AIYANA MATHEWS Biography A native Atlantan, Aiyana has spent most of her life exploring her interests in literature, culture, science, foreign languages and travel. Having stamps from over 25 countries: all for pleasure--she boasts; many of her favoured destinations she has visited times. Life tugged at her affinity to be global when she joined Delta Airlines in 2005; softly separating from the interesting world of (security) printing. Two years later, she was selected for a position with the Japan Exchange & Teaching Programme (JET) which is administered by The Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) in cooperation with local government organizations; the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC); the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA); and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). She worked for the Shikama Board of Education for 3 years. During that time, her multi-media background, skills in coordinating events and international travel experiences allowed her to become a dynamic asset to her community. In 2009, Aiyana was selected to be co-Director the 2010 Miyagi Art & Culture Show, a prefectural- wide art exhibit in Sendai City. Her intercultural events were well-known and she gained popularity through an online TV show called OnegaiLIVE. In 2010, Aiyana received a National Award for creating a fusion work of Japanese & African art and her piece was on display at the National Kokeshi museum for one year. Since returning to Atlanta, she has founded a travel concierge business which specializes in festivals called Gardner-Mathews Travel Concierge . The creation of this company was a natural next step for someone with Aiyana's experience and talents. The company motto is ‘showing you the world...one festival at a time’ while creating memorable experiences. Aiyana speaks Japanese, Spanish, Woloof, Ki-Swahili and English. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and completed a research study at Chiba University (千千千千). Aiyana presently resides in the Historic Old Fourth Ward district of Atlanta, GA, USA.
