April 16, 2017 - Easter Sunday of the Resurrec on of the Lord - Page 3

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Jesus Christ Is Risen! This day that we celebrate as Easter is based on the foundational event of our Christian-Catholic faith. That event is that Jesus Christ has conquered sin and death by his death and Resurrection from the dead. Easter Sunday begins our 50 days of celebration of the Easter Season and the history of our Church is that we celebrate it as ‘one feast day’. The Easter Resurrection is the celebration of God’s love for each one of us as His sons and daughters and part of our eternal hope as part of our faith. Pope Francis states that the events of Easter are pure love: “Jesus Christ, the incarnation of God’s mercy, out of love for us, died on the cross, and out of love he rose again from the dead. That is why we proclaim today: Jesus is Lord!” We celebrate this great act of love in such a special way on Easter and through the 50 days of the Easter Season. I pray that each of us can continue the joy of Easter every day of the Easter Season. In this way we can allow the joy of Christ’s Resurrection to fill our lives and be lived out on a daily basis in all places. As the first disciples spread what they experienced at the tomb on that Sunday morning and afterwards, we are also called to spread that same message of Christ’s Life and Resurrection to all. Let us Rejoice in the Resurrection of Christ and allow that Resurrection power to transform our lives to better follow Jesus Christ, and spread this Good News to others in our world! I wish a Blessed Easter to you and your family. In the Resurrected Christ, Fr. Ernesto M. Orci Pastor

April 16, 2017 - Easter Sunday of the Resurrec on of the Lord - Page 6

P. Santiago Martin. FM

All creation is reborn with the new Adam who rises from the tomb. During the next fifty days as we move toward Pentecost, we will contemplate the post-Easter manifestations of Jesus, the meaning of his Death and Resurrection in our own lives, and our call to be Christ’s body through which he continues to touch human pain and heal broken hearts.

A more confident and articulate Peter than we are used to weaves all these themes into the address he delivers to the household of the new convert Cornelius. Peter’s confidence is rooted in what he later asserts: he has witnessed everything he describes. What he preaches is a basic catechism of early Christian faith that begins with a review of Jesus’ earthly ministry. First, he recalls the baptism and Jesus’ anointing with the “the Holy Spirit and power”. Second he clarifies why power was given to Jesus-not to lord it over anyone, but to concretely manifest God’s love by doing good, by healing, and by driving out demons. Peter knows this is true. He saw it!

The fact that Peter and the apostles “are witnesses” to the healing ministry of Jesus assures Luke’s audience that what they hear proclaimed accurately reflects what Jesus himself preached. This is no minor issue for the infant Church (or for us who follow them).

Then Peter directly takes on the scandal of Jesus’ ignominious Death, speaking without melancholy or embarrassment. And he can do that because he knows how the story ends: God raised the Man, Jesus from the dead! This, too, he knows from experience. Without pride, Peter asserts his credibility by claiming to be among the few privileged to see the risen Christ, a claim he concretizes by insisting the “ate and drank with him” after the Resurrection. Finally, Peter claims he and the others were commissioned by Jesus to “preach the gospel.” Though he stresses future divine judgment (an important aspect of early preaching to pagans), Peter ends with his most hopeful message by recalling the words of the prophets that promise forgiveness of sins to everyone “who believes in him.”

Regina Coeli Queen of heaven, rejoice, Alleluia. For He whom you did merit to bear, Alleluia. Has risen, as He said, Alleluia. Pray for us to God, Alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O virgin Mary, Alleluia. For the Lord has truly risen, Alleluia. Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, his mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
