CEO’S STATEMENT
Making a difference is what drives me and Agriculture House Team.
What I cherish most about Agriculture House is the contribution we are making in
improving the lives of the farming communities, small and medium-scale farmers
in KwaZulu-Natal.
We have provided advise and facilitated access to stable market to more than 200
farmers in KwaZulu-Natal. Without such a market, these farmers would still be
losing their products, with no growth prospects.
I am grateful to retailers that are buying agricultural products from Agriculture
House and the willingness from Government to support these farmers. This has
created sustainable job opportunities to several poor rural families.
Mr Sifiso Myeni – CEO & Founder
Sifiso has over 20 years of experience in agribusiness
value chain development. He is a hands on leader
who motivates the team to drive Agriculture House
to success.

MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS Due diligence (DD) is an extensive process undertaken in order to thoroughly and completely assess the performance of a business prior investment, purchase
or review. It involves assessing target company's business, assets, capabilities and financial performance. It is an investigation, audit, or review performed to
confirm the facts of a matter under consideration.
Common DD types conducted by Agriculture House are:
1. Administrative DD is the aspect of due diligence that involves verifying admin-related items.
2. Financial DD seeks to check whether the financials are accurate or not. Financial DD aims to provide a thorough understanding of all the company’s
financials, including, but not restricted to, financial statements, projections and the basis of such projections, capital expenditure plan, debtors and creditors,
etc. The financial due diligence process also involves analysis of major customer accounts, fixed and variable cost analysis, analysis of profit margins, and
examination of internal control procedures. It also examines the company’s order book and sales pipeline to create better (more accurate) projections.
3. Asset DD examines the schedule of fixed assets and their locations, all lease agreements for equipment, a schedule of sales and purchases of major capital
equipment, real estate deeds, mortgages, title policies, and use permits.
4. Human Resources DD includes the analysis of all human resources related aspects such as total number of employees, salary / wage bill, the skills within
the company, HR policies, compliance with labour laws etc.
5. Environmental DD this part of the Due process is related to environmental regulation and the company’s compliance to such regulation. This also include
reviewing and validation of permits and licenses.
6. Taxes DD is a review of all taxes the company is required to pay and ensuring their proper calculation with no intention of under-reporting of taxes
including verifying whether there are any tax-related case pending with the tax authorities.
7. Intellectual Property DD assessment of intangible assets that differentiates the company’s products and services from its competitors such as patents,
copyrights etc.
8. Legal DD typically includes examination of the all contracts and agreements of the business including board and shareholders minutes of the meetings.
9. Customers DD or Clients’ DD includes a close look at the current and potential company’s customer base and their purchase pattens.
10. Strategic Fit DD is about evaluating the relevance of the company in the broader market and industry.

MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
Financial Modelling is the task of building an abstract representation of a real world financial situation. This is a mathematical model designed to represent the
performance of a financial asset or portfolio of a business, project, enterprise or any other investment. Agriculture House has developed a number of financial
models for internal use and for its clients. The common financial models are:
1. Three Statement Model
2. Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Model
3. Merger & Acquisition Model (M&A)
4. Leveraged Buyout (LBO) Model
5. Sum of the Parts Model
6. Consolidation Model
7. Enterprise Budget Model
8. Forecasting Model
9. Option Pricing Model
Production System and Management Modelling is the set of interconnected input-output elements and is made up of three component parts namely inputs,
process and outputs. It is comprised of multidimensional components and drivers that interact in complex ways to influence production sustainability. Agriculture
House uses different types of modelling for each type of production system and area.
Business evaluation is the process of determining the economic worth of an asset or company under certain assumptions and limiting conditions. We use any
of three types of business valuation approaches:
• Asset-based approach
• Market approach
• Income approach

MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
Project implementation is the project execution phase. Agriculture House uses a number of management tools techniques to execute projects. The commonly
used are:
Classic technique – This traditional technique includes preparing a plan of upcoming work, estimating tasks to perform, allocating resources, providing and
getting feedback from the team, and monitoring quality and deadlines.
Waterfall technique - This technique is also considered traditional, but it takes the simple classic approach to the new level. As its name suggests, the technique
is based on the sequential performance of tasks. The next step starts when the previous one is accomplished. To monitor progress and performed steps, Gantt
charts are often used, as they provide a clear visual representation of phases and dependencies.
Agile Project Management this method is a set of principles based on the value-centered approach. It prescribes dividing project work into short sprints, using
adaptive planning and continual improvement, and fostering teams’ self-organization and collaboration targeted to producing maximum value. Agile frameworks
include such techniques as Scrum, Kanban, DSDM etc.
Rational Unified Process (RUP) is a framework designed for software development teams and projects. It prescribes implementing an iterative development
process, where feedback from product users is considered for planning future development phases.
Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is one of widely used approaches in various areas. It involves complex and detailed planning, and visual
tracking of work results on PERT charts. Its core part is the analysis of tasks performed within the project.
Critical Path Technique is an algorithm for scheduling and planning project works that is often used in conjunction with the PERT method discussed above. This
technique involves detecting the longest path (sequence of tasks) from the beginning to the end of a project, and defining the critical tasks. Critical are tasks that
influence the deadlines of the entire project, and require closer attention and thorough control.
Extreme Project Management it is focused on human factor in project management rather than on formal methods and rigid phases.
Business Planning is process of determining a commercial enterprise's objectives, strategies and projected actions in order to promote its survival and
development within a given time frame. The outcome of the business planning process is the business plan which is a document that summarizes the operational
and financial objectives of a business and contains the detailed plans and budgets showing how the objectives are to be realized. To-date Agriculture House has
developed a handful of bankable business plans for commercial high impact strategic initiatives.

MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
Training and Mentorship – Agriculture House has partnered with several training providers that offer accredited training courses. These providers provide
prescribe training to all Agriculture House clients. Mentorship is provided by industry experts within Agriculture House and independent partners.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)- projects are unique in design, implementation and objectives. Agriculture House develops M&E framework for each project
implemented.
Turnaround and restructuring management is the process of transforming a loss-making enterprise into a profit-making. It is the renewal aimed at saving
straggling farming entities and to rectifying deficiencies in operations that will ultimately lead to a profit generating situation. Restructuring refers to the
rearrangement of financial obligations of the business to lessen its financial burden or improve performance.
Social Facilitation – is educational community engagement aimed at soliciting buy-ins in projects and to promote collaboration amongst community members
themselves, community and other stakeholders in projects. Agriculture House used various social facilitation techniques.
Agro-cluster is a concept of farming based on collaboration, sharing of production resources and infrastructure, markets and technical expertise by a group of
producers. The overall aim is to promote competitiveness and to maximize benefits associated with economies of scale. Agriculture House is the leader in South
Africa in agro-cluster formation and has developed tools and techniques for agro-cluster development.
Agri-Hub – is a secondary agricultural production centre established for value addition of various primary products from within the same locality or region. Agri-
Hubs act as a conduit to markets by providing support to primary producers to maintain or improve supply of raw primary products for value addition. Agri-hubs
are also an integral part of maturing agro-clusters and value chain development. Agriculture House has vast experience in the establishment of Agri Food Hubs
and the team has contributed in several research papers in the concept of Agri Food Hubs including establishment.
Agri-Value Chains - is the flow of agricultural primary products from producers to end users. As the products progress from producers, they are being
transformed into different forms until they reach the end state or final product. Agriculture House has developed tools and techniques for mapping and
establishing various agri-value chains.
Sector and Market Intelligence - means having an in-depth understanding of the sector and be able to analyse and interpret most recent data regarding the
sector and its various sub-sectors for planning and decision making. Agriculture House is providing this service to few of its clients wanting to invest in this sector.
The data ranges from technical, policies, international trade to markets’ related data.

MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
• Agriculture House has developed customized ICT software solutions for the group and customers. The software is called The Agri Smart Pro, with versions 1
to 3. These applications can manage various agricultural value chains i.e. from farmer, logistics to markets etc
• Agriculture House has also developed Smart Data Base for Farmers used as a planning and monitoring tool for production on farms.
• Agri-Smart Pro is a custom software designed to meet specific business and operational needs.
• Every business has its own unique requirements, it is challenging to solve multiple tasks in one product. So, developing custom software is always a solution
because it can fulfil multiple functions than a standard software.
• This software has the following capabilities:
1. Adaptability
ASP is flexible and adaptable to each unique business environment, which allows the system to meet any company’s requirements present and in future (the
system will never be out-dated or obsolete)
2. Secured Data Management
ASP is able to keep any form of data such as full profile of a farmer, maps, business plans, registration documents, IDs, financial records, reports, bank statements,
photos etc.
3. Security (SSL Certificate)
The system is safe and secured better than most standard software. This ensures that clients / farmers information is kept safe. In addition, users are also given
different user rights i.e. some users will only see what is relevant to them whilst others will see everything in the system.
4. Data Recovery
No user can delete information on the system. Even if something gets deleted, we can be able to retrieve it and restore in the system. Only system administrators
can be able to remove any piece of information.

5. Audit Ready M&E Tool
The system is audit ready, it can be used as a monitoring and evaluation tool e.g. it can generate reports on total agricultural land in the province or specific
areas, land under production, type of farming operations, number of jobs created, types of support provided (financial and non-financial support), it can also
assist in sharing information, etc.
6. Scalable
The software is developed for the long-term plans and we can conveniently scale this software to meet the business requirements. i.e. currently 10 000 users can
work on the system without any problems or system getting slow. We can also scale this up to 50 000 or 10 000 users, even more.
7. Support
There is always technical support plan which is a significant benefit from a custom application. Businesses can have access to support team involved in the
processes of developing the application. All the issues can be solved efficiently. Depending on the number of users the plan is to set-up a 24/7 call centre for the
system.
8. Business Process Simplified
The system is designed to simplify any business process. e.g. the system can be customised such that farmers can apply for support from online and do
everything in the system etc.
“There is no system like this in the entire country. Departments of Agriculture (KZN DARD), DAFF and DRDLR (national) do not have smart data base
for farmers (they are still using excel spread sheets)”
“eThekwini Municipality is the first municipality in the country that has this software. The software was interrogated by IT department within the
Municipality and it complies with IT standards and policies of the municipality.”
