Generation Performance
Business Performance – Hydro & Renewable Operations
Akshay Urja, the quarterly magazine, has become an important platform for Hydro & RO employees to
showcase the various facets of activities that we are involved in. Focus is not only on Generation and
Operation & Maintenance activities, attention is also paid towards community work, recreational events etc.
And in all these activities “Safety First”.
The period June – August is high wind season, hence crucial for Wind operations. Similarly, Operations in
Hydros have to watertight, to ensure maximum utilisation of water resources during the on-going monsoon
seasons. Hence, the employees in the Renewable Division are geared up to ensure minimum outages and
thus, maximum productivity.
Our focus on efforts for community welfare are important, since it shows that we live up to and uphold the
Values laid down by the Founders.
I hope the employees and their families enjoy reading the magazine, as much as we enjoyed bringing it to
you. We look forward to your contributions in terms of providing us with content/articles and make this
magazine their own.
Happy Reading…….

Safety First
Safety is a simple subject; Simple, but don’t neglect.
If you think safety first, you can live safely till the last.
If you wear safety gear; No accident, no fear.
Safety is very cheap, it will prevent you pain & weep.
Just make sure - if you do invest, go with best.
Our days are full of risk, safety thinking downs the risk.
Safety is a simple subject; Simple, but don’t neglect.
Production Must, SAFETY FIRST.

Aquaponics – Walvan Garden
The scarcity of water and good agricultural land is a major challenge for the burgeoning population of
our country. The use of fertilizers has been known to result in a long term negative impact on the quality
and productivity of the tillable land. Hence, a need is felt to increase the production of vegetables by
using the available natural resources in optimum and careful manner.
Aquaponics (Aquaculture + Hydroponics) is an extremely rare technology in the field of natural
conservation. Aquaculture involves growing fish in ponds and Hydroponics is growing plants in water
without soil.
An experiment on Aquaponics is being carried out at Walvan garden with the following purpose in mind:
1. Optimum use of the natural resources like water and land 2. Should be Useful in areas where the resources are scare 3. Technique should be easy for a common person to adopt 4. Low cost
A lot of awareness is being created to grow and consume organically grown vegetables as the harmful
effects of pesticides and Inorganic fertilizers are well known. With this in view, the experiment of
Aquaponics is being carried out for the last one year. The experiment has started yielding encouraging
results.
