Soil degradation is an issue in South Africa and its on the increase, especially in low income chopping areas. The mining and coal burning industries in Gauteng and Mpumalanga cause acidification and pollution of soils. Soil fertility degradation is serious in small scale farming areas and also in some commercial cropping areas.

Improving the skill level of the agriculture workforce is essential to enhancing innovation, strengthening competitiveness, boosting resilience and developing a larger capacity for the agriculture industry to capitalize on opportunities and contribute to global food security.

The soil degradation presents an opportunity for inventors to come up with effective ways to test soil fertility in areas where labs for soil testing lack. There are three commonly known methods of testing soil in South Africa which are the squeeze test, the ribbon test and the jar test. According to our research, there are no portable effective soil testing equipment manufactured in South Africa just yet.

More money needs to be invested in training young black farmers if the country is serious about transforming this sector and dealing with high unemployment. This duty does not lie with the government alone, it is the responsibility of all who have a voice society, including the financial services sector, which has the funding key to making the fertile land more productive.

• When talking soil, a little knowledge goes a long way, most important for urban farmers is recongnizing your soil type and its health. Some soils are naturally fertile and need little altering, but others need an overhaul. Urban soils have special considerations you need to know about. Certain contaminants like lead and other hazardous susbstances are potential pollutants in some city soils. Testing can you whether you have any cause for concern. Just like plants and people , soils have different characteristics that make them unique. Knowing the kind of soil you have helps you determine its strengths and weaknesses. While soil is composed of many elements, the place to begin is with you soil type.

• Methods of determining soil type takes up to 5 to 7 days which is not effective to a farmer who plans to plant immediately. Our device will be an electronic soil tester which will include an optical soil tester chamber, LED test result indicator, pH Test result indicators, Nutrient specific push-button soil test, and Nitrogen phosphorus test result indicators. This digital soil test kit is designed to make soil testing easier than ever.

Our target market will not only be farmers but farm equipment sellers as well Since there is a shortage of skills in South African farmers this device will be the

ultimate solution to the challenge faced by the sector. XYZ electro kit offers immediate results unlike waiting for test results from the lab. There are many farming equipment suppliers in South Africa supplying a range of

different agricultural equipment but not the device we plan to supply.

Firstly we will have to create the companies image by means of a corporate identity simply meaning brand ourselves to fit the market. Brands distinguish competitors.

When the branding phase has been complete, aligning our logo and slogan to our ethics and values, than we will be able to move to branding and packaging our products which will lead to promotional material, websites, social media, ads, etc.

Our product will be found in our outlet stores and other similar outlets, it can also be purchased online with free delivery within our operating parameters
