The Meissen Albrechtsburg, Germany’s ol-dest castle, rises majestically above the Elbe River valley. Its walls bear witness to the po-wer and cultural legacy of its former sover-eigns, the margraves of Meissen.

The representative castle building was erected in the late 15th century, supervised by master builder Arnold von Westfalen. The masterly edifice was a trendsetter in its time, whose ar-chitectural solutions and concepts of design still impress us today. Join visitors from all over the world in marveling at the outstan-ding features of architecture in the shape of the widely arched curtain windows, deeply recessed cellular vaulting and the filigree spi-ral staircase.

From the early 18th century, the castle was again setting trends that took effect far beyond Saxon borders: Only two years after Johann Friedrich Böttger had worked out the creation of porcelain, in 1710, the first Eu-ropean porcelain manufactory moved in by decree of Augus-tus the Strong. In the course of more than 150 years, true pieces of art were created in the cast-le, and it was from Meissen that the “White Gold” set out on its triumphant march through Eu-rope and around the world.

Still today, Meissen Albrechts-burg Castle is in the vanguard - this time as a museum. Join us and embark on an exciting tour of discovery. Historical exhibits and virtual installations present the cradle of Saxony in its pioneering role. Thereby, the exhibition itself is setting high standards: Interactive media terminals, an overwhelming exhibition architecture and fas-cinating exhibits whisk visitors away on a journey back in time through the history of Meis-sen Alb rechtsburg Castle, the »Trendsetter since 1471«.
