Speaker: Dr.Anil Kumar Vuppula, IIIT Hyderabad.

Topic: Speech Processing

Description:

How speech is produced and processed by humans is a fascinating and important scientific question.

There are also numerous applications of speech processing methods, such as in robotics and artificial

intelligence, in analysis of people’s behavior when they are performing other social or cognitive

tasks, and in detection and assessment of clinical disorders. In this class students will learn some of

the basic principles underlying human speech perception and production. They will also learn

methods for processing recordings of speech and vocalization as well as for producing artificial

speech and vocalizations. This class will have a large hands-on component, in order to provide

students with a toolbox of speech processing skills useful for research or work in industry. In

addition to performing short exercises, each student will develop and execute a more in-depth term

project. Through this project students will delve more deeply into the theory and application of

specific speech processing methods, and gain practice in presenting their ideas and work.
