Our market-leading CoolLED range of constant current drivers provide a high performance solution from 10W to 200W. With non-dim, Analogue 1-10V, 0-10V, DALI, Phase or switchable variants available.
We have combined our extensive knowledge and expertise in both lighting and engineering to provide the highest quality Custom LED Design and Placement service to some of the largest lighting manufacturers in the world.
Our highly efficient modular LEDeng light engines have a CRI of 80 or 90 and options of 3000k, 3500k, 4000k and 5000k colour temperature.
They are compatible with DALI and 1-10V dimming, with simple push wire connection, and multiple fixing points.
LED Solutions at Butler House
Butler House is a 1960’s built, high-rise housing scheme that’s been adapted as sheltered housing for older people by Bristol City Council. It’s a friendly place with a good atmosphere where the tenants look out for one another. Like many social housing schemes however, and especially those not purpose-built, running costs are a constant source of concern to the social landlords. Lighting is one area where there is enormous potential for savings so the 60 original 1962 38W fittings in the corridors and stairways were an obvious target for conversion to new energy-saving LED technologies. The Senior Electrical Engineer at Bristol City Council, Anthony Mulcahy, was looking for a simple substitution of the lights that would offer a dimming function when the corridors and staircase were unoccupied and a cheerful but low-glare welcoming illumination for residents returning home.

• New non-occupancy dimming function, enabled by high efficiency Harvard LED drivers and light engines, saves energy.
The SolutionThe chosen LED solution, incorporating fittings manufactured by Fern-Howard, powered by LED drivers and light engines from Harvard Engineering, has met all the project objectives and is saving Bristol Council a total of £5,300 per annum. The elegant new luminaires provide a well-modulated efficient light.The drivers and light engines enable each of the 60 lights of 1600 lumens, to dim to 10% when the corridor is unoccupied. Harvard’s CL1000D driver, chosen from the high efficiency CoolLED range is used in conjunction with a custom designed light engine. The energy-saving benefits of using LEDs are augmented by the newly enabled dimming function and, in addition, the luminaires’ lifespan of 50,000 hours means that there will be no need to replace lamps for seven years and low maintenance costs, saving around £3,000 every year. Bristol Council’s energy savings of 20,000 KWh per annum result in annual cost savings of £2,300.

Like every local authority in the UK, the Borough of Blaenau Gwent in South Wales is faced with the constant challenge of balancing a tightening budget with increasing demands on expenditure and soaring energy prices. Street lighting typically accounts for as much as 30%-50% of a council’s power consumption and Blaenau Gwent wanted to identify a way of reducing the massive burden of powering its own 13,000 street lamps.

The SolutionThe light produced by Harvard’s Retro LED gear trays has surpassed all expectations and is delivering an extra 16% energy saving over the proposed PLL gear trays, leading Blaenau Gwent to install them throughout. Installation has proved quick and problem-free, with electricians taking just three minutes to completely retrofit one lantern, including removal of the old gear. Retro LED uses a lantern-specific gear trays holding a rectangular light engine which is powered through an integrated Harvard driver. It produces an even white light with a colour temperature of 4,000K, compared to the 1,800K typically offered by SOX lamps, and a colour rendering index of 80.The low capital cost of this solution is significantly less than the cost of a new LED luminaire and offers councils an energy efficient ‘lights on’ alternative to saving energy by switching street lights off for part of the night.
A switch to more energy efficient lighting technologies, using a retrofit solution that would fit in the existing SOX fittings to minimise the capital cost of an upgrade, was decided on and, having identified interest-free funding opportunities offered by Salix for public sector energy efficiency projects, the council explored the available options.

All drivers in our power factor corrected CoolLED range are open and short-circuit protected, have a self-resetting over temperature trip and have a fully isolated, SELV output*. CoolLED at Microsoft
These desktop areas have now been replaced with 1,800 different types of working spaces ranging from sofas to small clusters of tables, releasing 30% of the office space for more creative use.Choosing the right lighting and control equipment was fundamental to the success of the project. Flexibility, good glare control, a discreet profile for the building’s low ceilings and energy efficiency were provided by LED fittings used in conjunction with drivers from Harvard Engineering’s market-leading CoolLED range. The result has been so successful that Microsoft’s Stockholm office was named as ‘Sweden’s Most Stylish Office 2013’ at a glittering ceremony in the city’s Oscars Theatre.
The SolutionRebel Light who equip the Scandinavian lighting movement worked with Ronnie Eckervig from Exengo, the building’s low ceilings led lighting designer to choose sleek and discreet recessed downlights throughout. The EDL62ZP from Lucifer Lighting Company offers up to 42˚ manual tilt, good glare control and is dimmable. The lights are driven by 33W CoolLED DALI drivers. They offer intelligent, programmable digital dimming and an energy efficient lighting solution that makes a powerful contribution to this award winning design.
New, flexible ways of working, using laptops and tablets, require a radical rethink of how office spaces should be designed and lit. Before commissioning a full refurbishment of their offices in Kista, Northwest Stockholm, Microsoft carried out a survey into exactly how they were being used. It was found that three quarters of the 600 desks, which occupied about 60% of the premises, were not regularly occupied. Interior designer Wivian Eidsaunet, working for Murman Architects, took this on board in her award-winning design.

