The primary school will be engaged in a number

of interesting topics this term, ranging from ‘The History of Me’ biography project in Year 3, to ‘children in World War Two’ work in Year 4. Year 5 will be learning all about the world’s water and Year 6 will be finding out about organs in the human body. So be pre-pared for some interesting questions from your children!

extra-curricular activities begin this month, with old fa-vourites such as art club and chess being joined by some exciting new activities for your children to try. Activities such as: the fun and energetic Zumba dance class, the con-fidence-boosting drama club (for the budding actors among you) and finally a science club where you will have the chance to try intriguing experiments for yourself!

In continuation of last year’s success, your children will soon be receiving this term’s Baker Books catalogue from which you and your family can choose to purchase books from their wide selection. Keep an eye out for it and be sure to

Welcome to Skolkovo, the newest of the At-

lantic International schools. We opened our doors for the first time on the 1st September 2011.

My name is Ms. Karen Brunt and I am the curriculum coordi-nator for the school. I consider it a privilege to be a member of the Atlantic International staff and community and am very much looking forward to shar-ing in an exciting and reward-ing first year with you and your child/children.

This is an exciting time for staff and pupils alike as we launch into our first year in our brand new school.

We aim to fulfill our com-mitment to you as parents and our pupils by providing an education of the highest stan-dard within the context and understanding of shared values e.g. care, consideration and co-operation, honesty, respect and openness. The school encour-ages an understanding of the meaning and significance of these values through the expe-rience it offers its pupils.

We believe it is important to promote inquiry and curi-osity, enthusiasm and chal-

lenge, sharing and learning to-gether. We want

all of our children to feel wel-comed, happy and fulfilled. We recognize that all children are different and that these differ-ences create opportunities for adults and children alike to learn more about ourselves and each other. Helping children to develop good attitudes and val-ues is an important feature of our work.

Я с искренним удовольствием приму уча-стие в этом захватывающем и интересном мероприятии, первом школьном году с вами и вашими детьми.

Это волнительное время для сотрудников и воспитан-ников, так как мы начали этот новый учебный год в совер-шенно новой школе.

Наша цель – выполнить обязательства перед вами, родителями, и перед наши-ми воспитанниками, обеспе-

чивая образование наивыс-шего стандарта в условиях взаимопонимания и общих ценностей, таких как забо-та, предупредительность и сотрудничество, честность, уважение и открытость. Шко-ла способствует пониманию смысла и значимости этих ценностей посредством вос-питания и обучения, которое получают дети.

After having had a rest in the summer, both pupils,

and teachers look forward one of the most joyful days in the calendar – the Day of Knowl-edge – a celebration of the beginning of a new academic year, a day promising new be-ginnings and successes.

Towards the end of the sum-mer holidays each family con-scientiously prepares for the coming year with the purchase of important school accesso-ries such as; textbooks, writing equipment and school clothes. But added to this list, on the eve of the 1st September, beautiful bunches of flowers are bought which greatly add to the colour and spirit of the Day of Knowl-edge and to the warm apprecia-tion between teachers and pupils ready to start a new academic year together.

It greatly pleases us that on the 1st September our school met the pupils and their parents’ with cheerful school songs, cel-ebratory slogans, greetings and congratulations.

on this day the traditions of the British and Russian schools were successfully combined; the ceremonial assembly of the Day of Knowledge of all schools in Russia and the traditional first assembly of schools in england,

the cheerful school call invit-ing all to lessons, and the strict Mary Poppins checking whether pupils are ready for lessons, the words of the school leaders and the welcoming speeches of visi-tors spoken in both Russian and english languages.

Such a combination of tradi-tions hadn’t surprised either the children or their parents, as the school now moves into its third year. But a few may have be-come puzzled when they heard the name of classes with an english word for the year, put to a class number. Also, those who were going to become first-graders may have been invited into a class in Year 3; seventh-graders into Year 9 and ninth-graders into Year 11. But the confusion did not continue for long, with the children becom-ing quickly accustomed to their

new groups and, having heard the cheerful school call, they happily went into their classes with their tutors and class teach-ers. This procession started with the first class – kindergarten group (year1, 2), then was fol-lowed by the pupils in Year 3, and behind them the rest of the school followed suit.

on this day all was celebra-tory; the lessons, meal times, and the excursion to Kolomen-skoe park. In lessons pupils travelled through stations of knowledge, pleasing the teach-ers by displaying that they had forgotten very little over the summer, in fact many of the pupils showed that they had expanded their knowledge dur-ing the vacation. The children visited a number of different stations such as: ‘Knowledge’, ‘Mystery’, ‘History’, ‘Biology’,

‘Mathematics’, ‘needlework’, ‘IcT’ and ‘Music’. The most success came from Years10 and 12 in the knowledge quizzes.

