We bel ieve that a true s tatement piece cannot s imply rely on the beauty of one s ingle e lement , but that , l ike any masterpiece, i t must a lso offer an inherent level of depth and complexity that keeps on giving to the beholder.

LAPIS ASSORTMENT Necklace

For Nicole Akong, designing jewel lery is a relat ively new pursuit — the fulf i lment of a l i fe long dream to spend her l i fe making beauti ful things.

Born and raised in the West Indies, Nicole ’s early academic achievements were always underpinned by a rogue creat ive s treak. By age 7, she already held dis t inct ions in dance and music. Aged 10, she learnt to use her mother’s sewing machine and would spend al l her free t ime creat ing ent ire col lect ions of Barbie clothes. She wrote a novel at 16 and at 18, lef t home to go to univers i ty in Miami and graduated with a degree in F ine Ar t in 1999. From there, she moved to London where she immediately fe l l in love with the ci ty ’s v ibrant cul ture, and spent the next 8 years bui lding a successful career in the City by day and DJing by night .

In 2008, she took her f ir s t jewel lery-making course and i t proved a perfect out let to channel her abundance of creat ive energy. With her jewel lery at tract ing the at tent ion of fr iends, col leagues and s trangers al ike, she decided to take the leap off the corporate ladder and off ic ial ly launched her jewel lery label , Akong London, at the s tar t of 2010.
