Do you want to somehow document and record stories of loved ones before their

memories get the best of them? Do you want to make sure your sons and daughters and/or grandchildren remember some things about the times gone by?

There is a member of St. Philip that would like to assist you in capturing those memories in a more permanent way.

If you are interested in having someone record your memoires or someone else’s memories, please speak to Rev. Garis about this wonderful gift a church member is offering.

Note of the Week from Pam Cochrane……

The Chancel Choir began rehearsals for the fall and Christmas season on Wednesday, July 27th and sang in worship last Sunday, August 7th. Yes it is back to the wonderful opportunity to deliver God’s message to God’s people! What a privilege it is for the choir and me to be chosen for this glorious task! And I thank God for leading me here to St. Philip where I have served for nine years! Yes, it’s hard for me to believe it’s been that long! Wow! The Youth Chime Choir will begin rehearsals on Sunday, August 28th at 4:00 p.m. in the choir room. The Hand Bell Choir will begin Sunday, September 11th at 9:30 in the Sanctuary. Please come and join us if you are interested in playing with either of these groups this season. The choir’s play in worship and also bring the “good news” of the Gospel to us on Sunday morning! This Sunday the Chancel Choir will be singing “The Apple Tree” Arranged by Lee Scott. Some of the words are:

The tree of life my soul hath seen, Laden with fruit and always green: The trees of nature fruitless be compared with Christ, the apple tree. His beauty doth all things excel: By faith I know, but ne’er can tell the glory which I now can see in Jesus Christ, the apple tree.

See you in church on Sunday. Joyfully Singing in Christ, Pam Cochrane

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS JULY 2016

At a Called Meeting held on July 17, 2016, to discuss the 2016 budget and the upcoming congregational meeting in August, some items of business were approved. They include the following actions: Using “Moving Forward with the Spirit” as the program theme for

2017. Allowing the Administration Committee to change the August

publication date and to allow the committee to decide future publication dates without bringing it to Session.

A letter of transfer for Pat Collins to Granbury, First.

At the Congregational Meeting the Session of the church reported on the financial condition of the church but also announced a congregational wide visioning and direction process would take place at St. Philip this fall. An Action Team has been working on getting an objective third party to come to St. Philip and not only help with establishing a new vision and direction but also to evaluate our program and ministries.

The Session and the staff are hopeful that this congregational wide process will help St. Philip push forward in the direction that God is calling the church to move.

If you have questions regarding this please talk to one of the Action Team members: Susan Riley, Lee Larkin, Bill Parmelee, Chuck Lucas, Betsy Smith, Bitsie Welch, Jim Houston or Rev. Greg Garis.

A Note from Joy Wallace

I want to thank all of my church family, for all your prayers & cards during my time of the

loss of Johnny.

~Joy

~ A Special Thank You from a Financial Aid Recipient ~ Dear SPPC,

I would like to thank each and every one of you for assisting my family and I with our rent. We went to another agency, and no one could help us, but God stepped in right on time. When we called St. Philip there was a polite person on the end of the phone, and we had an appointment the next day. I would like to say thank you and God Bless each of you for our blessing.

God Bless, Stephania
