    Ahmed Akbar Sobhan (born on 15 February 1952), is a Bangladeshi business magnate. He is the

    Chairman of the business conglomerate "Bashundhara Group".[1] Being an optimistic and visionary

    businessman,he foundedBashundhara Group,which is operating in various lines of activities including

    real estate,cement manufacturing, paper and allied products, steel products,LP Gas,Shopping Complex,

    local and international trading. Bashundhara,a found name inBangladesh, is one of the most valuable

    companies by market value and the second-largestBangladeshi company by turnover.

    Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was born in Islampur of old Dhaka City area. He is the youngest son of Alhaj

    Abdus Sobhan, a lawyer atDhaka High Court,and Umme Kulsum. He has a brother and four sisters and

    hails from a distinguished family. He was graduated from theUniversity of Dhaka in Business Studies. In

    his student life, he was asportsman and one of the fittest in his batch.

    In 1978, Mr. Sobhan started business enterprise in the service sector along with commercialtrading in the domestic front. The journey of the Group was started with the establishment of its

    mother company in the fashion of East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd., popularly knownas "Bashundhara Housing". Since its inception and until now, it is maintaining the quality of its

    service as well as the trust of its target group.

    Despite many adversities and ups and downs, he has become the father of a giant in group of

    enterprises consisting of nearly three dozen moderate to heavy ventures steel and engineering,

    paper, tissue, cement, LP Gas, sanitary napkin, multi-paper, dredging, shipping, food andbeverage, galvanized iron pipe, etc. These enterprises have contributed to cut down the

    dependence of Bangladesh on import of its covered sectors significantly. Under his able

    leadership over the years, Bashundhara Group has successfully implemented a well-designedcorporate management structure with clearly defined responsibilities and delegation of authority

    for project implementation keeping the track of accountability.

    Diversity in business and entrepreneurship helped the group to become the leader. The groupnow directly employing a workforce of more than 50 thousand and indirectly covered livelihood

    of more than half a million of people. Each year, the group contributes a significant amount in

    the national exchequer through payment ofVAT,duties and other form oftaxes.For many years,the country regarded this Group as one of the highest tax payers of it.

    Mr. Sobhan endorsed different development tasks for thegroup under the coverage ofcorporate

    social responsibility (CSR). His social responsibilities often transcends borders.[2]

    He is also

    actively associated with various socio cultural andhumanitarian activities for the development of

    thesociety as well as of the common people.[3]

    Bashundhara Group established twowelfare foundations,which have been working tirelessly forthe betterment of the poor and underprivileged folks of this country. These two foundations havebeen living up toBashundhara'spromise of "For the people, for the country"
