Agroforestry SectionObjectives
To improve agricultural productivity tree- crop interaction studies. To study prevailing agroforestry systems in the country. To identify species for higher fodder yield and To optimize fodder yield through research.
Ongoing Activities
3. Study on horti-pasture agroforestry model in leasehold forestry
Objective: To study the production of different
varieties of fruits under pasture condition to fulfill the basic need of local people in leasehold forest.
Study Site: Hardikhola Leasehold Forest and Gaidatar Leasehold Forest, Ambukhaireni-9 Tanahu district.
Established year: 2064/065.Findings:Limitation: Presence of huge human interference,
hence real production from this study was not recorded.
The agro-forestry section conducts research on different fodder species, trees and agriculture crops. The section plans to introduce new agro-forestry system that include cash crops in order to bring economic returns to farmers . Currently the section is conducting a study on suitability of horti-silvo pasture, agro-horticulture model and kadam + NTFPs interaction study with the participation of farmers and leasehold groups.
1. Study on horti-silvo pasture agroforestry model in leasehold forest
Objective: To study the land management system for the current production of fruits, trees and grass with grass to provide fruits , fuel and grass requirements of the local people.
Study Site: Shris Ghari Leasehold Forest User group at Ampghari, Kavre Palanchowk district.
Established year: 2064/065Duration : 5 years.Findings: First year yield;
-Grass production ( 40 ton/ha).-Fruit production (25kg or 1.5kg/tree )
2. Study on ‘production of piper longum (pipla) under different canopy cover of
Acrocarpus fraxinifolious (kadam) plantation.
Objective: To study interaction effect of Pipla
production under different canopy cover of Kadam
Study Site:Yogikuti Butwal, Rupandehi district.
Established year: 2062/063.Findings :
Survival percent and growth rate of Kadam is satisfactory while fruiting of Pipla is not satisfactory.sown on other sites.
