    The Truth About Attitude

#1. Our Attitude Determines Our Relationships With People

All of life is impacted by your relationships with people, yetestablishing relationships is difficult. The Stanford Research Institutesays that the money you make in any endeavor is determined only 12.5percent by knowledge and 87.5 percent by your ability to deal withothers.

We must possess an attitude that places others first:

Philippians 2:3-5 says Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but inlowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every manon his own things, but every man also on the things of others. We must seepeople as important and learn to respect anothers viewpoint. Until wewalk in the other persons shoes and see life through anothers eyes, wewill be like the man who angrily jumped out of his car after a collisionwith another car. WHY DONT YOU PEOPLE WATCH WHEREYOURE DRIVING? HE SHOUTED WILDLY. YOURE THEFOURTH CAR THATS HIT ME TODAY!

Usually the person who rises within a ministry has a goodattitude. Being elevated in ministry does not give an individual anoutstanding attitude; but an outstanding attitude can result in beingelevated in ministry.

    The Truth About Attitude

#2. Our Attitude Can Turn Our Problems Into Blessings

In Awake, My Heart, J. Sidlow Baxter wrote, What is thedifference between an obstacle and an opportunity? It is our attitudetoward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty and every difficulty hasan opportunity. When confronted with a difficult situation, a personwith an outstanding attitude makes the best of it while he may get theworst of it. Life can be likened to a grindstone. Whether it grinds youdown or polishes you up depends upon what you are made of.

Kites rise against, not with the wind. When the adverse wind ofcriticism blows your way, allow it to be to you what the blast of thewind is to the kiteit is a force against it that lifts it higher!

    The Truth About Attitude

#3. Our Attitude Can Propel Our Faith To New Dimensions

For example, in ancient Israel when Goliath came up against theHebrews, the soldiers all thought, hes so big we can never kill him.David looked at the same giant and thought, hes so big I cant miss!

People in ministry with good, positive attitudes are likebumblebees. According to the theory of aerodynamics, the bumblebeeshould be unable to fly. Because of the bumblebees size, weight and

shape of its body, in relationship to its total wing span - flying isscientifically impossible. But the bumblebee being ignorant ofscientific theory, goes right ahead and flies anyway; making honey inthe process every day!

In ministry no matter what obstacles we meet that makes ourgoals seem impossible, we can move forward by the wings of faith andexperience the honey of worship everyday.

    The Truth About Attitude

#4. Our Attitude Is Not Automatically Good Because We Are Christians

It is noteworthy that the seven deadly sinspride, covetousness, lust, envy, anger, gluttony, and slothare all matters of attitude, innerspirit, and motives. Often people overlook the true meaning of thestory of the prodigal son. They forget that there are not one but twoprodigals. The younger brother is guilty of the sins of the flesh, whereas the elder brother is guilty of the sins of the spirit. His problemis his attitude. At the end of the parable, it is the elder brotherthesecond prodigalwho is outside the fathers house. This is a good

lesson for all of us to remember. A poor attitude will take us places wedont want to go. Sometimes it can even take you completely out of thegame. On the other hand, a good attitude puts you in the place ofgreatest victory!

Remember the words of Philippians 4:8; Paul describes the secretto having a joy that is greater than lifes difficulties. He says:

Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are good and worthyof praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and

right and pure and beautiful and respected. (NCV)

The key to having a good attitude is the willingness to change.Care about each person in the ministry. Ministry will improve wheneach part is determined to focus on the others strengths as opposed tofocusing on the others weaknesses. Lets build on strengths and notfocus on weaknesses.
