AIDS Project Worcester/All Care Pharmacy
“A mutually beneficial partnership”
What is AIDS Project Worcester?
AIDS Project Worcester is a nonprofit organization in Central MA dedicated to ending the HIV/AIDS
pandemic and fostering wellness through service, advocacy, prevention, education, and collaborative initiatives. We empower and enhance the lives of
people infected and affected by HIV/ AIDS by fighting stigma and discrimination and through individualized services and best practices in a supportive, multicultural setting . Starting 22
years ago, AIDS Project Worcester is one of the oldest AIDS service organizations in the country.
What is AllCare Pharmacy?
The AllCare Pharmacy is an independent, for-profit, specialty pharmacy that providee specialty pharmacy services to those in the
Worcester area who have HIV/AIDS or other chronic diseases. AllCare
pharmacy rents space from AIDS Project Worcester.
How do AIDS Project Worcester and the All Care Pharmacy work
together to help those living with HIV/AIDS in Central MA?
AIDS Project Worcester provides non-medical services to people
living with HIV/AIDS in central MA. The AllCare Pharmacy
complements that work by providing medical services to that
same population and others.
The benefit of having a pharmacy on site is that the medical needs of many of the clients can be taken care of in the same location at the same
time as other services. There is regular communication and referrals between staff at each entity. Additionally other patients of the
pharmacy that are not affiliated with AIDS Project Worcester can learn about the organization.
Staff at All Care Pharmacy can help with medication compliance or enrollment in H-DAP (the state’s insurance program for people with HIV/AIDS) while caseworkers at AIDS Project Worcester provide mental health, substance
abuse and housing services.
What are some of the services offered by the All
Care Pharmacy?
All Care Pharmacy provides a variety of services for people with chronic illnesses. These services include a food pantry, medication deliveries, and Direct Observational Therapy
which allows clients to self-administer injectable medication at
the pharmacy.
How did All Care Pharmacy get to be housed on site with AIDS Project
Worcester?
In 2006, Dan Appelian, founder of All Care Pharmacy approached AIDS Project Worcester
about the benefits of having a pharmacy on site. After visiting AIDS Project Worcester, speaking with patients and staff and learning how such a partnership might be useful, Dan was invited to present his idea of opening a pharmacy in an
underutilized part of the AIDS Project Worcester lobby to the board. After receiving their
approval, the All Care Pharmacy opened its doors in 2008.
