For years, data center managers have been told they can

either have a highlyreliable data center or a highlyefcient

data center, but not both. Its a similar story to the automobile

market where or decades, Detroit told the world, you caneither buy a low cost or a high quality car. The Japanese

showed the world that you can indeed oer a car that is both

low cost and high quality, changing the dynamics o the car

    industry orever.

At Wright Line, we oer solutions that improve both

eciency and reliability. In order to eectively uture proo

your critical inrastructure you must maintain a predictable

environment. This not only includes the ability to direct and

separate hot and cold air, but also to accurately measure the

perormance o your design to ensure it is operating

    as planned.

Wright Lines comprehensive portolio o vendor-neutral

airfow management solutions are designed to work within

your new or existing data center environment. Whether you

have Wright Line enclosures, an alternative brand or a mixo enclosures rom various manuacturers, these products

will help solve your airfow management issues and provide

a much more predictable operating environment which is

essential to delivering both eciency and reliability.

Although it is always important to look at the entire data

center when optimizing airfow, solutions can be implemented

in stages at the rack, row and room level depending on:

Wright Line's Heat Containment System (HCS) is a simple, scalable and low cost solution to

cool up to 25kW or more per enclosure without the expense o adding supplemental CRAC

units to your data center. This patented technology is available on Wright Line's Paramount

and Vantage S2 enclosure systems and can also be eld retrotted to most manuacturers'

enclosures. The HCS contains and directs the heat exhaust o your IT equipment through

the chimney that is attached to the top rear o the enclosure. The hot air is then ducted to

your existing CRAC units through the plenum ceiling or high air returns.

Bypass airfow and mixing lead to ineciencies, shorter

lie cycles or equipment and increased operating cost.

Managing airfow to enclosures with varying densities,

varying building inrastructure and sporadic hot spots ischallenging, but can now be solved using a simple solution.

Wright Lines HCS pressure based system with active

airfow, when combined with best practices, improves

perormance metrics considerably. Allocating the correct

amount o airfow at known intake locations is the key toreducing energy consumption while increasing equipment

perormance. Best practices such as blanking panels, proper

perorated tile placement and the reduction o bypass

airfow must be employed to ensure desired results.

In today's dynamic data center environment, IT

equipment is rereshed on a requent basis. These

changes oten leave open U-space in the enclosurewhich can allow re-circulation o hot exhaust air back to

the equipment inlet. This can cause overheating o the

equipment and subsequent shutdown o servers when

the maximum temperature threshold is reached.

Blanking panels provide a quick, easy and cost-eective

solution to optimize air circulation within an enclosure

while maintaining high aesthetics. Wright Line oers

Properly cooling network devices that require side-to-side airfow in an enclosure

can present many challenges. Air recirculation that occurs in an enclosure can cause

temperatures to rise signicantly causing overheating o the devices. Wright Line'sAirfow Managers and Directors draw air into the enclosure, redirect the air to the

side intake o the device and allow the removal o the hot air out o the enclosure.

These solutions extend equipment lie by providing proper inlet temperatures and

eliminating harmul recirculation within the rack.
