Respect, Responsibility, Care. Friday 23 rd September Assembly 12pm – Awards Rewards Day – “Who Dun It??” End of Term 3 Monday 10 th October Students resume Term 4 Tuesday 11 th October P & C Meeting – 7pm Friday 21 st October Kindergarten 2017 Parent Information session – 9am Community Garden Progress towards our community garden is taking place. We have to say a very big thank you to 2AY for their wonderful donation of $5000 towards our garden. This will enable us to purchase soil and garden beds from The Rock Yard; gardening tools from Total Tools and watering supplies needed from AT Jones. Students in 2/3M and 4/5K have started propagating seeds and our first garden bed is about to be erected. A planned working bee will take place next term – we hope that 2AY will run their very popular gardening program “Gardening with Gumboots” from the school and we also hope that members from West Albury Rotary will be able to give a hand. More information will be sent out early next term as it would be wonderful to have families involved in this wonderful garden that will support our community. Police Youth Liaison visit We were very fortunate to have a visit last week from Tanya Thompson, the Police Youth Liaison Officer, and Senior Constables Belinda Wells and Kylie Bowden from the PCYC who spoke to students in Years 4 - 6 about road and general safety and cyber safety. Albury, like much of NSW, has seen an increase in online predators and cyber bullying and the police message was one of caution and what to do to keep safe online. Tanya is currently considering a suitable date to return to the school to conduct further student sessions around keeping cyber safe and safe on the roads. We can’t be too careful when dealing with the additional stresses and responsibilities the online world has created for parents/carers. School Excursions Final payment for the planned major excursion to Canberra (Years 5 and 6) is due tomorrow. School Surveys A reminder that the three school surveys sent home with the last newsletter are due in tomorrow. We thank the families who have already returned the surveys - your input is valued and will be used to assist in the completion of the Annual School Report. BOOK FAIR SUCCESS A very big thank you is extended to the many families and students who supported the Book Fair. It was pleasing to see so many of our children purchasing a book or two to read. Thanks must go to Nicole Morrison who ran the book fair – thanks to her enthusiasm and time we were able to sell over $1800 worth of books. This enabled us to choose $540 in books for the school. Skip-athon Thank you to all of the students who participated in the skip-a-thon. Many students have already returned Diary Dates 511 Mott Street, Albury NSW 2640 Ph 0260 212 288 Fax 0260 413 783 Principal – Sharon Julien P.O. Community Garden Progress towards our community garden is taking place.

Police Youth Liaison visit We were very fortunate to have a visit last week from Tanya Thompson, the Police Youth Liaison Officer, and Senior Constables Belinda Wells and Kylie Bowden

from the PCYC who spoke to students in Years 4 - 6 about road and general safety and cyber safety.

Albury, like much of NSW, has seen an increase in online predators and cyber bullying and the police message was one of caution and what to do to keep safe online.

Tanya is currently considering a suitable date to return to the school to conduct further student sessions around keeping cyber safe and safe on the roads. We can’t be too careful when dealing with the additional stresses and responsibilities the online world has created for parents/carers.

their money. So far we have raised $1100. A reminder that we would appreciate it if all money could be returned by tomorrow. We hope to raise $3000 – all money raised will go towards purchasing resources to be used in the school.

There will be a prize awarded to the student who raises the most amount of money and the class who raises the most amount of money will be given a special lunch.

The Big Write Off Thank you to families who have sat down with their child and talked about the writing stimulus provided in the last newsletter. Students wrote a list of instructions you would use to teach a dog how to waterski.

Students who wrote the most number of words this time included: Year 6 – Praveen Pathmanathan Year 5 – Jacob Horn and Wade Bain-Sellick Year 3 – Tamanah Mobourne Year 2 – Isaiah Whybrow and Allen Rivera Year 1 – Keaton Beechey, Douglas Baxter, Brock Loney Kindergarten – Amyera Fitzgerald and Annabelle Horn The best set of instructions was written by: Kindergarten – Elizabeth Fitzgerald Year 1 – Hunter Deas and Eli Chalmers Year 2 – Gemma Quinn Year 4 – Allirah Whybrow Year 6 – Meg Kirkwood

Our next writing topic will be a recount based upon

the best day or worst day of their life.

Once again we will be looking at the most number of words spelt correctly and who wrote the best recount. We would ask that, as a family, you take a few moments to discuss the topic, in order to give your child a few ideas about what they may include in their recount.

Rewards Day Our end of term Rewards Day will be held tomorrow. Well done to all of the students who have displayed respect, responsibility and care in the last 5 weeks of the term – we are very proud of you. We have 92% of our students attending the Who Dun It game - a brilliant way to end the term!

A friendly reminder During Term 4 we encourage our safety message of no hat, play in the shade. Students without broad brimmed hats are directed to play under the COLA, in the library or in the computer room. You can purchase

hats from the uniform pool or the front office if needed. The uniform pool is open on a Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8.45am.

All students playing PSSA on a Friday morning must wear a broad brimmed hat.

End of term I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and safe holiday. We look forward to seeing you back next term.

Next term school returns for staff and students on Monday 10th October.

Term 4 promises to be a very productive term with many activities already planned. The 5-6 students have their trip to Canberra to look forward to. Our 3-6 students will have the opportunity to represent AWPS in the summer PSSA competition. Transition activities will be held for our kindergarten students starting school next year and our Year 6 students will participate in high school transition activities. Swim School, Village Fair, class parties and the Year 6 graduation dinner and disco will take us towards the end of the school term. So plenty to see and do in Term 4.

Save the date: The 2017 Kindergarten parent/carer information

day will be held on Friday 21st October in the

library, commencing at 9:00am.
