Easy-to-Use Software Solution for Automatic Testing The Agilent Technologies 11807A radio test software is an easy-to-use software solution for automatic testing of radio transceivers with the Agilent 8920A test set. The 11807A offers a complete selection of tests on EPROM memory cards for land mobile radios, cellular phones, and communications systems. The 11807E radio test software is designed to run on the 8920B RF communications test set from PCM- CIA memory cards. The flexibility and modularity of the 11807A/E radio test software allows you to change the tests to be run, test parameters, test frequencies, and pass/fail limits by filling in sim- ple on-screen menus. Test conditions for different radios can be stored on memory cards and are easily loaded for testing. Radio ManufacturingThe operating speed of Agilent11807A/E radio test software makesit useful for production environments.

With pass/fail readouts and typicaltest times of one to two minutes withquick general tests, your productionline can cut test time and increaseyour confidence that all radios aremeeting specification.

All parameters, specifications, andtest conditions for a particular typeor model of radio can be stored andidentified with a single file name.Changing radio parameters and testconditions is as simple as entering a new file name. Compared to the8920A and stand-alone instruments,the 8920B using 11807E software isthe fastest test set for manufacturingand service.

Radio ServiceThe Agilent 11807A/E softwareallows technicians to automaticallyperform radio checkout and final test with documented results. Select from Flexible Testing Modes

Quick Functional or Full ParametricTestingQuick functional RX and TX testing is available for fast radio characteri-zation. By selecting the quick func-tional RX or TX tests, your transceivercan be characterized in one to twominutes with documented pass/failresults. Quick functional tests can be performed on a single channel ormultiple channels.

Full parametric testing is availablefor more complete characterization of your transceiver. A complete list of individual tests is available. Selectand run only those tests you need toperform on your transceiver. Para-metric tests can also be performed ona single channel or multiple channels.

Set Your Own Pass/Fail LimitsA comprehensive specifications fileallows you to completely define thestandards to which each transceiveris tested. The program automaticallydoes pass/fail testing according to the upper and lower limits entered in the specifications table. It can beconfigured to continue or stop on a radio failure, and print all resultsor just the failures.

Multiple Test FrequenciesFor multichannel radios, up to fiftysets of test frequencies may be speci-fied. If multiple channels are beingtested, a program prompt will guidethe technician to set the radio to theappropriate channel being tested.Separate RX and TX entries simplifyautomatic testing of duplex radios.

Manual Cellular Phone TroubleshootingIn addition to quick functional andfull parametric testing for cellularphones, manual phone troubleshoot-ing is also available with the Agilent11807A/E software.

Using the on-screen flowchart pro-gram, you can troubleshoot a phoneas it gains access to a system andwhile on a voice or a digital trafficchannel. Once a voice or traffic channel is assigned, you can test

functions of the phone normally performed during use, includinghandoffs, power-level changes, andreleases.

At each stage, RECC or RVC ordersare displayed for analysis, along withmeasurements of power, frequencyerror, deviation (for analog voicechannel), and EVM (for digital trafficchannels).

While on an analog voice channel, you can change SAT/DSAT, test DTMFtones, perform a maintenance checkof the phone’s signaling tone frequencyand deviation, and test hook flashnumbers.

While on a digital traffic channel, you can perform channel qualitymeasurements, make talkback tests,and measure EVM. This provides you with additional operating infor-mation that can aid in troubleshoot-ing a phone.

Using the on-screen flowchart program, you can troubleshoot a phone as it gains access to a system, and while on a voice or a digital traffic channel.

TDMA Dual-Mode Cellular PhonesThe 11807E software provides a comprehensive set of tests for TDMANorth American dual-mode cellularphones, including new 11807E soft-ware for DCCH (IS-136) phones. All11807E dual-mode packages includecomplete digital call processing testssuch as digital-to-digital handoff, call processing talkback, page, origi-nation, and release. Digital transmit-ter tests for error vector magnitude,

phase and magnitude error, adjacentchannel power, and I/Q origin offsethave adjustable pass-fail limits andtest conditions to simplify DAMPS/DCCH phone testing.

Documented Test ResultsA concise, easy-to-read printoutaccompanies all radio tests if anexternal printer is added. The testname is displayed along with meas-ured values, test limits, and a pass/fail statement. This not only tells if the radio passed or failed, but how close it was to its limit.

A date and time statement is given on all printouts, and comments may beadded to help identify the printout.

Store Test ProceduresAll test sequences, frequencies, radioparameters, and specifications can bestored on a memory card or externaldisk drive. These files can be storedusing the model number of the radioor any other text string. Later, whenyou recall this file, you are ready totest the radio again without any fur-ther data entry or changes.

The Agilent 11807A/E software canbe modified to quickly develop testfiles for your radios.

Store Test ResultsThe 11807A/E also allows you to saveyour test results for future retrieval.All information that is normally sentto your printer when testing a radiocan also be sent to RAM memorycards, external disk drives (DOS orLIF format), and the RS-232 port.

No programming knowledge is necessary to set up andchange test files for your radio.

Option 100—System Support TestsThe Agilent11807A/E system supporttests provide technicians with auto-mated test capability for commonlyperformed tasks on communicationssystems. System support tests includecable fault location, intermodulationproducts calculation, frequency scan-ning, and field strength measurement.

Cable Fault LocationThe cable fault location program con-tains two tests: a test setup diagramand a cable fault locator that automat-ically detects cable faults or breaks.The results are shown in a graphicalform of relative mismatch versus dis-tance, facilitating quick identificationof a fault. Numerical results can bedisplayed in meters or feet. More than 100 different cable types can beselected, or you can enter the velocityof propagation for your particularcable directly. Cable fault locationmeasurements can typically be madeup to 500 feet on low loss cables andup to 300 feet on higher loss cables.Resolution of the fault location is 0.4feet for cable lengths up to 50 feet; it then linearly increases to 4 feet fora 500 foot cable.

An external power divider and 50-ohm load are required to makethis measurement.

Intermodulation Products CalculationThis program (calculate intermods)automatically calculates and displaysintermodulation products to the fifthorder. Products that are at the samefrequency as the receive frequencyare identified. The program will acceptup to 20 transmitter frequencies and1 receive frequency for the calculation.This program can be used to helpdetermine the cause of unwantedinterference at an antenna site. Thisallows you to provide the customerswith quality, reliable communications.

Frequency ScannerWith the frequency scanning program(scanner), the 8920 test set automati-cally scans up to 100 frequencies. Whena signal is found, it will display the fre-quency, and the recovered audio canbe monitored on the speaker. Enteredfrequencies can be labeled with a textname, which is also displayed.

Field Strength MeasurementWith this program, the 8920 willmake field strength measurements for a specified measurement plan. It contains two tests: measure testplan and print stored measured data.The plan may contain up to 22 fre-quencies to be measured at up to 22different locations. Results are dis-played in minimum peak and average

power measured for each frequencyat a given location. This can be usedto determine coverage of antennasites so that you can improve thequality of service to your customers.

Automated Save/RecallSometimes it is necessary to save sev-eral files from the test set to a RAMcard to preserve data or setups exter-nal to the instrument. Depending onthe number of files, manually savingand recalling one file at a time backand forth between the RAM card andthe test set can be a very time con-suming and tedious process. TheSave/Recall feature will automaticallytransfer data, allowing the user amethod of easily and quickly down-loading saved files to a RAM card.
