The Rest Is Up to You
When Cragly is tired or hot she loves to come in the house and collapse on the cool floor at my feet. Dog’s seem to know that there is a time to work at chasing squirrels, a time to spin and chase their tails – and a time to come in and collapse at their master’s feet.
It gives me great joy to see her chilling out next to me when she does this -we have some of our best conversations like that.
In the gospel this week, we hear the classic, “Martha/ Mary” story. Jesus will chastise Martha for overworking, over worrying, and not slowing down and sitting at Christ’s feet, listening to him and being present to him.
It’s so easy in our go go go world to miss making time for our Lord. To rush through the day – even these summer days- without slowing down and being with the one who loves us best, making time to pray and reflect with Him whom we will be spending eternity.
Let’s take a lesson from our four legged friends – especially if we are hot or tired over an issue or event- and make time each remaining day of this summer to just sit at Christ’s feet and listen to him. Perhaps read a bit from the one of the Gospels each day. I bet some great conversations will ensue.
In Christ,
(less than a month away from Pre-season!).
In Christ,
Come, Holy Spirit Replace the tension within us with a holy relaxation. Replace the turbulence within us with a sacred calm. Replace the anxiety within us with a quiet confidence. Replace the fear within us with a strong faith. Replace the bitterness within us with the sweetness of grace. Replace the darkness within us with a gentle light. Replace the coldness within us with a loving warmth. Replace the night within us with your light. Replace the winter within us with your spring. Straighten our crookedness. Fill our emptiness. Dull the edge of our pride. Sharpen the edge of our humility. Light the fires of our love. Quench the flames of our lust. Let us see ourselves as you see us That we may see You. Amen.

A True Example of Faith in Our Young People
Recently two of our young people in the
youth choir (Jonathan & Katherine Rowe) lost their grandmother. Jonathan plays the drums, and his sister Katherine, is one of our upcoming junior cantors. Their mom and dad (John & Barbara Rowe) asked if their children could participate in the funeral liturgy, and share their gifts to honor their grandmother (Katherine Boden). The outcome of all the preparation to make this happen was remarkable. To say the least, we were all blown away with the strength these two young people displayed. It was a moment in ministry where you see the love you send out to mentor these kids coming back in ways unimaginable.
We share this with the parish community as an example of what we try to instill in our young people. Not only are they learning to share their talents, they also learn to have faith in doing so. Part of having faith is being able to use the gifts we are given in the most difficult circumstances where we need to reach beyond our emotions. It is our hope that this example will encourage more of our young people to join our Youth Music Ministry in order that we may pass the love given to us down to the next generation and in turn, they pass that love on to others.
John, Barbara, Katherine & Jonathan, thank you for the family you are! You, along with the many families who are involved in our ministry help make our parish community a great place to worship. God Bless you all!!!

Meetings: Sunday 5-7 pm downstairs
Who? All youth going into 8th through 12th grade Where? St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake Time? Beginning July 27 at 9am & ending July 28 at 2pm (exact times subject to change) Cost? $25 per person (Dinner on the 27th, Break-fast and Lunch on the 28th are included) What? A retreat with youth from all around the Diocese of Trenton who come together for ser-vice, fun, and fellowship. I have asked one of our St. Martha youth members who just graduated high school to give a testimonial about SPLASH. Attending SPLASH 2 years ago led her to being one of our most active members. “Splash is a great way to meet other young indi-viduals from around the diocese, partake in meaningful service opportunities and grow in your own spirituality. This two-day retreat is full of laughter, games, prayer, and reflection. It will un-doubtedly leave you with plenty of memories, new friends, and a refreshing perspective on your role as a young adult within the church.” See dioceseoftrenton.org for video highlights of Splash from the past 3 years. We are humbled by the extreme generosity of the parishioners of St. Martha’s Parish and are blessed to share baby bottle donations amount to $17,985.25! A special thank you to all the pa-rishioners and all those who helped hand out the baby bottles and to Father Dave for his support-ive words after the Masses. It is through your prayerful and financial support, we are able to continue to provide a loving home for our fami-lies. We welcome you to visit our Good Counsel Home, call JoAnn DiNoia, 609-387-2928; [email protected]. (We still have bottles that have yet to be returned. If you took a bottle and were not able to participate, for whatever the reason, that’s okay—you can still help. The return of the bottle will still be a donation as this is one less bottle we have to purchase.) Thank you and God bless you.
