AGENDA ITEM: Superintendent's Report
SUBMITTED BY: Gary Bruntz
TYPE OF ACTION: Report __X__ Discussion_____ Action_____
SUMMARY OF ISSUE:
School has started with all classes PreK- College classes underway along with all fall sports
and activities. It has been a smooth start to the new school year. Early enrollment numbers
are much higher than at the end of last year but at the beginning of the year they tend to
fluctuate greatly. At the very beginning we had 71 new students enroll and some
disenrollment. Again this will fluctuate more in the next couple of weeks but as of last week,
we were plus 30 district-wide. Funding is calculated by the number of students enrolled at
the October count so by then it has usually stabilized and doesn’t change much after that.
The directors will be giving their reports of their summer activities later in the meeting.
Generally at this meeting we have the District and School Performance frameworks, which is
the school’s report card but because of the change to the CMAS and PARCC tests, new norms
and growth data from CDE are going to take longer so those reports will come later in the
year.
The district has received our preliminary assessed values from the 3 counties (Morgan, Weld,
Adams) and it was just shy of $181 million. Morgan went up slightly, Adams was down
slightly and Weld is down about 9%. We had anticipated Weld being down as much as 40%.
It is preliminary at this time but it does look like we will again be relying on state equalization
funding and incurring some of the negative factor. We will not be sure until December.

AGENDA ITEM: National FFA Trip
SUBMITTED BY: Rockie Ernst, FFA Sponsor
TYPE OF ACTION: Report ____ Discussion ____ Action __X___
SUMMARY OF ISSUE:
Members of the Wiggins FFA will be attending the 89th National FFA Convention
held in Indianapolis, Indiana. I plan on taking FFA members. Interviews and final
selection will be taking place on Thursday evening, Sept. 1st.
Each member must have met the qualifications and have been interviewed in
order to be selected through the Ag Ed Advisory Committee. We plan to leave on
Tuesday, October 18th and return on Sunday, October 23rd. Rhonda Eklund will
attend as a chaperone and likely a driver if needed.
Members attending will hear National FFA Officers retiring remarks, participate in
the Career Show, attend leadership and personal development workshops and
tour selected businesses and industries.
We had the State Winning Agronomy Team that will compete at Nationals as well.
Members on the team are Roxanne Bashor, Rachel Columbia, Bailey Eklund and
Charlee Teague. This is a great honor for these girls and our program!!
We are asking for approval for out of state travel from the school board to attend.
We are asking for the school to assist in funding at least a small portion of this trip
by covering the cost of a vehicle while we are back there. We will need one
vehicle to travel to DIA where we will plan to fly into Indianapolis and rent a
vehicle to get around to the Judging Contest sites, Convention Center and to our
hotel and various tours while we are there. We will be utilizing some of the
budgeted funds from the Ag Ed Field Trips/Registration Account, as in past years.
We realize that any additional expenses will be the responsibility of the Wiggins
FFA Chapter and the members attending.
This has proven to be one of the most educational activities a member
participates in through out high school. I’m certain these members will gain a lot
from it as others have in the past.
