Bombardier obtains Same Type Rating for both C Series jetliners

bombardier Commercial Aircraft released that Transport Canada and the European Aviatio Safety Agency (EASA) have awarded the CS100 and CS300 airliners with the Same Type Ratin (STR) which provides operators with signifi ant cost-saving opportunities. “The Same Type Rating is a refl ction of the high commonality between the CS100 and CS300 aircraft. This is great news for customers that operate both air-craft as they will benefit from the cost-e ecti e, minimal training required to transition pilots from one model to the other. The commonality also extends to spare parts, maintenance pro-cedures and ground handling, which altogether represent signifi ant financial advantages to customers,” said Todd Young, Vice President and General Manager, Customer Services, bom-bardier Commercial Aircraft. The CS100 and CS300 aircraft feature over 99% parts common-ality. The models are not stretched or shrunken versions of each other, but were designed side by side with only the center section being long-er on the larger CS300 aircraft. The aircraft are therefore both specifi ally optimi ed for their size, without any compromise on weight, per-formance or economics.

TAG Aviation ompletes fi st 120-month inspection on Global Exp ess aircra

TAG Aviation Maintenance Services Europe has completed its fi st 120-month inspection on a Global Express aircraft. The 120-month inspection project – which was completed in August and has been carried out at TAG Farnborough’s Maintenance Services Centre – included a full strip and repaint of the aircra ’s livery, a Swi broadband upgrade and a cabin refurbishment which was un-dertaken at TAG’s Maintenance Services Centre in Geneva. As the largest maintenance event to be undertaken on a Global Express, the 120-month inspection ensures a thorough examination of the aircraft airframe – the cabin interior must be completely removed for access to facilitate the inspec-tion which makes it an ideal time to perform any avionics upgrades, such as SATCOM, that requires such access. The 120-month inspection also included a major overhaul of the landing gear and the aircra ’s in-cabin connectivity has received an upgrade to Swi broadband with a new Satcom Direct Router – which includes Global VT, Aero XR and Sky Ticket – all supplied by Satcom Direct.

Dutch private equity firm Antea invests in APOC Aviatio

Dutch private equity firm Antea has acquired a 30% stake in Aircraft Part-Out Company Europe b.V. (APOC Aviation). APOC Aviation is located in Delft the Netherlands. It is engaged in the sup-ply of spare parts for the aircraft industry. The company purchases aircraft that have been taken out-of-service, outsources the disassembly and then sells the parts. It specializes in both the Airbus A320 and boeing 737. APOC Aviation was founded in 2014 and has since established itself as a known player in the aircraft part-out market. For the com-ing years, it expects to realize further substantia growth. The underlying trend that facilitates this growth is the increase in air traffi particularly in Asia, where both Airbus and boeing have a signi -cant order book. In addition the second-hand mar-ket in aircraft parts continues to mature. With the rise of low cost airlines, competitio has increased, making the airlines more conscious of cost reduc-tion. As the di erence in price between a new and a used spare part is considerable, virtually all air-lines currently make use of used parts for mainte-nance or repairs. APOC Aviation will benefit greatly from this continuing upward trend. Remaining shareholders are the founder/director of APOC Aviation (55%) and a group of informal investors (15%). The investment in APOC Aviation entails the sixth investment for fund VII of Antea since the start of the fund in 2015.

IAI introduces CWS - fi st military system that prevents mid-air collisions with civilian aircra

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is pioneering military flig t safety with the introduction of its Collision Warning System (CWS), an innovati e, lifesaving solution designed to warn combat pilots in situations when potential collision with com-mercial and civilian aircraft is imminent. CWS was developed by IAI’s MALAM Division and will be on display at the I/ITSEC exhibition in Orlando, FL, November 28 - December 2, 2016. Extending the collision-warning functions of IAI’s EHUD range-independent air-combat maneuvering instrumen-tation (ACMI), the CWS system can now monitor non-military pla orms and warn of the proxim-ity and risk of collision with commercial aircraft Monitoring is performed through integration of IFF (Identi ation Friend/Foe) and ADS-b (Automati Dependent Surveillance – broadcast). Increasing congestion in civil air space poses a growing chal-lenge to flig t safety in general, and specifi ally for military operations in proximity to, or within civilian airspace. The CWS provides a complete air situational picture with warnings visible only to the military pilot – no indications are provided to civil-ian aircraft. Warnings are provided in three ways – a voice warning, graphical indication on a tablet panel, and symbols presented on existing cockpit displays (MPD/MFD). The CWS is embedded in ex-isting or new EHUD/ RAIDS/FRP systems, or carried as a stand-alone pod, which requires only a single interface unit, and thus requires only minimal inte-gration i to the aircraft

Since 2000, China Southern Airlines has been dominating the domestic Chinese market and has recently been expanding internationally to continu fuelling its accelerated growth. Consistent branding, power-ful visual content and seamless team collaboratio have been instrumental in expanding China South-ern Airlines’ dominant market share.

AVTECH, a Swedish IT company specializing in the aviation industry, is the developer of the Aventus NowCast system, a product that enables airlines to save on fuel thanks to algorithms that provide more precise wind data for airplanes’ navigationa computers. Aventus NowCast, currently distrib-uted in co-operation with the British Met Offi , has been available on the markets since 2000 and is used by several major airlines, including South-west Airlines, Lufthansa Cargo and easyJet. Despite digital advancements, the possibility of distributing weather data in real time to cockpits has been, until now, limited by regulations and am-

biguous standards. AVTECH’s next step in develop-ment, Aventus SIGMA, is partly based on the tech-nology of Aventus NowCast and can, as a result, be added to the NowCast service as an add-on mod-ule. SIGMA combines the airplane’s accessible data with real-time data from the Met Offi . SIGMA assists pilots in making be er decisions concern-ing which flig t path to take and the ideal altitude which enables them to avoid problematic weather phenomena such as turbulence, ice build-up, thun-derstorms and thunderclouds. Cockpit routin s are simplified when complex data is presented in a more concrete form. In addition to a general flig t weather forecast, SIGMA takes into account the ac-tual flig t path and flying tim of the plane. Today, planes that are delayed or are required to select an alternati e flig t path for some reason are forced to use historical weather data, while SIGMA con-tinuously provides real-time weather data for the actual route.

Flydocs has been awarded a long-term contract for its advanced aviation data and records man-agement pla orm by Wizz Air, a leading low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe. Wizz Air al-ready uses the planning and maintenance soft are AMOS and, in entering into this long-term arrange-ment with FLYdocs, will become the fi st airline to benefit from the advanced interfaces between the two systems. Earlier this year FLYdocs and AMOS started work to deliver the fi st and full digital air-
