How it started:Growing up in the music business I had attended NAMM shows since I was 13. By the time I was 25 I thought maybe I could go some place different than California for business. I stumbled upon this group called Retail Print Music Dealers Association, and that year’s convention was going to be in Vancouver, Canada. Somehow I convinced my father that our store with a tiny little print department needed to send someone, and he let me go.

Why it worked:I came back with SO many great ideas and ways we could make our store better. Fourteen years later, I am still attending and set my calendar around it now.

Words of wisdom:Size doesn’t matter. Small to large print departments, send someone or come to RPMDA and see what I am talking about. This is for owners, managers, and print buyers. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed, and you will make some friends along the way.
