovered Tzozo En Professor but at that time Afrotainment

didnt have capacity to record an artist then signed the artiststo a Joburg record company Kalawa Jazmee Records the stableof Mafikizolo and Bongo Maffin.

We then started small by recording Durbans Finest vol1 which

was a big success until we saved enough money to build qualityrecording studios.

Up and Down Stage Play This is a stage play we developed, to make awareness about

youth involvement in drugs, unsafe sex, crime and unemployment.

The stage play was successfully launched in 2006 at StableTheater but it never went any futher due to unavailability offunds. The dream was to take the stage play around the countryand hopeful overseas.

The dances on the play are the only part of the play that havekept us going since they get booked once in a while, for thosewho saw the opening of this exhibition, dance performanceswere done by Up and Down.

A lot of credit must be given to Thami Zondi from Dept ofEconomic Development who sponsored the launch and also invitedus here.

Its been difficulty with organizations and companies not understanding

how you can take a township youth mix with kwaito music and get goodbusiness. There is too many hungry people wanting to get into the industry for

wrong reasons because they see it as an easy way of making a career, thisresult in youth droping out of school which we strongly discourage, im a

University of Natal graduate with Human Resource degree. I know beingeducated opens a lot of doors. At last we have earned respect, recognized as business people, by

communicating with society through music, doing music with positivemessage, families have been able to survive through this industry.

We try by all means to get talent from KZN as a whole, give opportunitiesto people to make something from talent they have but we can do so muchat one point before we overload ourselves with too much work that willlead to poor production and lots of debts.

For KZN music industry we are still a long way home since no album cansuccessfully hit the shelves without the help from a Joburg company. Thiscosts us a lot but its the only way (for now).

Questions-At first asking for funds to support such a business was a missionimpossible, looking at the high risk of such a business no onecould trust we can pull this through. I must say we didnt try hard

though but Im glad we survived the storm

-I wouldnt say it could have performed better but things couldhave happened a little more faster and at a bigger scale which

means we could have empowered a lot more people

    1. Identify market2. Financial responses3. Discipline

3.1 They readily available but conditions attached make it hard fora person for example in rural areas.

-Recently yes but they more accessible for people in urban areas,

its harder for people in rural areas to access them.
