Grenada

Tranquility, beauty, aroma, friendly people - all attributes of the tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, known as the ™Isle of Spice™, and now proud home of Olympic World 400m Champion Mr. Kirani James.

The largest of the three Islands, Grenada, was first known to be inhabited by the Arawak and Carib Indians prior to 1498. Then along came the Spanish, English and French who fought each other at different times until 1783. The English then took control of the islands which remained in their hands until 1974 when the people of Grenada gained their independence from Britain under the leadership of Sir Eric Gary.

Situated 12.7 degrees north of the equator, and towards the southern end of the Caribbean chain of islands, this 120 square mile paradise is of volcanic origin and boasts mountain ranges, a rain forest, waterfalls, and lakes; in addition to what has been described globally as the “most picturesque harbor in the Caribbean”.

Georgian architecture still characterizes the capital town of St. George which forms a perfect backdrop to this horseshoe-shaped harbor.

The island is incredibily blessed with a myriad of beaches fea-turing both white and black sand, with the main beach names “grand Anse Beach” is known to be one of the best in the world. Sometimes described as God’s Little Acre, this little island gets its nicknames from the abudance of locally grown spices - such as cin-namon, ginger, cocoa, bananas and, most of all, the nutmeg, of which Grenada produces a third of the world’s supply.

Grenada has an average climate temperature in the low to mid 80s and population of around 98,000 with 75% of African descent. The remaining 25% is made up of Europeans, Asians, Middle Eastern and East Indians who will speak the country’s official language, English.

Trinidad

Trinidad is the larger and more populous of the two major islands and numerous land-forms which makes up the Republic of Trini-dad & Tobago.

Trinidad is popular for its savory food options. The food is diverse, cultural and traditional in many cases. It is influenced by many different styles, such as Indian, Spanish, African and more. Over time the food has been adapted and changed to what is known as Trinidadian food today. The most popular Trinida-dian dishes include Pelau (rice, vegetables and sometimes meat cooked together), Doubles (an East Indian delicacy), Roti, Cal-laloo, Bake and Shark also Crab and dumplings.

It is an industrial island with a diversified economy, based to a large extent on natural gas, industry and agriculture. It is one of the leading gas-based export centres in the world, being the leading exporter of ammonia and methanol and among the top five exporters of liquefied natural gas. This has allowed Trinidad to capitalise on the biggest mineral reserves within its territories. It is an oil-rich country and stable economically.

Major landforms include the hills of the Northern, Cen-tral and Southern Ranges (Dinah ranges), the Caroni, Nariva and Oropouche Swamps, and the Caroni and Naparima Plains. Major river sustems include the Caroni, North and South Oropouche and Ortoire Rivers. There are many other natural landforms such as beaches and waterfalls. Tobago

Tobago is the smallest island of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The island lies outisde the hurricane belt.

Tobago’s economy is tightly linked with Trinidad and is based on liquefied natural gas (LNG), petrochemicals, and steel. The principal economic forces specific to Tobago are tourism and government spend-ing. Conventional beach and water-sports tourism is largely in the south-west around the airport and the coastal strip; however, ecotouris-mis growing in significance, and much of it focuses on the large area of protected forest in the centre and north of the main island and on Little Tobago, a small island off the north-east tip of the main island.

Tourism is concentrated in the south-west of the island, around Crown Point, Store Bay, Pigeon Point and Buccoo Reef. This area has large expanses of sand and is dominated by resor-type devel-opments. Tobago has many idyllic beaches along its coastline, especial-ly those as Castara, Bloody Bay, and Englishman’s Bay. Tobago is linded to the world through the Arthur Napoleon Raymond International Airport (formerly Crown Point Airport) and Scarborough harbour. Domestic flights connect Tobago with Trinidad and International flights connect with the Caribbean and Europe. There is also a daily fast ferry service between Port of Spain and Scarborough. Beach in West coast of Tobago.

The island of tobago has been considered the island that inspired the story of Robinson Crusou. However, the book is probably based on some of the experiences of Alexander Selkirk, who was ma-rooned in the Pacific’s Juan Fernandez Islands. Adding to the confusion for modern claims of fame, this island was the filming location for the Walt Disney movie The Swiss Family Robinson. Tobago is the site of the famous “Mystery Tombstone”.
