Activity 1: Sorting by Color

Two$op&ons$for$prin&ng$are$included.$$Print$the$colored$cards,$cut,$and$laminate.$$Or$use$the$ink;saver$op&on$to$print$on$colored$paper,$cut,$and$laminate$(photo$below$is$from$the$January$Pack).$

Sort$by$color$on$felt$mats,$or$in$rows/columns.$$Use$the$color$labels$to$teach$color$words.$$If$you$have$access$to$the$Montessori$Color$Box$2,$the$children$can$look$for$the$matching$color$tablets.$If$not,$you$can$pick$up$some$paint$swatches$and$use$those$for$matching.$

Extension:$Make$a$liLle$emergent$reader$booklet$by$coloring$and$cuMng$out$the$pictures.$

Activity 2: Sorting by Size

Laminate$and$cut$out$the$cards.$$Sort$into$three$columns$by$size.$$You$may$want$to$use$felt$mats$instead$of$columns.$$$$Two$sets$of$labels$are$provided:$Large;Medium;Small,$$Big;Medium;LiLle$

Activity 3: Oral Language Development

The Question Game

Laminate$and$cut$the$cards.$$Distribute$the$pictures$among$a$small$group$of$children.$$Name$each$picture$and$talk$about$it$together.$$Draw$a$ques&on$card$and$let$the$children$use$the$clues$to$iden&fy$the$correct$picture.$

Activity 4: Oral Language Development

Following Directions

This$is$fun$to$play$with$a$small$group$of$children.$$This$is$a$great$game$to$help$children$with$comprehension$and$following$a$sequence$of$steps.$$This$set$has$three$levels$of$difficulty;$ranging$from$1;step$direc&ons$to$3;step$direc&ons.$$

Activity 5: Visual Matching - Shadows

This$is$a$simple$matching$ac&vity.$$I$like$to$use$these$to$emphasize$the$layout$procedure,$focusing$on$leW$to$right$and$top$to$boLom$formaMng.$$Separate$the$colored$cards$from$the$shadow$cards.$It$is$fun$to$look$at$the$shadow$cards$first$and$see$if$you$can$figure$out$what$it$is$without$looking$at$the$colored$picture!$$Place$the$shadow$cards$in$a$line$along$the$top$of$a$rug$or$table,$star&ng$from$the$leW.$$Pick$up$a$random$colored$card$and$place$below$the$first$colored$card.$$Does$it$match?$If$yes,$leave$it$there.$$If$not,$slide$it$to$the$right,$below$the$next$card.$$Does$it$match?$$Con&nue$on.$$The$process$of$lining$up$the$cards$and$sliding$from$leW$to$right$helps$prepare$the$child$for$later$reading$ac&vi&es.$

Activity 6: Categories

Laminate$and$cut$apart$the$photograph$cards.$Sort$onto$the$correct$mats.$

Activity 7: Where are the Leaves? A Prepositions Game

Print,$laminate$and$cut.$$Line$up$the$picture$cards$along$the$boLom$of$the$rug$or$table,$or$distribute$among$a$group$of$students.$$Read$one$of$the$labels.$$Child$finds$the$correct$picture$card$to$go$with$the$label.$$Put$picture$and$label$at$the$top$of$the$rug$or$table.$$$

Activity 8: Cutting

Print$on$paper$in$color$or$grayscale,$as$desired.$$$

1.  CuMng$strips:$$prepare$by$cuMng$into$strips.$$Show$child$how$to$cut$on$the$dashed$lines.$$This$is$a$beginning$cuMng$ac&vity$and$is$good$for$students$who$are$just$learning$how$to$handle$scissors.$$The$child$will$be$mo&vated$to$avoid$cuMng$up$the$picture$and$will$aLempt$to$stay$on$the$line.$$The$lines$are$short$and$do$not$require$mul&ple$cuts.$$(Tip:$an$introductory$cuMng$exercise$is$to$provide$strips$of$colored$construc&on$paper$with$no$lines$for$the$child$to$cut)$

2.  Fall$Tracks:$$4$different$types$of$“tracks”$are$provided:$straight$lines,$curvy$lines,$zigzags,$and$blocks.$$Each$type$has$two$difficulty$levels.$$These$can$easily$be$printed$in$greyscale$on$colored$paper$to$save$on$ink.$

Activity 9: 0-10 Number Cards

These$0;10$number$cards$can$be$used$for$a$variety$of$coun&ng$ac&vi&es.$If$you$plan$to$use$them$like$the$Montessori$Numbers$and$Counters$ac&vity,$you$may$want$to$try$the$following$ideas$for$counters:$$

•$silk$leaves$•$paper$leaves$

Activity 10: Number Clip Cards

Laminate$and$cut$the$cards.$$Use$clothespins$to$clip$the$correct$number.$You$may$want$to$make$this$a$write;and;wipe$ac&vity$and$have$the$child$circle$the$correct$number$with$a$dry;erase$or$washable$marker.$$The$numbers$printed$on$each$card$are$consecu&ve$numbers$for$the$most$part$to$provide$a$liLle$bit$of$challenge.$$Place$a$color$coding$dot$on$the$back,$just$behind$the$correct$number,$for$self$checking.$$Alterna&vely,$adjust$your$printer$seMngs$and$print$out$a$miniature$copy$of$this$set$to$make$control$cards.$$Circle$the$correct$number$on$your$control$cards$before$lamina&ng.$

Touch your nose. Say an animal. Rub your cheek.

Turn around and say

your favorite food.

Wave to a friend and

Wiggle your fingers
