AGM and Forging New Links Rated “A Smashing Success”
SCMANB hosted the 2016 Annual General Meeting at Fredericton’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday,
October 20, followed the next morning with the fourth annual Forging New Links provincial conference.
The highlight of the AGM was the recognition of four new SCMP graduates, and the presentation of
their SCMP Certificates by SCMANB Registrar Art Smith SCMP, and National CEO and President Cheryl
Farrow.

The AGM also saw the election, by acclamation, of the 2016-17 Board of Directors (see separate story),
as well as an entertaining and informative presentation from Stephen Dixon, owner of Grimross Craft
Brewery.

Volunteer Challenge
SCMANB is issuing a challenge to all members:
GET INVOLVED !!
Your local Institute, SCMANB, is your local
connection for your professional development
and representation.
SCMANB provides education opportunities, for
professional development. It also provides a
growing number of events, which as well as
providing different skills and experience, also
offers invaluable opportunities for you to grow
your contacts network.
SCMANB is familiar with the challenges that
members face in finding time to “pitch in”.
Today’s young professionals are drawn in many
different directions due to career, family and
other interest commitments.
To help make a “modest commitment” to your
association a possible consideration, SCMANB is
changing its approach – operational
requirements are being reorganized into
Standing Committee groupings. The
commitment term, and the time required,
should be less than previous commitments to a
Director’s position.
We are asking members -- especially designates
– to consider volunteering for one of the
committees. Currently, the Education and
Accreditation Committee, the Membership,
Program and Marketing and Communications
Committees are seeking members. The Ethics
committee is fully populated.
Committees will meet, normally, at the call of
their Chair, and that will be three to four times
per year.
Committee members make a valuable
contribution to the success and vibrancy of our
Institute. They also form stronger networks
with their peers and gain valuable experience.
SCMP Designates will also earn CPD credits for
their participation.
Your association can use your support. Get
involved !! Contact Wendy Piercy, at 506-458-
9414, or [email protected].
Forging New Links delegates listen to Dora Nicinski’s presentation to start the day at the 2016 conference.
Forging New Links 2016
A record attendance enjoyed the fourth annual
Forging New Links provincial conference, held
recently in the capital city.
A number of Supply Chain & Logistics students
from the Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton
campuses of Eastern College helped swell the
numbers taking in this year’s event to over fifty.
The agenda for the day included a presentation
on “The Leadership and Coaching Link” by
Margie Hammond and Dora Nicinskin. Kevin
O’Reilly shared insights on dealing with
international suppliers, then turned the lens
back towards New Brunswick to relate how the
trade challenges can be overcome.
Jacques Fournier shared important insights to
New Brunswick’s Air Cargo sector. As Director of
Commercial Development for the Moncton
International Airport Authority, ... continued

he holds an obvious bias, but he shared
information on ways that all Atlantic Canada
can benefit from increased air cargo capacity,
and developing cargo handling excellence.
SCMA National President and CEO, Cheryl
Farrow provided two presentations – an update
on events and developments at the National
level, as well as an interesting presentation on
“Growing Your Professional Reputation”. The
day’s schedule was wrapped up with a dynamic
presentation called “Introduction to
Performance Excellence”, by Jennifer Kikkert,
of Simplicity Organizational Designs.
Interspersed between sessions and nutrition
and meal breaks, delegates had many
opportunities to visit the suppliers’ exhibition
hall, making important contacts and – again –
developing network connections.
One of the more sombre tones of the event was
the fact that this event marked the final visit
from Cheryl Farrow, who is taking leave from
SCMA to take on new opportunity with the
Canadian Bar Association, in Ottawa. SCMANB
took the opportunity to present Cheryl with
some appreciation, farewell remembrances of
New Brunswick.
Cheryl Farrow, right, admires a “gag” portion of her gifts. During several Outreach visits to the province, she often asked, “Does every road in NB lead to Miramichi?” The sign-post seems to indicate so.
SCMANB Directors Acclaimed
The 2016 Annual General Meeting was held in Fredericton on October 20, 2016. Among other items of business, the 2016-17 Board of Directors was acclaimed as nominated. Your Board will consist of Bill O’Donnell SCMP as in-coming President, Ryan MacPherson SCMP, Past President, Chris Roberts SCMP, Vice-President, Art Smith SCMP, Registrar, Greg Bryden SCMP, Treasurer, and Tony Waddell, Secretary. As reported earlier in this issue, the reduced Board will be relying on support from energized committees, and support from the general membership. See the “Volunteer Challenge” for additional information. The highlight of the AGM was the presentation of the 2016 SCMP Certificates to four honorees: Monica Brewer SCMP, Gregory Laprise SCMP, Timothy Morrison SCMP and Lori Piper SCMP. Certificates were presented by Registrar Art Smith SCMP, and SCMA President and CEO Cheryl Farrow.
Local entrepreneur Stephen Dixon, owner/operator of Grimross Craft Brewery, provided an animated and entertaining presentation.
The guest speaker for the evening was local business owner Stephen Dixon, who provided an entertaining perspective on the importance of supply chain – and the lack of skills – for many small business operators.
