A study done by the Harvard School of Public Health concluded that preventable absenteeism due to poor air quality cost a company $480 USD per worker per year in lost productivity. In 2012, Malaysian businesses were losing up to a whopping RM9-billion yearly as a result of workers taking sick leave, according to the Malaysian Employers' Federation. MEF executive director Shamsuddin Bardan said based on a recent survey, on average, each employee took about 9 days per year of medical leave, or up to four per cent of working time. This could equate to as much as RM1500 per worker per year in lost productivity alone not accounting for medical pay-outs!