After a dinner, in Kolomen-skoe Park the pupils chatted with each other, and with the class teachers, and had a won-derful time telling each other in-teresting stories about the spent vacation. These moments were fortunately captured by a photo-graphic session.

The day very quickly came to an end and all the children returned to school to wait for their parents. The pupils were tired, but happy, as they went home, having been once again convinced that their school, ‘At-lantic International School’ had long prepared for this day and very much cared about them and their future education. ■

Отдохнув за лето, и уча-щиеся, и учителя с не-

терпением ждут один из са-мых радостных праздников – День Знаний – праздник, начинающий новый учебный год, праздник, обещающий новые открытия и успехи. К празднику этому суетли-во готовятся почти в каждой семье: приобретаются учеб-ники и другие школьные принадлежности, выбира-ется школьная одежда и, на-конец, накануне 1 сентября покупаются красивые букеты цветов, которые лучше вся-ких слов скажут, как ребята ждали встречу с любимыми учителями и как рады этой встрече.

Но чтобы праздник состо-ялся, мало цветов, нарядов

и праздничного настроения. Нужна еще хорошая програм-ма. И готовится она теми, кто каждый год первого сентя-бря встречает детей в школе, чтобы потом день за днем по-могать им узнавать новое, по-стигать неизведанное, откры-вать мир знаний.

1 сентября наша школа встретила своих питомцев и их родителей веселыми школьными песнями, празд-ничными лозунгами, привет-ствиями и поздравлениями.

В этот день удачно соче-тались традиции британской и российской школы: тор-жественная линейка, какие в День Знаний проводятся во всех школах России, и ассам-блея, которая традиционно проводится в школах Англии; веселый школьный звонок, приглашающий всех на уро-

ки, и строгая Мэри Поппинс, проверяющая, готовы ли уча-щиеся к урокам; слова веду-щих и приветственные речи гостей, звучавшие на русском и английском языках…

Такое сочетание традиций не удивило ни детей, ни их родителей: школа существу-ет третий год и за это вре-мя было проведено немало праздников. Но немного рас-терялись и те, и другие, когда услышали название классов с английским словом year, приставляющимся к номеру класса. И тот, кто собирался стать первоклассником, был приглашен в класс year 3; а се-миклассники оказались в year 9, девятиклассники – в year 11. Но замешательство про-должалось недолго, дети ос-воились и, услышав веселый школьный звонок, проследо-вали в классы за воспитате-

лями и классными руководи-телями. Первыми – группа детского сада (year1,2), затем учащиеся year 3, а за ними все остальные.

В этот день праздничным было все: и уроки, и обед, и экскурсия в парк Коломен-ское. На уроках учащиеся путешествовали по станци-ям знаний, с удовольствием показывая учителям, что за лето они не только ничего не забыли, но и узнали что –то новое, вызывая у учителей ра-достное удивление и улыбки. Ребята побывали на станциях: «Грамотеево», «Загадочная», «Историческая», «Биологи-ческая», «Математическая», «Умелые ручки», «Компью-терная» и «Музыкальная». Самыми знающими на стан-циях оказались year10, и year 12. Неумех и незнаек среди наших детей не было.

После обеда, в парке Ко-ломенское, школьники об-щались друг с другом и со своими классными руководи-телями, молодыми, интерес-ными и увлеченными, играли, удивляли друг друга интерес-ными рассказами о проведен-ных каникулах, фотографиро-вались…

Очень быстро подошел к концу праздничный день. В школе всех ребят ждали родители, и после ужина, уставшие, но счастливые, они возвращались домой, еще раз убедившись в том, что в школе «Атлантик» их ждали, долго готовились к встрече и очень любят их. ■

периода. За это время наши дети очень сдружились и при-выкли к нашему распорядку дня, и стали принимать ак-тивное участие на уроках. В нашем Детском Садике есть несколько систем поощрения. Каждую пятницу мы вручаем сертификат «Звезда недели» (лучшему ученику недели). Вот наши первые звездочки.Воспитатель группы Year 2 Мисс Лена.

The reception class had a great beginning to the new

school year. We have had fun exploring our new classroom and making new friends. We have begun to learn our pho-nics through the Jolly Phonics programme. We have learnt the sounds for the letters s, a, t and i. each sound has an action and a song that helps us to remem-ber it. We are practising how to hold a pencil correctly, while we learn how to write some letters. We have fun counting through a range of activities, includ-ing counting songs and count-ing how many children are at school. We have been learning to speak in english everyday, we have been practising how to talk about what we like and can do. It has been a great start and we look forward to learning more as the year goes on.

