Crafting
In Aion there are 6 Professions you can choose from. Players are able to have as many
professions as they want however you are only allowed to master one of them. Aion is
quite different then other games when it comes to Professions. Players are able to raise
their skill by fulfilling Work Orders. Work Orders are quests that the Profession Master
gives players to raise their skill. To learn more about Work Orders please view my work
orders section below. In Aion there are different levels for each profession, depending
on your skill. A quick list of these levels are below:
Lesser: level 1 - 99
Regular: 100 - 199
Greater: 200 - 299
Expert: 300 - 399
Master: 400 - 450
You will be able to level every skill up to level 399, although you can Master 1 skill past
399 to Master up to 450.

Aion Work Orders Each Profession Master starts by giving the player 1 Work Order. It requires a skill of
level 1 in order to accept the first Work Order. For the first Work Order the NPC will
supply all of the materials required to craft what he asks for. Players will gain skill ups
for crafting the items he requires but not for turning in the actual quest. When your
Tradeskill reaches level 10 you will be able to accept a new Work Order.
The one at level 10 requires you to buy some materials of your own and of course is a
little harder to make. However, the chance of getting a skill up from it is much more
likely. When you reach level 20, you will be able to accept another Work Order that
requires even more of your own materials to make. This process will repeat itself the
higher your skill gets.
Players can use Work Orders to raise their Profession Skills all the way up to max.
However It is not as easy as it sounds. The higher you get, the more expensive the
"excess" items you have to buy are making it one long Money/Time sink. (As with every
other game). Something new and innovative with Aion is that when you successfully
craft you will gain XP. Not XP towards increasing your skill but actual XP that will
progress you through your level.
Things to Note About Work Orders
As you raise your skill in that craft everything will become more and more
expensive
You will be able to use Work Orders from 1 to Max Skill.
You can repeat Work Orders as many times as you want
You can NOT request more materials for your Work Order. If you fail too many
times you will be required to abandon your Work Order and reaccept it.
ProcingWhen crafting in Aion you have a chance to "proc" an item. What this means is you will
originally be crafting say white(in quality) pants. Then they proc into Green(in quality)
pants. When it procs it improves the stats and quality level of the item. You can also
proc a Green item into a Blue item and so on and so forth until the item level cannot be
improved or you can't use it in a craft.
You can tell you proc'd an item because the items name will turn green and the icon of it
while crafting it will flash. After this happens you will continue to create the item like
normal.

Overview of Crafts
Handicrafting Alchemy Armorsmithing
Sewing Cooking Weapon Smith
Alchemy Alchemy is used for creating Potions, Scrolls, Manastones, Spellbooks and Orbs.
Alchemy is a good money maker since people will always be popping potions, scrolls
and of course always be needing Manastones. The Spellbooks and Orbs are just
"Extra" goodies. Eventhough the last two items seem more driven for Spellcasters,
Alchemy is a good profession for anyone since everyone.
The main thing that is great about Alchemy is not having to find other players or deal
with other players to get Potions and Manastones. The only downside of Alchemy is
collecting all the materials for this profession tends to fill up your inventory fast. If you
can deal with that, this is a perfect profession for you!

Armor Smithing Armorsmithing is used for creating shields, chain helmets, plate helmets, chain armor,
and plate armor. Armorsmithing is very useful to have if you are of the Priest or Warrior
classes, as you can fill 6 or 7 inventory slots with high quality crafted gear, making a big
difference in your character’s statistics
CookingCooking is one of the 6 professions available to players in Aion. The Cooking
Profession allows players to cook raw materials that they gather from around the world
into delicious dishes! When these dishes are eaten they will grant the player buffs.
Players can create two types of dishes, Normal dishes and Delicious dishes. Normal
dishes will give you a buff for 30minutes, where as Delicious dishes will give you a buff
for 45 minutes.
Cooking is in demand since players will need the food to maximize their potential.
Unlike many other games in Aion players will need to pop consumables like candy. This
is both good and bad. Since if you choose a profession like cooking you'll make a
decent amount of chump change.
HandcraftingHandicrafting can create Rings, Staves, Necklaces, Bows and Earrings. Consider
Handicrafting the "Misc" profession" that players can choose. Handicrafting is a great
profession for Chanters and Rangers since it creates the weapons that they use, Bows
and Staves. However since everyone can use Rings, Necklaces and Earrings this
profession is really great for anyone. Much like Armor Smithing and Weapon Smithing in
order to create anything of real value you will need to "proc" the item that you're making.
TailoringTailoring will allow players to craft cloth armor, leather armor and belts. Tailoring is a
common profession for Scouts and Mages since they can use the armor that it crafts.
Unless you're a Scout or Mage I don't recommend this profession to you. As with the
other Professions that can create gear, in order to make a good piece of gear you will
need to "proc" the item that you're making.
Weapon Smithing
Weapon Smithing will allow players to create *Drum roll* Weapons! Weaponsmithing
can create the following types of weapons: Daggers, Swords, Maces, Polarms and
Greatswords. They can't craft Bows, Staves or Spellbooks/Orbs. Those items are tied to
Handicrafting/Alchemy. Weaponsmithing can create excellent weapons, So if you're a

