New Delhi, Coir Geotextiles are largely used on the soft soil for construction of village roads have been found to perform very well as reinforcement, filter, drainage and separation materials in comparison to the conventionally used materials like synthetics, cement, lime, etc. The National Rural Roads Development Agency (NRRDA), Government of India has approved Central Coir Research Institute (CCRI) as a nodal institute for application of Coir Geotextiles in construction of rural roads. Indian Roads Congress (IRC), New Delhi has also given the accreditation for the use of Coir Geotextiles in the roads.

Research studies have shown that Coir Geotextiles are useful in rural road construction, but they have not been used in a big way till now. Potential of a market for Coir Geotextiles based on rural road construction is there.

New Delhi: Chhattisgarh has a lot to offer in terms of resources such as electricity and steel but is also a creator of the state’s Padwoman, Dhaneshwar Sahu.

Dhaneshwariis a fine example of how taboo and stigma surrounding a natural phenomenon like menstruation affects women in India.

Hailing from a village in Chhattisgarh, she and other women from her village had no idea about sanitary napkins until recently.

The initiative was taken forward by her with the support extended by the government of India under the Deendayal Antayodaya Yojana.

She said, “They (yojna workers) set up the groups of ten people who were then trained by the government workers, now we have a settled workshop with 10 workers and

packing machine, get the raw material at a cheaper cost from Maharashtra and manufacture sanitary napkins”.

I come from a background where women are hardly allowed to go out and work, but I realized how significant menstrual hygiene is and that’s how we started producing pads”, she added.

On being asked about how they take care of hygiene while making the

pads, she said, “We make sure to wash our hands with sanitizers like Detol before touching the cotton or other material, and wear gloves and mask inside the workshop.”

It is her 5th year at IITF and she is contended with the response and motivation she is getting.

The sanitary napkins made by Dhaneshwari will cost you from Rs.15 to Rs. 80 and quality is surely uncompromised.

The camp executive Ms. Richa who is currently pursuing M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work from Ram

Manohar Lohiya Hospital in Delhi told us the initiative has been taken up by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

They are dealing with people who are reaching out to them for help or are concerned for someone who shows symptoms of suffering with mental health issues.

“Mental illness is stigmatized

and we are here to refer them to appropriate services and also de-stigmatize the issue. Everyone is welcomed to seek for help at our Mental illness helpdesk “, added Ms. Richa.

You can walk for an impromptu counselling support, share your problems and get briefed about help-

centers where problems like these can be dealt with. In today’s world where there are so many people with mental health issues like depression, stress, anxiety disorder or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), it is something people should be aware about and talk about without any hesitation.

Rajni and Rama from Odisha have been attending the India International Trade Fair since last ten years. It is a legacy that they have been following as IITF has always been a very good platform for them to sell their hand-made decor made of coconut husk.

Rajni said, “We were approached by

a group in Odisha led by government officials where we were approached by the Coir board members to work in association with them to manufacture these coconut husk masterpieces that can be used as home decor.

“Apart from this, we were also given online marketing and promotional training in order to mobilize and promote being our products on a

much larger scale”, she added. Rama and Rajni feel it is a great

initiative taken by the government towards needy women of Odisha. They are travelling all over India to be a part of various trade-fairs and exhibitions. They immensely appreciate the efforts of the government to provide such a space where they can maximize the reach

of their products and build business relations with a large number of people.

The Focus country Republic of Korea

18 November 2019 Forever Newswww.forevernews.in

New Delhi, Republic of Korea also known as South Korea is a country in East Asia. It occupies the southern portion of the Korean peninsula. The country is bordered by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) to the north, the East Sea (Sea of Japan) to the east, the East China Sea to the south, and the Yellow Sea to the west; to the southeast it is separated from the Japanese island of Tsushima by the Korea Strait. South Korea makes up about 45 percent of the peninsula’s land area. The capital is Seoul (Soul).

The South Korean economy has grown remarkably since the early 1960s. In that time, South Korea transformed itself from a poor, agrarian society to one of the world’s most highly industrialized nations. This growth was driven primarily by the development of export-oriented industries and the abundance of highly skilled and educated labour, fostered by strong government support. Government and business leaders together fashioned a strategy of targeting specific industries for development, and beginning in 1962 this strategy was implemented in a series of economic development plans. The first targeted industries were textiles and light manufacturing, followed in the 1970s by such heavy industries as iron and steel and chemicals. Still later, the focus shifted to such high-technology industries as automobiles, electronics, and information technology.

The government exercised strong controls on industrial development, giving most support to the large-scale projects of the emerging giant corporate conglomerates called chaebol. As a result, small and medium-size industries that were privately managed became increasingly difficult to finance, and many of these became, in essence, dependent subcontractors of the chaebol.

Korea joined the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 1996 and took a step closer to becoming an economically advanced country. In the early 21st century, Korea’s per capita gross national income far exceeded those of most of its neighbours, other than Japan and Taiwan. These notable accomplishments, however, have at times been overshadowed by economic difficulties caused by both external and domestic factors.

The country generally has maintained a positive balance in annual trade. The major imports

are machinery, mineral fuels, manufactured goods, and such crude materials as textile fibres and metal ores and scrap. Principal exports include machinery, electronics, textiles, transportation equipment (notably, automobiles), and clothing and footwear. South Korea’s principal trading partners are the United States, Japan, and Middle Eastern, East Asian, and Southeast Asian countries.

As India has its own Act East policy South Korea has its New Southern policy which has an aim to strengthening the economic and strategic relations with south East Asia including India and Australia. South Korean economy is heavily export dependent and its top two trade partners are China and the US. By strengthening ties with India and other Asean countries, South Korea plans to reduce its over-dependence on its two traditional trade allies. India being a huge consumer market is projected to grow more than twice of South Korea in the coming years the companies like Samsung and Hyundai already have a significant presence adds to the comfort. Indirectly endorsing the idea of Indo-Pacific nations and aligning with India and Asean countries also helps reduce its China-related risks.