Мы пытаемся каждый день говорить друг с другом и с нашими вос-питателями на английском и уже можем сказать, что нам нравится, и что мы можем делать. Pre-nursery had a great time making “Funny

Food Faces”. They learnt about different parts of the face and names of vegetables. Vanya es-pecially liked the, “Cucumber Eyes” (look at his photo!) whilst Artur preferred to eat the whole face!! All in all it was a very amusing activity!Pre-Nursery teachers: Ms Amanda and Ms Maria. ■

Hello! We are Miss nadia and Miss Amy of nursery

A! We are looking forward to all the challenges and all the fun we are going to have this year, as well as learning new and exciting things with our class. The year is already off to an exciting start as we kicked off the year with a wonderful first day of school welcoming ceremony. The chil-dren had an opportunity to meet all their teachers and engaged in a number of different activities that served as a small introduc-tion to what they would be doing throughout the year. The chil-dren also participated in the first assembly of the year which was led by Miss Nadia. During the children’s day assembly, Miss

nadia explained to both the stu-dents and teachers different ways in which children live around the world. our class was very interested in the presentation, es-pecially when the older children performed a song in which they said, “Hello” in many languages. nursery A is a very active class and we are enjoying all of our activities so far. The adaptation period is now over, and we are quickly falling into our class-room routine. We are currently learning about ourselves, our lives, the environments around us; and the children are very curi-ous about what will happen next!

Дети так же побывали на первой ассамблее в этом году, которую проводила Мисс Надя. Детки узнали, как живут их сверстники во всем мире. Мы с увлечением участвова-ли в предложенных заданиях и внимательно слушали, как старшие дети представили песню, в которой слово «при-вет» прозвучало на многих языках мира. Nursery A очень активная группа и нам нравит-ся всё, что мы делаем. Первич-ный адаптационный период уже прошел, и мы быстро втя-гиваемся в ежедневную рабо-ту. Сейчас мы изучаем себя, нашу жизнь и окружающий нас мир, и детям очень любо-пытно, что же будет дальше!

This week our group nursery B was introduced to shapes.

We saw how these shapes are similar to some of our favorite fruits and vegetables; apples are like circles, and cucumbers are like ovals. We painted fruits; like apples, oranges and grapes, with smiles to hang in our cloakroom. We also prepared a delicious looking salad of tomatoes and cucumbers out of play-doh. our harvest looked tasty and healthy!

The first month of Year one has had a great start.

Students are having lots of fun learning all about the let-ters and sounds through poems and songs. Students are also learning their numbers 1 to 20. They are learning to recognise number words and to put num-bers in order both forwards and backwards. Students have also been learning about different parts of the body and the five senses. So far we have learned about our arms, hands, legs, feet, mouth and ears. When students learnt about their mouths we talked about how we use our tongues to taste new and yummy flavours. Students learned about salty, sweet and sour flavours through tasting a chip, chocolate, and lemon. They had a lot of fun with this activity. Above are pictures from when students tasted a sour lemon. Year one students enjoy new experiences in learn-ing everyday!

вал отличный старт к успеху в новом учебном году.

Ребята с огромным удо-вольствием изучают новые звуки и буквы через песенки и стихи. Мы также изучаем цифры от 1 до 20. Сейчас уче-ники учатся узнавать слова обозначающие цифры, рас-ставлять их в прямом и обрат-ном порядке.

На уроках естествознания ученики узнали много нового о частях тела человека и пяти органах чувств. Мы выучи-ли, для чего человеку нужны руки и ладони, ноги и ступ-

ни, рот и уши. Рассматривая рот, мы говорили о том, как важен язык для дегустации новой и вкусной еды. Ребята с закрытыми глазами пробо-вали чипсы, шоколад и лимон и определяли на вкус соле-ное, кислое и сладкое. Они активно участвовали в этом процессе и получили от него огромное удовольствие. Мы сделали несколько снимков во время того, как ученики дегустировали лимон. Дети в группе Year 1 воспринимают все новое с большим энтузи-азмом, обучаясь каждый но-вый день!

In Maths we have been counting up to 100 and we are now much more confident and can recite numbers in both english and Rus-sian. We have been learning about ourselves and have sang a range of body songs e.g. “If you happy and you’re know it”, and “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”. As part of learning about ourselves we have been looking at our sens-es. We have tasted both sweet and salty items and we are able to dis-tinguish between them.Year 2 teachers: Miss Suzanne and Miss Elnara.■

английском, так и на русском языках. Мы узнали много нового о себе, выучили не-сколько песен по этой теме «If you happy and you know it», «Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes».
