    KharKiv host of euro-2012

    Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine,located to the Northeast o the country. Itis the major cultural, scientifc, educational,transport and industrial centre o Ukraine.Tere are more than 380 industrialenterprises concentrated in the city, whichhave a total number o 150,000 employees.Te enterprises orm machine-building,electrotechnical, instrument-making, andenergy clusters. Kharkiv is one o the mostprolifc centers o higher education andresearch o Eastern Europe. Te city has

    13 national universities and numerouspro essional, technical and private highereducation institutions, o ering its studentsa wide range o disciplines. A total numbero 150,000 students attend the universitiesand other institutions o higher educationin Kharkiv. About 9,000 oreign students

    rom 96 countries study in the city. Morethan 17,000 aculty and research sta are employed in Kharkiv higher educationinstitutions.

    oday Kharkiv is actively preparing to

    host the fnal part o EURO-2012 ootballchampionship, and currently the city isthe leader in number o realized projects.Kharkiv International Airport is one o themost important in rastructure elements,which will served as the main gateway toEURO-2012 and Routes CIS delegates weresome o the frst passengers to visit thenew passenger terminal.

    Kharkiv is the 3rd largest Ukrainian city by the volume o oreigninvestments (2011 $250 mio, +44,5% compared to 2010), withover 1 000 companies involving direct oreign investments.

    Kharkiv Airport was launched on 6,December 1932. It had so t-sur acerunway, two-storeyed terminal andother necessary passenger andground handling services.

    UK, CARDIFF, April 18. Euro-2012fnal part o the European FootballChampionship will be hosted byUkraine and Poland - these are theresults o voting o the memberso the UEFA executive c ommitteein Cardi . Te hosts o the Euro-2012 were announced by the UEFAPresident Michel Platini.

    Te construction o the newpassenger terminal started.

    Te terminal that now handles VIP passengers was constructed in1954. Te opening o this terminalwas dedicated to the 300-yearsanniversary o Ukraine and Russiareunion. During soviet times thiswas the only airport passengerterminal annually serving up to2 mio passengers.

    Te President o Ukraine, Victor Yanukovich opens the newpassenger terminal. Te airporthosts the frst Routes CIS.

    On March 5, 2007 the executivecommittee o Kharkiv city councilrecognized New Systems AM thewinner in the tender or rentingthe whole asset complex o theKharkiv airport.Te airport was given to rent or 49years, the above company assumedresponsibility to invest into theairport reconstruction $118,9million till 2020.On April 1, 2008 project design o the new terminal began.

    Te airports history began in 1923 with theoundation o a joint-stock company aimed to

    arrange scheduled ights via Kharkiv. Te newairport was built in 1932 and by 1936 it be-came the best in the USSR. Te existing termi-nal was built a ter the Second World War andconstruction o the airport began in 1951, andits opening was timed to pompous celebra-tion o the 300th anniversary o Ukraine andRussia reunifcation (1954). By 1970, Kharkivairport passenger tra c had already reached600 thousand. In 10 years the passenger tra -fc increased up to 900 thousand pax.Te new li e or Kharkiv airport started in1995. Tan the airport was signifcantly mod-ernized, including the lengthening o runwayand customs control establishment (be orethere wasnt any customs control because theairport was used only or domestic ights).Te new International Airport Kharkivasan air communal enterprise, was ounded in2001 a ter the airport administration wastrans erred rom Ukrainian transport min-istry to Kharkiv city. From 1 April, 2008 thecommunal enterprise International Airport

    Kharkiv was granted on long-term lease toNSAM L D (NSAM L D is a part o DCHinvestment management group, which is oneo the largest business groups on the Ukrain-ian market) with the purpose to modernizeKharkiv air transport and communication sys-tem be ore EURO 2012.In autumn 2008, the airport major recon-struction began. Te modernization plan wasdeveloped by the Airport Consulting ViennaCompany (Austria) and DCH invested $205mio in this project. Te modernization ore-sees the construction o the new RWY withlength o 2500 m, PCN 52, the constructiono the new terminal with a total area o 20000 sq.m, passenger tra c increase to 700thousand pax in 2012, trans ormation o theexisting terminal into the terminal or VIP pas-sengers and the o cial delegations receptionhall, landside acilities reconstruction and theconstruction o parking or 423 cars.Routes CIS 2010 delegates were the frstpeople to enjoy the brand new airport termi-nal and to witness the exciting developmentthat this airport and region o ers.
