ALFA ROMEOGIULIETTA SPRINT VELOCE ALLEGGERITA
1956 ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA SPRINT VELOCE ALLEGGERITA
1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Alleggerita (light weight)
Chassis AR 1493E*02159* in color blu (Mille Miglia eligible)
One of only 58 worldwide known surviving examples of the light weight
(alleggerita) version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta series.
With the introduction of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint in 1954 the second
success era of the Alfa Romeo brand started. The new model started its triumph
and made sure that Bertone was equally successful by designing and
producing the Giulietta. Alfa Romeo had not enough production resurces as
the production plant in Arese was destroyed after worls war two. The demand
was gigantic and soon a lot of private racers discovered the motor sport
potential of the Giulietta.
Alfa Romeo realized Giulietta Sprint Veloce’s opportunity and produced
already in the first year a light weight version with the internal designation 750 E
(inofficially „Allegerita“ – Italian for “light weight”) and a 1300ccm engine with
90 HP. The combination of reduced weight with a tuned engine made the
Giulietta a car with excellent handling and competitive performance in the
1.300ccm class.
On 20.04.1956 the first Sprint Veloce Alleggerita was produced and
dominated Italy‘s motor racing scene since end of April 1956 at hill
climbs, races and rallies.
• 1st overall @ Coupe des Alpes in class 1300ccm
• 1st in class @ Tour de France
• 1st in class Tour de Corse
• Successes @ Mille Miglia and Targa Florio
The weight was reduced from 850 kg to 780 kg by a multitude of
measures:
• The engine- and trunk lids were produced in aluminium
• Both doors were produced inaluminium, as well as the bumpers
• All windows were manufactures out of plastic
• The interior was stripped to the minimum. No rear seats and ligh
front seats.
• Oil sump was made out of magnesium
This configuration is the DNA of the GTA and GTAm models produced
at Autodelta 10 years later.

The story of #02159
Built on June 30st 1956 with chassis # AR1493E*02159* in blu color with
engine #1315*30114, gearbox # E476 and differential # E96. All
components are matching! (Bertone’s production # 77 101)
This Giulietta was delivered new to Genova on July 17th and was
registered by Massimo Antonio de Sotgin at July 26th. In the following
three years the car changed ownership three times.
The careful use with no racing activities is the reason that this Giulietta
survived in best order. Many other SVA were destroyed or damaged in
motor racing.
In 1969 02159 was sold to its new owner in Pisa/Italy, where she stayed
until the early 1980ies. Then the famous Alfa Romeo historian, archivist
and book author Maurizio Tabucchi owned the car for a couple of
years.

The story of #02159
1992 Maurizio Tabucchi sold the car to an enthusiast from Bologna but
took personal care of the first and so fare the only restauration in 02159’s
live! Today it is hard to believe, that the car has been restored 25 years
ago! The quality of body, interior and technic is stunning with an
sympatic touch of patina.
After finishing the restauration this Giulietta received the ASI gold medal
third degree (best possible restauration with recovery of the original
condition with correct material, cloth and technical elements)
1998 the car was sold to Switzerland to a client of the well known Alfa-
specialist Oliver Vetter. Vetter traded the car to its present owner in
Germany in 2006 where the car is taken care of until today.