Gladiator/Templar/Assassin that wants to get ahead I highly recommend this profession.
Weaponsmithing is a very money consuming profession. Expect to invest much time
and money into the profession in order to see results. In order to actually make money
off this profession you will need to "proc" a craft.
GatheringGathering Basics There are two gathering skills in Aion. Players
begin the game with just the general gathering
skill ranked 1 of 99. Upon completion of the
ascension quest, the player receives the aerial
gathering skill. This allows the player to gather
any node with a required skill rank of 1, while the
maximum achievable rank before obtaining
further training is 99. When a skill reaches
maximum rank players may purchase additional
training in the skill. This system applies to both
gathering and crafting. So then lets answer that
nagging question, how does a player rank-up
skills?
The simplest answer is to level a skill by using it, though there is a little more to it. The
most basic aspect to understand, is how general gathering from resource nodes works.
Whenever a node is activated the player receives a pop-up box that displays the current
skill rank, the item received upon success, and two bars representing success or failure.
As the gathering process begins, a series of successes and failures are represented via
progression of the two bars. The extent to which a success or failure progresses either
bar is determined by your skill rank in relation to the required rank for that node. If the
player’s skill rank is the same as that required to gather a given node, then there is
about a 33% chance to fail the entire process.

The greater the player’s skill rank becomes in relation to the required rank, the lower the
chance of an overall failure. Once the player’s skill rank surpasses the required rank by
more then 20, it becomes impossible to fail. Success provides experience to the
character and skill until the player’s rank surpasses the required rank by 40. At this point
the skill can no longer gain rank.
What to gather – 1-100 skill points
Having discussed the basics of skill ranks, I’ll move on to the types of nodes and
methods of gathering materials within the world of Atreia. There are what I categorize as
four basic types of nodes; plants, minerals, gems, and woods. Plants are by far the
most abundant type of resource. They appear everywhere on the planet’s surface but
do not appear within the Abyss.

Minerals and Gems are found both on the planet’s surface as well as in the Abyss.
Minerals come in two forms. The first is minable with each new training level, while the
other has node specific rank requirements and a different appearance. Gems are the
rarest of the nodes found on the ground throughout Atreia and generally appear where
several can be found in relative proximity.
Lastly are the woods which contain the least variety and are found scattered throughout
Atreia. At this point, its fair to mention, that for most nodes there are two types of
material that can be found. The regular version received 95% of the time and a rare
version, often of the same material. The exception to this, from what I’ve seen, is
woods.

That takes us to the aerial gathering skill and gathering from odes. Yes its odes, not
nodes, in order to represent the difference between aerial and ground gathering. Odes
differ from regular ground gathering in that there is only one available every 25 skill
ranks. Additionally, they can only be found in zones where free flight is available.
The last manner of obtaining materials for crafting is the traditional method of killing
mobs throughout the game. Mobs throughout the world drop several materials, although
there are a couple key ones that will be found continually across all levels. The two
important enough to mention are the leathers and the crystal balls. Leathers drop off of
most mobs that you would expect them to, so anything with a hide. Crystal balls drop off
everything and appear in three colors; red, blue, and white.
In closing it should be noted that most of the general materials also have different
rarities. Two simple examples are gems and crystal balls. For gems, the node may
produce a regular version of the material that is any quality. The rare version, when one
is available, will always be of a quality a step above the regular version produced. The
exception being that there are no unigue quality materials at this time. In the case of
crystal balls each ball occurs in different rarities and any color crystal ball may drop in
any rarity.

gets you excited for the upcoming article on what to do with those newly gathered
materials!