DALI Dimming – EN62386-207
DALI drivers provide full DALI dimming support from 100% to 1 % (depending on driver capability) and have the ability to turn completely off. Customers have the ability to control individual LED luminaires or specified groups. DALI also provides fault reporting on up to 64 devices of which 63 can be drivers with one controller
1-10V/0-10V Analogue Dimming – EN60292 ANNEX E
Analogue 0-10V and 1-10V drivers provide linear dimming from a conventional 0-10V or 1-10V dimmer. Analogue drivers measure voltage at the control input to manage the intensity of the light - at 10V lights are on 100%, 5V lights are on 50%, etc. Analogue drivers can also be used for fixed output where customers need to reduce the output current to meet their needs; this is achieved by placing a resistor across the 1-10 input.
Phase-Cut Mains Dimming
Phase Mains Dimmable drivers offer a retrofit LED solution and work by using a standard dimmer switch, such as a Phase-Cut Triac dimmer (leading edge), IGBT dimmer (trailing edge). Harvard Phase drivers provide noise free, unrivalled smooth leading and trailing edge dimming.
SmartNight
With programmable and pre-programmed drivers, lighting can be dimmed down to pre-set levels providing the customer with a reduction in power usage. The pre-programmed drivers can be dimmed to 50% or 75% for 6, 8 or 10 hours, and the programmable versions can be programmed with up to 8 unique dimming levels, down to 5% (depending on driver capability) from a PC and SmartNight programmer.
LeafNut
Through our LeafNut Platform which uses WiMAC protocol, it is possible to remotely manage and control outdoor lighting. Luminaries can be dimmed down or brought back up to full brightness at the touch of a button, or turned on or off. Time profiles and schedules can be set.
EyeNut
Through our EyeNut Platform using ZigBee protocol, luminaries can be controlled, managed and dimmed wirelessly. Dimming is from 1% up to 100% (depending on driver capability) and can be controlled remotely. Devices such as PIR or wireless wall switches can be used. Wireless wall switches can be battery powered to simplify the installation. Scheduling and time profiles can be set.

The products within our LED Solutions brand are available in a variety of dimming platforms, including DALI, 1-10V/0-10V Analogue, and Phase, providing the ability to dim lights as well as for additional energy savings. Our LED Solutions can also be paired with our innovative LeafNut and EyeNut control and management systems for indoor and
outdoor lighting, as well as our SmartNight dimming platform for street lighting.
Alongside the ability to dim, our LED Solutions have a number of features which make them perfect for a variety of applications, including the ability to switch output current, resistive programming, auxiliary fan
output of 5V or 12V, and Negative Temperature Co-efficient (NTC), which helps to prevent our solutions from overheating.

Switchable
These allow users to be able to have one driver that can switch between two or more pre-determined current outputs, for use with similar light fittings with different power needs.
Remote Switchable
Remote Switchable drivers allow users to provide the light engine with a lower current when a room is vacant, increasing the current to maximum whenever a motion detector detects a presence.
Resistive Programming
This involves placing a resistor between two terminal blocks, to set a lower output current as required by the application.
Auxiliary Fan Output
Auxiliary Fan output is available factory set to 5V or 12V output and can provide 1 or 2 watts of power depending on model.
Hot Plug
This is when an output over-current occurs, if the LED is turned on or plugged into an energized driver. Most of our drivers have built in protection to limit the over current and protect LEDs.
Negative Temperature Co-efficient (NTC)
Helping to prevent light engines from overheating this thermal protection component measures the temperature of the light engine, to detect overheating of its LEDs. If the light engine reaches a high temperature that could damage the LEDs, the NTC adjusts the current to a lower level until a more acceptable temperature is reached. If the light engine continues to overheat it will cut the current therefore switching off the light engine and protecting the LED’s until it cools down*.

Compliance StandardsUL – Underwriters Laboratories
UL is an independent US based organisation, which develops product safety standards for the North American market. Harvard products, which are 120V, 277V or Universal input, are designed to meet the relevant UL safety standards. Many of these products have been tested by UL and carry the “UL Recognized“ mark. Some North American products have also been assess to Canadian (CSA) Standards and are marked cRUus.

ENEC – European Norms Electrical Certification
The ENEC mark complements the CE mark and signifies that products have been tested for compliance with the relevant European product safety and performance standards.
Testing takes place in independent ENEC Approved Testing Laboratories. There are 24 Laboratories in whole of Europe with the Licence to grant the ENEC mark.
Many of our LED Drivers supplied into the European market carry the ENEC mark, which is widely recognized for lighting products in Europe.
